  1. See my post above for clarification. I'm hardly covering my ass. I'm simply making observations of what we've seen to date and (this is the important part) I firmly believe he will develop into the player he is projected to be. Not sure how that is interpreted as covering my ass but whatever.
  2. I was done here but I'd be glad to clarify. I'll illustrate it with bullets so it will be clear. Besides I always wanted to try that function. It is not unreasonable for fans to look at a player who was touted as a generational talent, a dominant player, to have made more impactful plays after 11 games. I appear to be the only poster who has actually watched the games and counted the double teams, at least for the Detroit game. I'm simply clarifying that the notion that he is constantly facing double and triple teams is completely false. I am obviously in that first group but have made it perfectly clear in several posts that I do not regret the pick and am convinced he will become that player in the future. This was somehow was interpreted by you and others to mean I am calling him a bust 11 games into his career when I did the exact opposite.
  3. It's not the only thing that matters. But if you are suggesting a guy slated as a dominant edge rusher who does not get sacks is insignificant then I suggest you think again. So to clarify a poster who has posted that he expected more impactful plays but has no doubt in his mind that Chase Young will in time become a great, dominant player is finding a way to call him a bust? I really can't ague with that type of logic because I have done no such thing.
  4. Just how many more times do I need to post that I have little doubt Chase Young will become a great player? Others who have been critical have also been saying something similar. I'm simply trying to set the record straight with regard to double and triple teams and how disappointed to date does not mean bust. This is getting very very annoying.
  5. Now wait just a minute. The talk is about 70/30 with the Chase defenders being the majority. The rest are simply saying for the 2nd overall pick, a generational talent, they expected more impactful plays. That is simply not an unreasonable position to take. Now we have posters claiming he is constantly fighting through double and triple teams which is flat out false, we have posters claiming "disappointed" means "bust" which is equally wrong. This is where we are.
  6. And by the same token if anyone dares to be critical of a player he is almost attacked for voicing that opinion. It was the reason I stayed away for so long after signing up, just too many homers. The Boswell article, I saw it. That's not the same as a poster claiming he was already a bust as was implied.
  7. You are now the 3rd person to say this. I honestly have never seen anyone come close to calling him a bust, but again I didn't read all 161 pages. Would you mind supplying a few of them if it's not too much to ask? I'm really curious to see them.
  8. It's not complicated, and no i do not have a magic number just as you would not have one to show he is making impactful plays. It's the eye test. We don't see him making plays in the backfield, that would be considered an impact play if it's a sack or a run stop for a 3 yard loss as we see other dominant defensive lineman make on a regular basis. The play he made on the screen pass that allowed Bostic to make the play, that was an impactful play where you needed replay to appreciate it. As was the play on the Borrow at the goal line, that was clear to see. They aren't hard to see if they are there, they aren't as much as many of us would like. Yet. As I keep posting I fully expect that to change as you do as well.
  9. I went back and counted the double teams against Detroit. Did you do the same? Well since I can assume you did not let me inform you that he was double teamed by design exactly 4 times for the entire game, on 2 others a guard and a back slid over late when they had nobody else to block but that was not a designed double team. After reading a post claiming Chase was fighting off double and triple teams I started to watch the Bengals but my wife came in. I can report that on the first drive he faced exactly 1 double team, but I have not watched it all and will let you know the final tally. The truth is in the plays I have charted the vast majority he was in fact blocked one on one by the tackle. You don't need to know the play design to see that.
  10. Agreed. That's what places like this is for. And for the record I'll state again I have zero concern that he will meet expectations at some point.
  11. Yeah I had a groin tear from softball, it sucked. But I don't want to hear about Chase's groin injury, every NFL player has injuries. All the good ones face double teams. It sound like there are a lot of what sounds like excuses to some extent to me. As for walking into a bad situation all I heard all offseason was how good the Dline was, that had to help Chase. While 20 sacks for a rookie is unrealistic I don't think it's unreasonable for fans to have expected more impact plays at this point in the season, that's all I'm saying.
