  1. My thought exactly. This was brought up in the Haskins thread and I firmly believe it's true that those most critical of RR are still in the tank for Haskins. No I think it played out just as you described. He wanted to give Dwayne a shot, who wouldn't given his talent and improved play last season? He gave him a training camp and 4 weeks, that was ample time to form an evaluation and he moved on from him at that point. As for the mixed message entirely too much has been made of that IMO. A coach can't just say his QB stinks, no coach should do that to a player and he is still trying to retain what little value he still had. As for the timeouts at the beginning of a lost season I too saw no point in risking injuries to starters in a game that was not going to be won in a lost season. But as the games played out Ron saw how the division was shaking out and said "hey, let's go try to win this thing". Neither of these approaches seems unreasonable to me. A coach should be allowed to change direction given the change of events that took place since the start of the season without being run up the flag poll for doing so. Another important point is unlike in Dallas Ron has clearly not lost the support of the players.
  2. This is true but it's clearly more of a passing league now than it was back then. so the quarterback position is of even more value today. What people want to conveniently forget about those three quarterbacks is at the time they won those rings every one of them was in fact playing like a franchise quarterback. People act as if they were playing like Wade Wilson but they won anyway to support the idea that you don't need a great quarterback. Again those quarterbacks were great in the at the time they won the Super Bowl, in the case of Mark Rypien when he reverted to who he really was the team went in another direction. To expect a 10-year run with an average quarterback is setting yourself up for failure. Common sense should tell us that you get more good seasons out of a quarterback who's actually good instead of one who caught lightning in a bottle like Ryp did.
  3. Thank you, just about to post the same thing. Just so tired of the whole Joe Gibbs/three different quarterbacks analogy, that was a different time. The teams that have lasting success in the league today more often than not have a really good quarterback. when you consider the fact that less than a third of the teams in the league have a top 10 quarterback yet they're the teams making the majority of the playoff and super bowl appearances this should be obvious. But sadly to some it's still not for some strange reason
  4. I am a firm believer that the team with the better QB usually wins the game because it has played out this way for so many game. My fear is Kyle will play just well enough to fool the staff into thinking they can get by with him and that would be a mistake. No I don't want a retread. Or a failed high pick such as Darnold as those guys never develop with the new team, that is chasing fools gold. This team is so bad a top 3 pick is definitely within reach, especially after yesterday. If it were me I'd root for 1-15 for the chance to take Trevor Lawrence but I don't see the Jets winning a game.
  5. I knew before the season started that LB was a huge weakness that nobody seems to be talking about. Run defense is more LB than DL anyway so agree with you. But I still think Allen is overrated. Czabe even threw his name out as Washington players deserving of the top 50 player list. I had to ask what has Jonathan Allen done in a Washington uniform that would ever make him believe he is a top 50 player in the NFL?
  6. Sweat has been fantastic, fulfilling his potential very quickly. Sweat and Young are great bookends, I remain convinced Jonathan Allen is highly overrated by Washington fans based on his college career and draft projections. Payne has been solid but I'm hoping for more down the road. Matt I is very very good too, he is really missed. Tim Settle may have been our best defensive lineman for many years until they invested in the unit recently.
  7. There aren't many left but the people still defending Dan Snyder as a decent man are downright idiots.
  8. Yeah this was my take. I liked the signing, by every report he was a good to great player. But just as with Norman's first year here I didn't understand the praise, he was nothing special last year and downright terrible this season. Safety. Seems we have been fielding terrible players at the position forever. I miss Sean Taylor.
  9. I am amazed that a poster was claiming he is no worse than other owners. I mean just look at the last page of this thread, this is not happening with other teams. Then remember all the accounts of former employees saying it's the worst work environment they have ever seen. Do the other owners forbid their employees from looking them in the eye as Snyder does?
  10. I always thought that even if he was healthy through camp he was gonna be a work in progress and possibly a starter by mid-season. Now I don't see that happening.
  11. Personally I've seen enough of Geron Christian. To be a young, bad player and not be motivated to work hard to improve is a sin as a professional athlete. Now that he's taking his job seriously he's still terrible. What is the status of Lucas anyway? Obviously Charles is not close but seems to me Lucas would be a better option.
  12. As Michaels is a key player do you really think he will protect Snyder after he was forced out? Oh yeah, thought the article was fine and I'm tired of it being picked apart. As was posted writer was asked what the chances were and he gave a hard number and was the only person to my knowledge who did that. His inside info was also informative.
  13. I was hesitant to watch but tried to find it last night at 5 but for some reason not on here in Mt Airy. Not sure why that was. Can someone summarize any new info on Snyder if there was any?
  14. This is a very accurate recount of Brad Johnson. You are right, his magic wore off by the end of the 1999 season and was totally gone by 2000 but nobody seems to remember that.
  15. A good friend used to host a party for one game a year. I remember it was the Cardinals and we ALWAYS beat the Cardinals. Until that day. I'll never forget his brother and I looking at each other and saying "we suck"with a stunned look on our face. It really hadn't happened to me before, other than that one year in 1980, and we didn't know how to handle it.
  16. The difference between Richardson and Snyder is Richardson elected to sell the franchise after the criticism and Snyder will refuse this. I also agree with the comments that the good old boys do not want to set the bar too low for removal or they put their own ownership at risk. But then again these are different times. I'm sure the league is a bit tired of all the bad publicity this owner is giving them, but without more this isn't enough to oust him.
  17. Very true. But my point was dismissing a source simply because the source chooses to protect them self by being anonymous is ridiculous. Much information over the years of journalism was captured by anonymous sources. That's why journalists are avid about not revealing their sources.
  18. Thanks for this. I too didn't recall Rice taking a few years to develop but I was too lazy to look it up.
  19. I would definitely invest a few bucks in a Honda with 175,000 miles, I've got a Civic with 231,000 and I just replaced the serpentine belt. I would not recommend a flush, as the injections can loosen particles into the transmission. The recommendation I have always heard for older cars is to simply drop the pan and do a transmission fluid change as you would an oil change.
  20. He was the first person I thought of when they announced there will no preseason games. I hated them too but 2 would be fine, you have to give your first year guys an opportunity.
  21. Cool. I always wanted to play on a national team of some sort. I'll play lacrosse for you, it will be fun!
  22. So I could qualify? Are you looking for any 61 year old lacrosse players who have never played lacrosse by any chance?
  23. Surprised I have not seen you before. My family is Dutch, grandparents immigrated during the depression and my dad grew up on a tulip bulb farm in, where else, Michigan where all the Dutch collected in America.
  24. Can't rep you enough, I may steal that first post and use it on another board. Just offering full disclosure.
