Dawn of the Deadskins

We're dead. dead. dead. In the ground, dried up dead.

But what if..................

PLAYOFF SCENARIOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should go without saying that we have to win out. Leaving us at 8-8 with a 3-3 division record and a 6-6 conference mark with head to head tie breakers against Carolina and New Orleans and a mortal fear of Atlanta, and Minnesota.

Good News:

Detroit, Arizona, and Tampa Bay are worse than we are!

Looking at the schedule shows us that....

San Francisco with games @SEA and @DEN will get to at least nine losses, so they're out.

Green Bay will most probablly lose next week at SF so we don't have to worry about them.

St.Louis will have to lose to us which will put them at a head-to-head disadvantage. They also play Chicago next week so put them down for at least nine losses.

If we manage to tie the Eagles at 8-8 we would win the tie breaker assuming they lose to either the Cowboys or Giants. How is this possible? In "Common games" (IND, JAX, HOU, TEN, ATL, CAR, NO, & TB) we would have a mark of 4-4, while the Eagles are already at 2-5 even before they play Atlanta in Week 17.

Buzzsaw:

Minnesota Vikings.(5-7) They're four game run reads as follows @DET, NYJ, @GB, and STL. Easy right, but not so fast. The Jets are good and don't forget that the Vikes will be at Lambeau for Favre's last game as a Packer. For the sake of this post lets put the Vikes at 7-9. If they finish 8-8 or better we're toast.

Atlanta Falcons.(6-6) They're remaing games, @TB, DAL, CAR, and @PHI. A conservative estimate would say they finish at 8-8. Not good.

New York Giants.(6-6) Because of that win in Philly, the only way we can beat them is for them to finish 7-9.

Scenarios:

Let's take out the Bears, Cowboys, and Seahawks and just look at the Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Giants and Eagles, the good news is that for the most part they somehow play eachother.

Saints: @DAL, WAS, @NYG, CAR

Falcons: @TB, DAL, CAR, @PHI

Panthers: NYG, PIT, @ATL, @NO

Giants: @CAR, PHI, NO, @WAS

Eagles: @WAS, @NYG, @DAL, ATL

Scenario#1: "The Saints blow it"

Saints: L L L L (When this happens I want some DAP)

Falcons: W L L W

Panthers: L W W W

Giants: W W W L

Eagles: L L L L

NFC South: Carolina Panthers 9-7 (4-2)

Wild Card 1: New York Giants 9-7 (4-2)

Wild Card 2: Washington Redskins 8-8 (3-3) (6-6)

Out: New Orleans Saints 8-8 (4-2)

Out: Atlanta Falcons 8-8 (3-3)

Out: Philadelphia Eagles 6-10 (2-4)

Scenario#2: "Probable"

Saints: L L L W

Falcons: W L L W

Panthers: L W W L

Giants: W W W L

Eagles: L L L L

NFC South: New Orleans Saints 9-7 (5-1)

Wild Card 1: New York Giants 9-7 (4-2)

Wild Card 2: Washington Redskins 8-8 (3-3) (6-6)

Out: Carolina Panthers 8-8 (4-2)

Out: Atlanta Falcons 8-8 (3-3)

Out: Philadelphia Eagles 6-10 (2-4)

Scenario#3: "The Giants go 7-9"

Saints: L L W W

Falcons: W L W W

Panthers: W W L L

Giants: L W L L

Eagles: L L L L

NFC South: New Orleans Saints 10-6

Wild Card 1: Atlanta Falcons 9-7

Wild Card 2: Washington Redskins 8-8 (3-3) (6-6)

Out: Carolina Panthers 8-8

Out: New York Giants 7-9

Out: Philadelphia Eagles 6-10

Regardless of these specific W-L scenarios here are some rules to remember:

We cannot tie with Atlanta, Minnesota, or New York.

We own/will own tiebreakers over Philly, Carolina, and New Orleans.

1.Obviously if two or more teams finish 9-7 and neither one wins the NFC South, we're done.

2.Minnesota cannot win 8 games unless....

a.Giants 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Saints win South, Panthers finish second at 8-8.

b.Giants 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Panthers win South, Saints finish second at 8-8.

c.Giants 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Falcons win South, second place 8-8.

3.Atlanta cannot win 8 games unless....

a.Vikings 7-9, Falcons finish third in the South behind an 8-8 Carolina. For this to happen Carolina HAS to win the @ATL game to have a better division record in case of a tie.

b.Giants 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Vikings 7-9, Panthers and or Saints 8-8.

c.Giants or Vikings 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Falcons win South, second place 8-8.

4.Giants cannot win 8 games unless....

a.Vikings 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Saints win South, Panthers finish second at 8-8.

b.Vikings 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Panthers win South, Saints finish second at 8-8.

c.Vikings 7-9, Eagles 8-8, Falcons win South, second place 8-8.

How do we make the playoffs over the Falcons with equal records?

Don't you realize that there will always be a homer who will try and figure out all possibilities until it is completely mathmatically impossible. As long as there is a chance even a very miniscule chance like described above there will be people who believe. Deep down in my heart I pray that somehow they find a way in the playoffs (even if we don't deserve it) but I realize that it is most likely not going to happen. This doeden't mean I am abandoning the Redskins it just means that this team has not shown they are playing to get to the playoffs.

We'll lose Vs. Philly on Sunday and you'll feel stupid for doing this.

i'm not so sure he'll feel stupid.. in fact if the redskins lose on sunday i bet there would still be a mathmatical chance to make the playoffs and i bet there are at least 5 threads explaining those chances..

How do we make the playoffs over the Falcons with equal records?

because Carolina would have tiebreaker over Atlanta. According to the NFL Tiebreaker procedures, division ties are broken first. So, if Atlanta/Carolina/and us are all 8-8, Carolina & Atlanta would be broken first. Should Carolina hold that advantage, the playoff spot would be between Carolina & Washington, which the Redskins would win.

I love this place. I just want the last game against the Giants to mean something since we're thinking of going......

I see one flaw in your playoff senario. We will not have the tiebraker against the Eagles, even if we win out and they go 2 and 2. This is because both teams will be 8 and 8, the Eagles will have a division record of 3 and 3 (same as the Skins), but they will have one more conference win then the Skins. So the Eagles have to finish 1 and 3 in order for the Skins to have a shot.

Great job on the analysis, Cuz...sorry I missed you this weekend.

It's cool, I'm still out of town anyway. Will be until January. How sick are you feeling right now? I honestly can't shake this last game. 14-0 after one quarter at home to the Falcons and we still can't find a way to win? I am like a crazy person at this point, just constantly going over the game in my mind, and we're 4-8 and really, really bad. If I ever develop a mental illness there is no doubt that this team will be the reason. Who other than our Redskins, can stop a team at midfield on 4th and inches in the SECOND QUARTER with a 14 point lead and manage to absolutely tank it from that point out? The funny thing is that after we went 3 and out I felt that twinge of panic that only us Skins fans feel. We KNOW the team will tighten up and they do just that. Sometimes I wish I was a stupid hick Cowboys fan that gets hammered on Bud Light an hour before kickoff and just breezes throught this type of game because he knows his team, up two touchdowns at home, will end up winning it 35-10.

What do you think about Campbell? I know he's only a couple of games in but he absolutely killed us yesterday, I know we're not supposed to say it but I just did. Crucial turnover. Nach says that the QB he most reminds him of is Tony Banks. Ouch.
