Jumbo
Well, I am a big fan of Mythbusters if that helps shed any light on the issue... I really haven't seen that more than a few minutes of that one as far as I remember, but I've seena few Penn & Tellers  .
LiveStrongSkins
There are alot of insecure people on this website. Let's see, let's get on a football message board and make religion threads for no reason... You do realize that these threads make you look weak right? I happen to have religious beliefs, but have friends who dont believe in anything at all. No biggie, I have my beliefs and they have theirs. Theres no need to race to a message board to get pats on the back.
rincewind
So being born in Berwick, PA in 1976 made me agnostic? Damn, I'm glad/lucky my parents had sex 9 months earlier in Cunningham, PA.
DjTj
I don't know if this supports the OPP or not, but my mom recently told me that I was the reason my family started going to church when I was a kid ... When they first came to America, my parents weren't particularly religious, but they were invited to a church and they started going weekly as a way to get integrated with the community. They then moved halfway across the country, and after I was born, they didn't really go to church anymore. But in first grade, my best friend was a chubby black kid named Alfred, and although I don't remember this at all, he apparently told me about Jesus, so I went home and told my mom that I wanted to go to church and learn about Jesus. ...so, like the great parents that they are, they signed me up for Sunday school, and my family started going to church every Sunday. We did that for a few years, until we moved again, about an hour away. We still kept going back, but I think it became kind of a pain (and remember, I had no idea that this whole church thing was my idea in the first place), so eventually we just stopped going, and I didn't really miss it. There were more important things to worry about in life, like football ... and girls. I guess church was just kind of a fad for me, like the soccer team, karate lessons, and playing the clarinet. I don't know where that puts my religious beliefs. I guess I'm agnostic, but I do still have an affinity for Christianity ... Actually, when my mom told me this story a couple years ago, I thought that maybe I should start actually going to church, since it was actually something I chose to do as a 5-year-old ... but I never really got around to it ... I guess I would call myself a lazy Christian, and perhaps that really was just a matter of luck.
techboy
I really haven't seen that more than a few minutes of that one as far as I remember, but I've seena few Penn & Tellers  . I'm a fan of Penn and Teller too, despite the fact that they're stinkin' atheists... Actually, I have to give them credit. When they did their show on the Bible, they didn't get some clueless wacko to represent the Christian viewpoint (and make their own case look better by comparison). Dr. Paul Meier is a highly qualified expert. I was impressed by their integrity in that respect, even if I didn't agree with most of their arguments... Coach Williams
I disagree.... Outside influence can ONLY effect your decisions in life if you allow them too..... Mom was a fence riding Xtian, and step dad was an agnostic who now claims to be scientologist...... I put 2 years of my life into studying world religion and I came to the conclusion that Christ rose from the dead...... Ironically enough, I believe in Evolution, dinosaurs, aliens & of course that non-xtians can make it to "heaven." There's about 50 new threads to be created on those above statements so I'll ask NOT to derail the thread based off my opinion..... While I could be wrong on dinos and evolution and whatnot, one thing is for certain....Biblically speaking, there's a BIG difference between *heaven* and being in heaven within the presense of God. Some people's idea of heaven would be a quite room.....if this is what they deserve, I suppose this is still an upgrade to hell.

Mickalino
No one chooses where they are going to be born, it is all by chance. By chance, I had Catholic parents. By chance therefore, I was Catholic. I could have very well been born in the Middle East and therefore I would be a Muslim. Same as China, I would have been told there is no god. India, I could have been sikh, Hindu, or Muslim. New York, I could have been a Jew (ok kinda a joke) but you get the idea. You're beliefs are just that, chance, and what you have convinced yourself is true and right. It doesn't make them right. It is sheer luck and the power of the human mind. Your argument can't be taken seriously. There's countless Muslims in America. There's born-again Christians and Jews in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. (the most DANGEROUS places for Christians or Jews to live) Etc, etc, etc Geography doesn't make a person. Their choices do. And for the high number of people who DO succumb to whatever religious surroundings they have, it actually proves how much we NEED God, because it proves how truly weak and frail the human mind is, to allow itself to be conformed so easily to it's geography. So, for someone to go against the grain, and become a Christian, in say, Iran, it's nothing short of supernatural, to defy the odds, and really proves there is a God And for all of you who believe that accepting Jesus is the only way into heaven, what about everyone who lived before he walked the earth? Read the Old Testament and find out.

Zguy28
Read the Old Testament and find out.Actually, he should read the New Testament. Paul talks about these subjects in Acts and Romans. Also Hebrews deals with the "what about people before Jesus" question as well in chapter 11. Head
People always forget that Jesus was a follower of John the Baptist. So, what I wonder is this.....if it was what Jesus believed in, isn't anyone following Jesus just Baptists by default?

So, what I wonder is this.....if it was what Jesus believed in, isn't anyone following Jesus just Baptists by default? Well, okay... since no one else will answer this question, I will. You've got it backwards. According to the New Testament (which is the only source we have regarding the relationship of Jesus to John the Baptist, though Josephus does discuss John in another context), it was John the Baptist that was a follower of Jesus. John the Baptist said to Jesus "it is I who need to be baptized by you."If you are speaking chronologically, then yes, John's ministry came first. But he was just a messenger to prepare the world for Jesus: "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire." ` Matt 3:11-12 I think he was the original fire and brimstone preacher. Maybe that's why Baptists are like that?

ntotoro
Buddhism is really the best one. No one declares war in the name of inner peace. The quest for Buddhism is to get rid of all desire. Isn't that a desire, though? Also, how does one know when nirvana is reached, since the Buddha never said what it was like before he died? Nevermind how Easterners resent Buddhism being practiced in the West, seeing as people try to get in a few years this same ultimately unobtainable goal they spend a lifetime trying to obtain.
