Sucks about Pettis, but I don't get why KZ is getting the title shot over Lamas when Lamas is the #2 contender according to their rankings. KZ was suppose to fight Lamas @162 July 6 in Vegas, so it's not like KZ was more available than Lamas.

I bet Dana says Lamas turned the fight down if questioned about it, even if Lamas didn't turn it down.

I really wanted to see KZ live @162, that was a main card fight, wonder if Lamas gets a new opponent & stays on the main card or the bout gets scrapped. Munoz v Boetsch or Edson Barboza's fight could move up. Chris Leben won't move to the main card, I think he's lucky not to be in one of the Facebook fights.

Anybody catch the World Series of Fighting on NBC Sports Network?

Josh Burkman choked out Jon Fitch in less than a minute. It was the submission equivalent of a guy walking away after nailing a killshot.

How the mighty have fallen

Mazzagatti had no clue Fitch was out until Burkman stepped away from him. That could have ended very badly if Burkman didn't let up. Great job ref.

That's a hell of a finish for Burkman, Mazzagatti really is lucky that he let that choke go and didn't hold it in. I can't believe Mazzagatti continues to be employed at this point.

Does anyone really believe Chris Weidman is going to win this fight tomorrow night? All this talk about skill-set and confidence feels like a smoke screen from the UFC. 9-0 does not beat The Spider. No way.

I dont, & I'm at the MGM right now waiting for poker. Most people you ask around here don't buy into the Weidman hype machine.

I asked this before, can't find the previous answer: what sportsbooks in Vegas will take prop bets on the fight? I can only find money line, and with Silva @ -250, I want to pick a KO finish in a round to get better odds.

I would feel better about his chances if he wasn't coming off a long injury lay-off. I think Weidman is the heir apparent, but I don't think he beats Anderson right now.

The issue I have is that Weidman hasn't really beaten top competition and is merely "the next guy in line" for the title shot.

Sort of the same situation GSP ran into a couple years ago when there really wasn't top guys at 170 for him to face so we were sold a bill of goods on guys like Fitch, Kos, Thiago Alves....

Look, Weidman is good, and it is MMA so it's not like he has no chance, and I understand when doing a matchup type breakdown of the fight it appears Weidman's strengths seem to be Silva's weaknesses but the problem with going by that analysis is that Weidman's skills haven't been put to the test by top competition yet.  Of course you can look like a killer against gatekeepers and middle of the pack fighters, but that doesn't mean it translates when taking on the best in the world.

still don't understand the Edgar/Charles Oliveira fight. Oliveira could have been a future star, but the UFC through him to the wolves way too early.

UFC 162: Return of the Cripplaaahhhhh.... (OH, and Anderson Silva's somewhere on the card as well.)

Chris The Crippler Leben vs. Andrew Craig: Well, my man is on another slide down the rankings but I still love me some Lebes. You know that at least one fight tonight will be a barnburner with a finish. Andrew Craig is young and fresh. He's on the way up and Leben is on the way out but I'm hoping my boy can pull off another KO victory. I never want to see guys like Chris Leben fall out of the UFC.

Go Lebes! KTFO, round 3.

Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Siver: Very interesting fight. Cubby's on a bit of a roll and Siver is a schweet striker. This one should have some speed and power combined. I have always felt bad for Swanson because of his embarrassingly fast losses to Aldo and Little Evil so I'll be rooting for him tonight.

Cubby with the anaconda choke, also in round 3.

Tim Boetsch vs. Mark Munoz: We'll see if Mark can come back from his loss to Weidman and subsequent depression/weight gain with his head on straight. I'd say he's good enough to beat Boetsch 4 times out of 5 but every once in a while Tim comes in so fired up that he really breaks his opponents early. If he does that tonight he can take advantage of a delicate Munoz. Still, I'm going with Mark.

Munoz by unanimous decision.

Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliviera: Charles is so versatile and fast. I have to wonder if maybe Frankie's wars will begin to take their toll on him at some point. However, there's just no way you pick against a guy as tough as Frankie when he's facing a shaky up-and-comer in Oliviera. Too much experience and grit in Edgar's game right now.

Edgar by unanimous decision.

Chris Weidman vs. Anderson "The Spider" Silva, champion: I've already made my call on this fight a few posts ago. Chris just isn't ready for Silva. Anderson will F him up. Weidman might even have a good first round but he'll tire early under the pressure and constant threat of a deadly strike. He's 9-0 but he hasn't faced anyone that could come close to beating the Spider.

Silva by TKO, round 2.

Lol @ that staredown. Yeah, I don't understand the Oliveira matchup either. He has some beautiful BJJ and could definitely be a future star but I don't see him submitting Edgar.

Quick Picks for tonight's card:

Andrew Craig def Chris Leben via UD

Dave Herman def Gabriel Gonzaga via TKO R2

Edson Barbosa def Rafaello Oliveira via KO R1

Cub Swanson def Dennis Siver via UD

Mark Munoz def Tim Boetsch via TKO R2

Roger Gracie def Tim Kennedy via submission (RNC) R1

Frankie Edgar def Charles Oliveira via UD

Anderson Silva def Chris Weidman via KO R2

This card is pretty nice from top to bottom. I'm very excited about Edson Barbosa, he always has potential to deliver KO of the year. Also, Charles Oliveira has some of the most beautiful jiu jitsu in MMA, but I don't see him getting past Frankie Edgar...Edgar is just too good IMO. Cub Swanson/Dennis Siver has potential to be a standup war, Roger Gracie might be the best pure BJJ practitioner in the world right now, so I'm always happy to see him. And of course Anderson Silva is always a fight that you want to see.  :)

If Anderson crushes Weidman, Silva vs. Jones hype will increase 10 fold. If Jones beats Gus, they should make it freaking happen. Why not? Would be once in a lifetime stuff. Anderson just said in an interview with Chael Sonnen that he's here to fight anybody. Cool, let's see it. Want some money UFC?

I'm looking past this fight, and sure Weidman poses a threat, but if Anderson crumples him up, C'MON. I'm like a broken record every time Silva fights...at least it's not Okami or Bonnar. Shoulda bet my house on those fights.

I am astonished that the ESPN "experts" are split 50-50 on the Silva-Weidman fight. I like Weidman, and I think he has a shot, but I would not be comfortable picking him against Anderson.

I can see one person picking him, but split?

I think a lot of folks are picking Weidman just so they can say they were right on the off chance he scores an upset

Mike Goldberg already dropped a "greatest challenge of Anderson Silva's career"  which means of course now Spider KO's him in :30

GSP has been one of Weidman's biggest "he is gonna beat Silva" cheerleaders, it would take a ton of pressure off him to accept a super fight with Silva, if Weidman was able to pull an upset.

You know how baseball fields have adverts that award everyone with something if a home run hits a certain spot on the sign? MMA needs that. Like a coffin shape on the mat where if a guy lands upon being KOd everyone gets free tacos.
