Did anyone else feel like Vera was almost using the broken orbital bone (is that what it turned out to be?) as an excuse for his loss? I realize that it was the REASON for his loss, but he almost seemed to laugh after the fight and point to his eye as though saying "I didn't get beat, I just got injured and couldn't continue". Or, is my dislike of Vera clouding reality?

i thin you're reading a tad too much into it.

vera curled up immediately after he got hit. i think he had a realization that he's already peaked in his career. i think he was laughing to stop from crying :ols:

UFC on Versus Injuries: Brandon Vera suffered three broken facial bones from the elbow he took, and Duane Ludwig suffered a 'severe' break to his ankle which will likely require surgery.

that sound you heard was Vera's face shattering

Jones' elbow made sportscenter's top 10 :ols:

for the insomniacs out there, Dream 13 starts at 3am(est) :ols:
I heard in the Barnett vs Mighty Mo fight that Barnett kicks Mo straight in the balls with wrestling boots on that puts him down for 15 minutes. Apparently it was so bad that DREAM doctors were massaging his balls :ols:. After the 15 minutes Mo says its so bad he can't fight anymore but DREAM officials got in the ring and "forced" him to fight which Barnett easily takes him down and submits him. Right after the fight in the ring Barnett apologizes by letting Mo knee him in the balls. :ols: Only in Japan.

Holy %^$%$#!!!! I never thought I'd see the day. Welcome back, Mike. Jump in the beer thread.

I all my picks wrong. I talked myself into liking the underdogs. New guys are tearing through the uFC right now. The sport is changing at a rapid pace.

They need to start allowing upkicks right away. No reason someone shouldn't be able to try to stop a Jon Jones elbow with a kick if possible.

Guess who's back in the mother****ing house!?

Yeah I just got to watch the card last night. It was full of weird endings. The Irvin fight and the Buentello fight were both kind of odd.

I did like seeing Brandon Vera get beatdown though, he's on my list of most hated fighters. Jon Jones is exciting to watch, I want to see him fight some more...is he called bones because he breaks facial bones with his elbows? Lol. He's got to be careful leaving those long arms out when he's in someone's guard though, a good jiu jitsu guy would've armbarred him the other night.

That John Howard KO was brutal. Stupid ref was standing all the way across the cage like a dumbass.

I also heard that Duane Ludwig broke his ankle really bad in his fight but I haven't seen the pics yet. And apparently Clay Guida got a nice arm triangle.

I'm ready for the two main events on Saturday.

yes fellers...its me. thanks for the warm welcome.

Jon Jones is giong to go some place at 205 for 2 reasons. 1, he is very young and already this talented. and 2, he is young and will eventually become the primed vet and will get the belt. the kid's upside is unreal.

I admit that I haven't been following the upcoming UFC PPV with my normal fervor, but has Mir said or spoke about Carwin? Or did Dana put in place a gag order? I've read about his "use my strength for good" speech, but has he even said a word about the upcoming fight? Not sure if that's a good sign or bad.

Just curious for the rest of you; If Mir loses this fight, is he off the map in your opinion? Not sure why I like him, since I abhor **** talkers. IMO he's not off the map, but he'd be close to the edge. I'm still impressed as **** with his dismantling of Chek, and of Nog, but it will prove that he beat lesser-tier fighters (particularly after Nog having been destroyed), and won't mean squat to me.

I need to start posting in this thread, I love watching MMA, haven't been a hardcore fan...just got into it over the past few years. It's a shame I have Dish network and no VS so I missed the Live event, glad to hear Vera got pounded. Funny thing they were saying how good he would be making the drop from heavy to light heavyweight but he's done nothing but struggle since. Really wanna catch the PPV this weekend, anybody have some info on a free stream?

edit: Just saw the Jones v. Vera fight, ouch...that elbow was lethal.

I lost a bit of my man crush for Mir over the last 6-8 months because of his mouth, but I can't drop him out of the picture yet just because he lost to Lesnar. Frank made quite a comeback from his motorcycle crash which could have (maybe should have) ended his career. He's still technically the best HW out there. Lesnar is a freak of science and should be in an even higher weight class than HW if one existed. I think Mir crushes anyone else. If he loses to Carwin it won't be by submission or decision. It'll be Carwin's punching power that does it and let's face it- anyone can be KOed by a HW punch.

There's a lot of "I respect the man but when that cage door closes" talk. No bad blood at all. They both are on the Brock Lesnar hatred bandwagon.

Totally agree about Vera. Free stream should be on Sopcast or adthe.net. Since you'll watch it online visit this thread and one will be posted.

http://www.tmz.com/2010/03/25/brain-irregularity-thiago-pitbull-alves-ufc-111-jon-finch-george-st-pierre/

UFC's Thiago "Pitbull" Alves will not fight at Saturday's UFC 111, because a CAT Scan shows an irregularity in his brain ... TMZ has learned.

Thiago was scheduled to rumble with Jon Fitch on Saturday -- but a pre-fight CAT Scan revealed an irregularity -- a source close to 26-year-old Pitbull tells TMZ the irregularity involves an artery in the brain.

UFC honcho Dana White tells TMZ he will fly Pitbull to a specialist for further evaluation. White says, "If it's true, it can be career-ending."

No one will replace Pitbull on Saturday. The headliner is Georges St- Pierre -- ironically, the fighter who solidly beat Thiago in his last fight last July.

i hope Alves is alright long term. injuries keep coming

Man I hope he's ok. That's a serious health concern. Especially for someone that fights for a living.

I have to imagine that a brain "irregularity" will ultimately = retirement. Even if it's not something life-threatening right now, I can't imagine any physician in the country will certify a dude that gets punched/elbowed/kicked in the head for a living to go back to it after this.

Yeah same here. I just hope he doesn't have an aneurysm or anything.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=11049&zoneid=13

Though it is often featured on “SportsCenter,” mixed martial arts has yet to grab a show of its own on The Worldwide Leader in Sports, but two of ESPN’s sister channels, ESPN2 and TSN, are ready to take on MMA.

“MMA Live” is a weekly 30-minute show currently running on ESPN.com that focuses on news, events, interviews, and other aspects of mixed martial arts. Jon Anik hosts the show, which also features analysts Kenny Florian and Franklin McNeil. Stephan Bonnar, Miguel Torres, Frank Mir, and Rashad Evans also serve as expert analysts on the show.

Continuing its weekly schedule and half-hour format, “MMA Live” will begin its run on ESPN2 in the United States and TSN in Canada sometime in the next few weeks, according to MMAWeekly.com sources. An announcement of the move from the Internet to cable television could come from ESPN as soon as Thursday.

“MMA Live” debuted on ESPN.com on May 15, 2008, with a three-episode test run. The show got a strong enough response that it has aired weekly on the Internet ever since, but the plan from the onset was always to try and take the show to cable.

“It’s strictly going to be on ESPN.com. It’s not going to be on TV as of right now,” Florian told MMAWeekly.com prior to its Internet debut. “If it goes well, we’ll do a regular thing on the Internet, and if it does even better, then possibly you’ll see it on TV.”

Less than two years later and the time has finally arrived for “MMA Live.”