  12. Well I'm certainly not going to read 161 pages to confirm @PartyPosse's claim. I'll simply state the posts I have seen are more in line with "I was expecting more impact plays". Tell the truth, didn't you after 10 games? As I continue to post I am not worried about Chase Young being a good to great player some day. But I just thought I'd see more explosive plays. But several plays on Sunday showed what a good football player his is already, just not a game changer. Yet. I also agree with the comment that Sweat was also hesitant in his rookie season, I look for this to change for Chase as well moving forward.
  13. That is your (poor) interpretation. What I have seen is clearly "thought we'd see more by now" than people claiming he was a bust which didn't happen.
  14. See that's the thing, I have seen nobody call Chase Young a bust but posters are reacting as if they did. Many of us have simply said we expected more impact plays by this point in the season or in my case pointing out the claim that he is constantly being double teamed is simply not true. I had commented on this before the groin injury. In college he was the first one off the ball, many of his plays were made this way by beating his man off the edge. Early in the season he got flagged for a few off sides and he is hesitating, he is not the first one off the ball as he was in college. So yeah that first step has been missing all year. I have supreme confidence it will return as he gets used to the NFL game.
  15. Again I'm unconcerned that Chase Young will become a great, dominant player. And I do believe many great pass rushers take time to develop. But other than Mack, who had 4, here are the pass rushers I thought of off the top of my head and their rookie sack totals. It should be noted that every good pass rusher takes on double teams on a regular basis: DeMarcus Ware: 8.0 Von Miller: 11.5 Joey Bosa: 10.5 Nick Bosa: 9.0 Aaron Donald: 9.0
  16. I didn't chart this game. I did look back at Detroit and they were not doing 3 step drops all game, Chase was double teamed by designed 4 times for the entire game.
  17. That play showed what a good football player Chase Young is. And he has made several plays like this. But @GOATFrerotte has made solid points. Once again I watched Chase exclusively, and once again the narrative that he is constantly getting double teamed is simply not true. Of course Barrow threw a lot of quick 3 step drops, but that was not the case for the Bengals for the entire game. At this point in time he is not making plays in the backfield, he simply needs to learn better technique as a pass rusher as his bull rush is his most common move and it's not working. But this is something I have no doubt will come in time. But right now the simple truth that WFT fans don't want to accept is that for the vast majority of plays this year he has been handled one on one by the opposing tackles. And many of those LTs are below average LTs.
  18. Yeah I didn't get that line either. But I would bet that Chase gets 1+. But then again he went against back tackles before and got shut out.
  19. I'm not read to get rid of Kyle. It has to be said that much of this roster was constructed with Bruce Allen in control. With that said I still believe the "hits" drafted recently are not really hits with the exception of Terry obviously.
  20. I sure hope you are right. Me? I'm leaning towards the league stripping the WFT of their first round pick next year. Isn't that how it always works, the fans pay the price around here?
  21. I am an idiot and can't figure out how to delete a post so these words are to prove how much of an idiot I am.
  22. All the goods ones would be my guess. And Chase is good, he's just not there yet obviously.
  23. Please don't post stupid stuff. We were having an adult discussion.
  24. I just got through watching the game again, watched Chase exclusively. I suggest @GOATFrerotte do the same. He was double teamed exactly 5 times for the entire game, on 2 other plays the guard slid over to help late but the ball was out (one was a TD pass). I also saw him make exactly one play, the forced incompletion by Stafford which of course was offset with the roughing the passer penalty that cost them the chance in overtime. He could have easily been called for a face mask on a 3rd down sack, a play he was again handled one on one by the right tackle. For the vast majority of the game he was handled one on one by the tackle, he slid from right side to left side the entire game, or by a running back that cut him resulting in a big run around the left side of the defense.
  25. Well at least Chase Young made an impactful play for once. It's a start, only time he got close to the QB the entire game.
