Special K
Instead of starting a new thread, I'll just bump this old one and ask about a couple different places b/c I got some great advice from ES for my last trip. Anyway, if you have been to Rome and/or Sicily, what were your favorite activities? Are there any tours you liked the best or places I can't miss? Also, any recommendations on hotels to stay? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
The Sisko
About the only thing I know about Hungary is that they supposedly have great paprika. Make sure to bring some home. Thank your lucky stars. Not only are you engaged to a wrestler but you get to tour E. Europe as well. Enjoy!!

The 12th Commandment
http://www.foodandwine.com/restaurants/list/hungary Check it. I subscribe to F&W and while it's a little snobbish, it's less so than the other food/recipe/travel mags.
DeanCollins
I'm going to Budapest this summer with my friend, who is an importer of hemp products. Prague is relatively close by, as is Austria if you can make it a 4 or 5 day trip you could catch a train to either or both. That's what I plan to do. Have a good time. mjah
I fell in love with a Hungarian girl who, to this day, is still one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life. Can't comment on the men, though. You'll have to report back on that. Hungary is also an awesome jumping-off point to so many other places. Maybe not Ukraine or Serbia so much, but Austria is right there (Salzburg, Innsbruck, etc.) You don't have to go too far.
Special K
Back to the thread. Keeast, aren't you going to budapest soon, and now you're going to Hungary the end of Feb.?, Are you a Nomad? Yes, I prefer the nomadic life wandering the extraordinarily long distance between the 2 Hungarian cities, lol. Actually, I'm just going over there to sabatoge any plans my guy has for scoping out the country's plethora of hot chicks. j/k BTW, thanks to everyone who's lent their advice so far. techboy
We haven't been to Hungary (yet), but my recommendation, as for any trip to Europe, is to pick up the appropriate Rick Steves guide. His information is top notch, and practical (where to find clean restrooms, how to skip lines, etc.). The House of Terror museum in Budapest sounds very interesting. Perhaps Eger? Thanos
I was stationed there over a decade ago,so much has probably changed. If smoking offends you avoid the jazz clubs in Budapest. The people tend to be friendly and its comparalbe to most mid-sized European cities. Riggo-toni
Only been to Budapest - try and make your way there if you can. Coolest things there are the parliament building, and the World's fair castle behind Heroes Square. My wife spent a summer abroad in Hungary...I can beg her for more info if you need it. SkinsHokieFan
I enjoyed Hungary. Dirt cheap. There really wasn't much in terms of entertainment back in 2002 in Budapest, but if you do get to Budapest you have to go to the bath houses

Zguy28
Nope. But I hit a Hungarian guy on a bicycle with my car one time. Does that count? It goes without saying that I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express the night before.
Darth Tater
Aside from the subject Mick mentioned which probably doesn't interest you, my main advice is to not get drink the tea. Maybe it was just where I went, but I thought the food was very salty. If you got time, there's a cool church/monastery dug right into the rock. Are you going to be primarily in Buda or Pest? Funny thing was the California license plate I saw.
Metskins
I think the guy that invented the Rubik's Cube was from Hungary.
