Male Gift Giving Guide

MissU28

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I have gotten half my Christmas shopping done, but there are some males on my list that I'm going to need some help with. If you have any suggestions that fall within the prices ranges I give, please share! I don't like giving gift cards, except to my brother, but I'd rather give him something to open.

1- Brother: He's 28, into golf, surfing, the Chargers, snowboarding, 4 wheeling, dirtbike riding, etc. Very much a "California" boy. I'm thinking of getting him a gift card to a nearby golf course...will hint around to see which courses he likes when I see him on Thanksgiving. Looking to spend around $50 for him.

2- Cousins (want to spend under $20 for each- I don't normally get my cousins gifts, but I'd like to have something for them this year):

*Cousin 1/his fiance (would like to get them a joint gift):age 25, lives in New Hampshire

*Is very funny, has a new black pug, drives an Acura, very easygoing, very intelligent, enjoys reading, especially Stephen King (but he's probably read all of his books)

*Cousin 2: Brother of cousin 1, I think he's 20 or 21. Very into computers, technology, Adult Swim, humor. Very easygoing and a really nice guy. Hard to pigeonhole him.

3- Dad (want to spend $50 or under)

*He's 60, not in the best of health, and does not have very good eyesight. Huge Star Trek fan (wouldn't call him a trekkie, though). He doesn't have a computer. He loves flowers, so I will probably send him some flowers, but need something else. He recently bought a lot of model cars to put together. Retired CIA (used to be a case officer).

4- Uncle (want to spend under $20)-Have never personally bought him a present before, but want to this year. Father of cousins 1 and 2, very funny, into technology, Patriots fan (they live in New Hampshire), sarcastic, active...

And I still have a few women on my list...

5- Cousin 3- Daughter of uncle mentioned above. 16 years old, very liberal, into the environment, into peace, into causes. Original. Great sense of humor. Runs cross country and she may play soccer. Loves Jon Stewart.

I also need a suggestion for my grandma. She is the typical grandma. She and my grandpa are also very into loons but have enough loon stuff in their house. Lives in Maine.

Thanks in advance. Post other gift ideas as well!

Good idea for a thread MissU. I normally just buy my dad, brother, and brother-in-law Redskins stuff. This year will be no different as I am buying everyone tickets to the Skins/Niners game.

However, my fiance is impossible to buy for. He doesn't like football, but he has no choice, he has to go to the game with us. So that's that.

But I want to get him something else as well, you know, something he actually likes. He's a very eclectic person. He wrestles full-time, he travels internationally for tournaments so I was thinking of maybe getting him something that is nice to have on long plane rides, does MMA (refuses to wear mma apparel however), loves playing the guitar, is really into painting (normally acrylic but likes other forms too), loves drawing too, really likes astronomy, and is a total minimalist (doesn't like ANYTHING he thinks is remotely overpriced)...so, um, any ideas? I pull my hair out trying to think of something nice and original for him for every special occasion so I thought maybe if any of you guys know of some cool presents that you have heard of or have received in any of those areas, let me know, hopefully it can give me some ideas... Pretty please?

* And NO dreamingwolf, he will not be getting any porn videos or hooker gift certificates this Christmas! :silly:

You'll have to let me know where you are tailgating, bc I'll be there too!

And for those of you saying gift cards, if you read my post, I don't WANT to buy gift cards!

I've done a gift certificate for my brother for a golf course before and he loved it (well, once his wife allowed him to leave the house, lol). I gave him the certificate with some nice golf balls so he got something to open as well.

I know you don't want to give gift certificates, but my fiance and I often get gift certificates for restaurants and we love it. We don't have a lot of money to go out to dinner otherwise, so if we have a little gift certificate we are more inclined to go out to share a dinner...

*Cousin 2: Brother of cousin 1, I think he's 20 or 21. Very into computers, technology, Adult Swim, humor. Very easygoing and a really nice guy. Hard to pigeonhole him.

If you are wanting to spend 20 or under, maybe find out what tv shows or whatever he likes and buy that DVD. That might be a bit over $20, but there are likely to be a lot of good sales this holiday season, particularly after Thanksgiving. Might I suggest my most favorite show EVER..."It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." Most guys I know who are his age and like to laugh enjoy this show...in fact, it was guys his age who introduced me to Sunny a few years back and got me hooked.

Does your dad like history? My dad's a WWII buff and I have gotten him some History Channel DVDs, or books about the war.

I have no idea. Maybe something Pats related.

Is there a best of Jon Stewart DVD or something? Maybe that. Or...some incense? lol

I also need a suggestion for my grandma. She is the typical grandma. She and my grandpa are also very into loons but have enough loon stuff in their house. Lives in Maine.

A nice smelling candle maybe?

Yeah, that's my main beef with him. He doesn't like watching football. And he REALLY doesn't like watching football with my family because he said if the Redskins lose I get too pissed off and it gets too out of control with the rest of my family in the house. He hates futbol even more, so that's good at least.

So....like, you have any gift suggestions?????

For him, I suggest the following:

a gas powered dildo(gas mainly to insult the eco friendly, but not liking football he probably would enjoy the power it would deliver to him)

a finely crafted vase

and a kitten

make sure all are abusively secured with a ribbon, I say that mainly for the kitten

Get him some Charger golf balls with the Golf course gift card. I was given some Redskin golf balls once and it was as great gift as long as I didn't shank them into the woods.

I find gift certificates to restaurants, sporting events and sporting goods stores go over big.

This year everyone in the imediate family is going to receive a gift certificate to local steak and seafood establishment. This will allow for another family gathering later in the year. Recently there have been complaints of not seeing each other as much as usual. How can you go wrong with steak, seafood and family?

With Norv as head coach might I suggest one of the golf towels. It could second for a crying towel. ;)

Go the way of themed t-shirts. For example, there are some cool "green" shirts that have a message on front, made in the USA and are 100% organic cotton. Quite comfortable actually. It should be easy to find shirts that fit what they enjoy doing.

For Grandma, get her a nice picture of you and your siblings framed or take a nice picture with her at thanksgiving, then get that framed.

TWA, A wallet is typically something a guy has to pick out for himself. I can't tell you how many over the years, I have given away.

This thread makes me realize, I spend way too much money on my family for the holidays, and girls are cheap sometimes.

K, we gotta talk about the man that doesn't like football. Does he have some of those shoes ?

Depending on your budget, a pair of noise-canceling headphones could be great. You can get some good deals as they bring out new versions and sell last year's model for 30%.

Check Amazon for deals.

Good idea, I think I might do that. I also found this: p4572317t130.jpg Which would you rather have, the club cover or the balls? I could probably swing for both, (no pun intended), but I think the football thing is cool :)

Yeah, she is. I know she has the America book and she got the latest Colbert book for Christmas last year. I like giving books, and I was looking at that Daily Show and philosophy book, but after reading reviews on Amazon, I decided against it. I'll peruse this website and see if I can find something. Thanks.

cousin 2: If he's 21, I'm sure various alcoholic beverages would be appreciated. otherwise, you said he's a computer person. Would I be right in assuming he's a video-gamer? if so, what system(s) does he have and do you know what kind of games he's into?

True, but I am flying to Maine from California and do not want to carry anything heavy, especially alcohol. I can barely keep my suitcase under 50lbs as it is! I could stop at a liqour store in New Hampshire on my way up since there is no sales tax (I'm flying into Boston), and I may pick up some mini bottles for stocking stuffers. I think he was born in '87, so I guess that does make him 21.

I don't know if he has any consoles. I think he plays computer games, but I'm not sure which. I could ask him, but I want him to be surprised :) I'll look into it, though.

I actually got her one for her birthday this year. It was perfect for her, so your idea is great. I bought her one from Steve and Barry's last week, a very simple shirt that says peace on the front and now on the back. It's not going to be her whole present, but I do love that idea. If I hadn't already bought her 2 tshirts I would be doing that :)

For Grandma, get her a nice picture of you and your siblings framed or take a nice picture with her at thanksgiving, then get that framed.

I don't see Grandma for Thanksgiving- she is in Maine. I might go the same way with her as I did my mom- www.bagettes.com . I send in two digital pictures and they create a small makeup bag. You know what, I think I will do this. I'm taking your idea and making it my own:)
