Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote to headline UFC 90 in Chicago

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=6773&zoneid=13

Anderson Silva will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight title against hard-hitting Canadian Patrick Cote in the main event of UFC 90 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago on Oct. 25.

The news comes from the Chicago Sun Times who cited UFC president Dana White.

Anderson Silva is coming off a first round knockout win in the light heavyweight division over James Irvin on July 19 at UFC Fight Night 14. The bout with Cote will mark his return to the middleweight division and will be his fifth title defense.

Cote is coming off a win over Ricardo Almeida at UFC 86.

Ultimate Fighter season one winner Diego Sanchez is expected to take on American Top Team trained Thiago Alves in the co-main event.

UFC 90, funny UFC 87 is in two weeks. That means inclucing that event there are three events before October, money grubbing biatches. Put them on one freaking card man!

Last nights fights were pretty good IMO, nothing spectacular but good. Still think there needs to be a tournament where the best from each league get together and bang it out. Once a year, you fight all year long to be at the top of your league for a chance at a unified title. I think MMA fans deserve to see the best in the ring and not just who Dana thinks will put on a good show.

Cyborg has a dick, no doubt about it. Tell you what though, seeing Gina get all fired up and ready to fight was freaking hot! Nothing like a girl wanting to bang it out in the ring, especially when they're as hot as she is.

Don't you think they're over saturated the market though? I mean, a PPV almost every other month is ridiculus and they could easily make much bigger cards by combining some of these fights. Guess you can't blame them though, if people are paying for it why stop.

On Monday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship officially announced that UFC 89, taking place in Birmingham, England would, as previously rumored, be shown for free on Spike TV on a same-day tape delay. The event will broadcast in the United States at 9pm EST/PST.

The promotion also confirmed that former heavyweight fighter, Brandon Vera, will have a prolonged stay at 205lbs as he is set to face off against former “Ultimate Fighter” season 2 cast member, Keith Jardine at UFC 89.

Vera made his debut at 205lbs on July 19 where he pulled out a unanimous, albeit lackluster, win over UFC newcomer, Reese Andy. Jardine will return for the first time since May when he suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Wanderlei Silva.

That has potential to be a snoozefest. I'm actually going to pull for Jardine for the first time in my life for this fight.

I agree. Despite Vera being from VA, I can't stand him. He's like Nick Diaz with half of the talent. Annoying and has no reason to be as ****y as he is. I do like the move to LHW though.

I'm rooting for big John to be the ref and he gets bored and knocks them both the **** out

I second that

Isn't Big John retired?

Yes unfortunately. He had it out with Dana White and Joe Silva. He was one of the guys doing commentary on the Affliction card though, and he's pretty damn good at it. I wouldn't mind seeing him stick to commentary.

It looks like he was talking **** to that guy before their fight (during the referee review of rules/staredown) the other night on Elite XC...what was all that about? Looked pretty classless to me.

Looked like the guy he was fighting was doing most the jawing. Dunno, I like Diaz. How can you not like a guy who can blaze up and still whoop some ass? His BJJ is phenomenal.

indeed his BJJ is top notch. his stand up is so damn delibrate though. i can pretty much predict everything Diaz is going to throw. he can get away with that fighting Mushin Corrbrey's & Thomas Denny's, but i don't like his odds when he fights Noons again, which sucks because i can't stand Noons.

You sir are absolutely correct, his standup is horrendous. Nick has a chin though and that'll get you a long way in this game especially for a sub specialist. If you can take some licks and hang in there long enough to lure your guy into a grapple then you'll win a lot of fights. What Nick needs to do is lay off the freaking weed and get a good boxing coach. If he improves his standup he's going to be tough to beat.

Him and his brother are freaking scrappy little ****s.

I love the Diaz's. They are so damn scrappy and are full of heart. I also love their attitude.

also, its being reported that tito might be fighting babalu. I'm probably alone on this, but I think Babalu wins easily. Much better stand up and his BJJ is absolutely amazing.

You love their attitude? I can see someone liking Nick, but Nate is a huge d-bag. He talks and acts like those uneducated punks you see at clubs/bars/parties always trying to start something because someone looked at them the "wrong way".

I know that there's always going to be people that act like that, but a professional fighter?

hell yeah. why not? He backs up his talk.

And don't even refer to his spat with Karo, he is the biggest dbag in the world.

I can't stand Noons either.

Like you said Diaz telegraphs everything he throws. He also doesn't have KO power, it's his reach that gets him a long way in his weight class because he's tall & lanky for a LW.

If he could work on mixing up his boxing and using head movement he could use that reach to keep Noons at bay, wear him down and take it to the ground where KJ is a fish out of water.

Diaz can be a better striker it's just something he has to work on and clean up his sloppiness....hell, he outboxed Gomi last year, all he needs is some focus and preparation.

I've said before in this thread that I'm a big Diaz Bros fan. They both start slow and are lazy until shocked into action. Nate is behind in all his UFC fights until he gets the sub. Nick is a better boxer than you guys are giving him credit for. Those telegraphed punches land frequently and he wears guys down until they are drunk from jabs and uppers. Then he dispatches them. His ground game is awesome, especially in defense and escapes.

Nick doesn't mind playing the bad guy. I like that. I actually expect Nate to lose a fight soon because he needs a wake-up call for his stand-up game.

P.S.- I also am not big on Noons. I hope Nick gets some revenge there.
