Wynn is back with the skins

As a person, I've a heck of a lot of respect for Renaldo Wynn.

Always gave 100% in everything he did his first go around, a great character guy. Not the best athlete out there, but a true "core Redskin" as the great man would say.

But all sentiment aside, I don't get the wisdom of this, outside of it being rock bottom price depth for someone that at least is comfortable in the surroundings here.

That's the only positive I've got, but welcome back to the B&G regardless Renaldo.

Hail.

I think everybody here has lost touch with reality, we don’t have the money to sign top FA DE, and still pay for our draft picks. Wynn and Daniels are good additions to the defense on 1st and 2nd down and bring in Wilson or Jackson as speed rushers on passing situations. This, of course doesn’t fix all of our problems but it should get us through this year.

Our true problem as many people have posted is OL, we have to get younger and bigger on the OL. This year draft class has great value at OT, OG, and C if, we can find a trade partner and get a late 1st and a 2nd we could definitely do a lot for are O-line. There will be value at LB in the 3rd round ie. Larry English, Marcus Freeman, and Tyrone McKenzie and some mocks have Clay Matthews dropping to the 3rd round.

As far as FA’s go I would like to see them bring in Elton Brown who adds size and depth and would likely be a good value considering AZ hasn’t resigned him. There is not of youth or value in the current FA market. And let’s face it we will not fix all of our problems in the draft, we don’t have the picks. So if we can get through this year without trading away our future picks I think we will be ok.

three winnable games lost because the D couldn't stop a late score. When the O is average or below the D must step up to get the win. Our's wasn't on that level.
I respectfully disagree. Your stats vs my stats: 9 games where the Skins didn't score 20 points? 3 NFC East games lost that if we had scored 20 points we would have won 2 (and won the NFC East?) and gone 12-4. We had half a team last year. Our O wasn't average. It was terrible. Our D wasn't average. It was in the top 4.

Yes the D still needed help. They got help by signing Haynesworth and Hall. Yes they still need a LB and a pass rush. But you don't win football games unless you score points. Name the offseason acquisitions that will improve our offense and get us more than 20 points a game? Dockery is not it. One OG is not going to help enough. No OL = no offense. No offense = more losing games.

The FO has neglected both the OLine and Dline far too long. But when you look at it as O vs D, who needs more help today and who has already received more help? I think we've put enough eggs in the D basket. Time for the O basket to get a little attention.

True, the O needed help last year and got rookies that will take time to pan out, if ever. However, after the results of last season, it's still apparent the O needs more help. The D was still leaps and bounds ahead of the O. Which needs more improvement? Which got more help in the offseason already?

I am most curious. I know its really not flashy to sign an older guy, one who isn't a top 10 NFL draft pick. But seriously, we just lost 3 defensive ends. That means we have 3 spots to fill. How is this in any way a bad thing just because of his age? How does this prevent the team from drafting a DE(remember, 1 + 1 is STILL less than 3, basic math people)? How do you know how he will play this year?

Do you have 3 DE's ready?

Some people...

With this signing, if we also re-sign Daniels then I'd be ok with going all OL and LB with any high draft picks and ignoring DE for one more year, simply because OL and LB are much larger needs. I think a rotation at DE with Carter, Daniels, Wynn, and Wilson (am I missing anyone?) would be more than serviceable now that we have Haynesworth in the middle.

Renaldo Wynn is a top notch individual, and will certainly take on the leadership role again for this defense. I think rotating at end is where he's best at right now- keep Wynn fresh and doing what he does best- stop the run. Chris Wilson is going to be the situational pass-rushing specialist, so he'll be at left end most of the time in passing situations. I also have a feeling that Blache could line up Haynesworth at end a couple times to throw the other team off balance, which would leave Griffin and probably Montgomery at the tackle spots.

It may not look like we have depth there, but we have some, and we have plenty of other options with versatile players.

I like the fact that RW's back and some of you guys are being much too hard on him IMO. The guy can still play and is a force against the run. That's his MO and always has been. Our run defense is going to be stellar and that's a good thing. Wynns' a quality player and person.

IMO, we will, the writing's on the wall. You don't spend $100 million on a DT and not get him the defensive ends he needs/wants. :evilg:

You think so?

I think the writing is on the wall that we aren't going DE. Now, that may just be writing on the wall saying that we aren't, but we really are, because if people knew what we were doing we wouldn't be so mysterious and then it's just silly to put any writing on the wall whatsoever.

Know what I mean?

K. Good. Neither do I.

I hope the poor guy doesn't get back on ES and stumble across this thread.:silly:

He's been here before so I'm sure he is aware of how many Madden fans post.

Quite obviously we are looking to fill our roster before the draft which in turn makes it much easier to go the BPA route - something this franchise has been in dire need of. Maybe the lesson has been learnt?

After the draft we will see who performs etc and make our 53 man roster accordingly.

This, my friends, is a good move. Value signing of a known commodity who may or may not make the roster. If he doesn't it won't be for a lack of effort and he's a good influence in the locker room be it a few months or a season or two.

A true starter calibre RT is much harder to find in FA than a run stopping DE who can play inside to complement Wilson etc. Conversly with the 13th pick it could well be easier to draft a true starter calibre RT than to find..... see where this is going?

Good move, welcome back Mr Wynn.

I like the move as well. He's not going to get tons and tons of numbers, but he'll plug a hole. I'm okay with that for now. He'll do a good job plugging it too.

Welcome back, Mr. Wynn. Hated seeing you in that other uniform.

 Nope...

You may be right, I'm basing my thoughts off nothing but a gut feeling and wishful thinking anyway. I think... I hope... the front office finally got sick of hearing about and dealing with our defensive line being the main problem with our defense.

I'm hoping for a DE/OLB hybrid type (Orakpo would be best, but he won't be there) or an OT at this point. OT may/should be top priority.

I wish Jason Smith would slip a bit, though :(

That guy is by far the best prospect, in my opinion. But as long as we address one of those two things, I'd be happy.

Yeah, I agree about Jason Smith but he'll be looong gone by #13. I think once Orakpo is gone (and you're right - it'll be early) any DE worth taking at #13 would probably be a hybrid DE/LB that can cover fairly well and put his hand down on 3rd downs and get after the QB.

I'd be happy with a OLB too, don't get me wrong. I'm just dying for a young nasty kid that along with Haynesworth and co. can make anyone named Manning/Romo sits to pee/McNabb's life a living hell for several years to come. :evilg:
