Mufumonk
Another fantastic flick that flew completely under the radar is A Simple Plan starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thorton, and Bridget Fonda. It's easily Sam Raimi's best film.

kuraitengai
"Duel"An early Spielberg movie (made for TV no less) about a guy traveling across the desert in his car, and the terrifying cat and mouse game an anonymous truck driver (who you never see) plays with him the whole way. (This one shows up in the "free Movies" section of the Comcast On-Demand listing quite often.) havent seen it, but i read the short story a couple months ago. written by richard mattheson, who wrote the novels for what dreams may come and i am legend.not sure of the time frame for the movie, but i think the story was only a matter of a few hours. kuraitengai
i liked the red violin. its a pretty good movie that apparently not too many people i know have heard of. and im not sure if it classifies as 'under the radar', but i just watched august rush last night and it was really good. d0ublestr0ker0ll
Probably because its not a movie. It has all the qualities of a movie and then some. Sure, the episodes are 1 hour long, but there are quite a few episodes, and they all start off right where the other left off. To me, it's like one huge movie. Riggo-toni
I'll go with Fandango. Stars Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson on a road trip across Texas right after college graduation. Give it a try. Dude, I can't believe someone beat me to this! Stop getting inside my head...

BigMike619
Jacob's Ladder with Tim Robbins used to freak me out big time. Its about a Vietnam Vet who comes home and thinks he is going crazy because of all the weird stuff going on in his life.... pretty spooky and I highly recommend it.. Chachie
Another under the radar movie I liked a lot was the thriller Nigh****ch.Link Probably the best suggestion yet because most of the others mentioned are not truly "under the radar." Nigh****ch is almost "Hitch****ian." McGregor and Brolin are really good in it and Nolte is sickeningly awesome. Great choice. Blood Simple and Swimming with Sharks are other good entries. True Romance is not one that I'd consider under the radar. Look how many people in this thread have seen it. Great film, not a "hidden gem" though. Mark The Homer
I'm going to kick it off with True Romance. For fans of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, this is a must see. Tarantino wrote the screenplay, ...The supporting cast is amazing and is a large part of what makes this movie so good: Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt, Smauel L. Jackson, James Gandolfini, Bronson Pinchot (Balki!), Tom Sizemore, Michael Rappaport and Chris Penn. True Romance - one of my faves, of course. Beyond classic. Tarantino screenplay writing at its best. I love Gary Oldman in this - he's one of my favorite actors - definitely under the radar. Check him here: In case you haven't seen it - Here in the scene everybody talks about - this ex-cop is being tortured by mob guys until he gives up the whereabouts of his son, Clarence. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Pm_LbJTvTWA I like this scene too, with Brad Pitt:
Oldskool
Bubba Ho-Tep. I'm a huge Bruce Campbell fan and this one has everything you want, including Campbell playing the King himself Not mention that this was Ozzie Davis' last movie. Larry
Might not qualify for "under the radar", but: Buckaroo Bonzai: Across the Eighth Dimension. Really well done movie. And another one that likely doesn't qualify: Once Upon a Time In The West. Sergio Leone's (who, among others, directed the three Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" (so called despite the fact that Eastwood's characters had names in all three films) movies) first film Made in the USA. Jason Robards. Charles Bronson. And Henry Fonda as the villain.
Mark The Homer
I'm gonna recommend a movie called The Day Of The Jackal which I bet nobody has seen. I don't mean the 1997 version -- this is the original -- done in 1973. The movie takes place in Europe, mostly in France. A critic writes: In 1973 Fred Zinnemann's screenplay, "The Day of the Jackal", was a movie so expertly crafted that you marveled at its incredible target, Charles De Gaulle. It was an unforgettable piece of movie business. http://www.casenet.com/michael/jackal.htm See the trailer here and read the comments. Everybody loves this flick. Fan since a Fetus
One of my favorites is "The Amateurs" starring Jeff Bridges. He is a complete moron who talks his small town into making amateur porn. There is not a lot of swearing or nudity in it, but they come up with some funny friggin phrases to describe sexual acts. My wife and I watched it this past weekend and laughed all the way through. The humor may not be for everyone though.
Fan since a Fetus
I wanted to add anther one. "The Contract" with John Cusak and Morgan Freeman. It's about a guy and his son trying to survive in the woods while hitmen are after them.
dg28daman
True Romance is awsome... one of my favorite "underrated movies" is The Rules of Attraction. Its based on a book by the same author of American Psycho.

Roborob132
I am a huge fan off offbeat movies BAD TASTE (Peter jacksons first movie, took him 7 years to make with just his friends) Re-animator - how can you not love and decapitated head trying to eat out a chick? Chopping Mall - robocop goes psycho on some kids staying the night in a mall. Death race 2000 - Stallone, Carradine in a race accros the county and you get points for hitting folks. Classic Tromeo and juliette - Any lloyd Kaufman -Troma pictures production is classic The Warriors - Walter Hills classic tale of a gang trying to get back to Coney Island. I can go on and on....
