  1. I'm kind of with you. I think with a more aggressive DC who is willing to supplement the front 4 with more blitzes, these guys can really go off. Ultimately, Chase is proving that he is worthy of a top 5-10 LTD now. The issue is if Montez wants that too - I think of him as more top 20. Yes there is something to this. When I look ahead at pending FAs, there aren't many that i want to go pay and spend the $ on. I ultimately think we need to solve our OT, TE and LB needs through the draft https://www.nfl.com/news/top-50-nfl-free-agents-in-2024-tee-higgins-headlines-deep-receiver-crop-pass-rus
  2. The exception is if both come together in a package a la Schoen and Daboll or Lynch and Shanny
  3. He is justified. Ron basically did what Payton did to Hackett without saying it out loud directly like Payton did back in 2020
  4. No doubt in my mind Jay was a better talent evaluator than Ron is. From stuff he has said, he also understands the strategy piece of personnel like taking certain positions certain rounds. It says a lot that McCloughan called Jay a better talent evaluator of any HC he has worked with
  5. Bradley Chubb + a 5th went for a 1st, 4th and Chase Edmonds last year. Your valuation is too low based on how both guys are performing this year. The only X factor is if other EDGEs at that caliber are on the market and the only guy who comes top of mind is Burns
  6. The info on “who gets the tag” is irrelevant. New GM makes that call. For all his warts, I’d rather have Chase.
  7. That Mathis stat is wrong. He did play last year before going down in the Jax game
  8. I don’t think you have to worry
  9. He is a complete troll when it comes to Taylor. Ignore it
  10. Doubt it. Lucas is a good pass blocker. Hopefully he kills it to strengthen his case to start over Wylie
  11. I buy it more if we are talking back half of the first round vs the first half given that the bust rate seems to increase quite a bit at premium positions in the back half. To your point, if one piece can put a team over the top potentially like the Bills with Kincaid, I get that I am generally ok with teams going to town on non premium positions starting with the 2nd. Not entirely related to this - With the Lions specifically, they used their first 4 picks on non premium positions. What is interesting is that the 2 2nd round guys are the ones delivering a lot of value so far (LaPorta and Branch). Campbell is off to a slow start if we go by PFF and Gibbs, for some reason, had just not seized the backfield
  12. The slow start for most TEs is another reason to generally avoid them in round 1 if you are trying to maximize the value of a first round rookie contract. When you pair the lower expected ROI you get in at least year 1 with the lower spread between positional AAV post rookie contract with the rookie deal, financially, it does not make a ton of sense. I feel off ball LB fits this too.
  13. Is Mims your 3rd guy? I really hope his makeup checks out. I’m starting to get as leery of Georgia linemen as I am Alabama linemen.
  14. Better hope his dad wouldn't take a job here in a meaningful way. He was a terrible position coach and DC, which is why he is in the CFL. On another note, you could pair Slowik with Adam Peters. The two spent years together on the 49ers and there is probably a working relationship between the two
  15. Bostic was not slow and Barton is not slow. They may play slower due to ****ty instincts but they are not slow
  16. It’s crazy how that three keeps on giving. If Ben Johnson doesn’t come here, I would go after Slowik and Petzig. Both guys have really impressed me this season. Slowik for building a high flying offense with a rookie QB and average talent around him & Petzig for making Josh Dobbs look like a very competent QB and getting that O to out up a surprising number of points. Little known fact about Slowik is he spent a few years working for PFF in between his coaching stints
  17. I believe @KDawg had a strong opinion that you want to use Quan in the box or as a nickel but that deep safety was not necessarily his strong suit (@KDawg correct me if I am wrong on this). If this holds, it wouldn't allow Quan to play to his strengths taking over Forrest's spot unless they rotate Kam from buffalo nickel to Forrest's spot)
  18. The lack of height and higher end athleticism definitely hurt his upside. You could win and win big with him if you are able to get more high end talent around him.
  19. @skinzplay What are you hearing about the prospective staff Ben Johnson may assemble? My worry when it comes to him is that he wouldn't seem to have a very good first degree network based on where he has spent his career (Miami in the down years, including time with Gase, and Detroit doesn't seem to have a lot of young high upside assistantsto bring with him...Engstrand, a Harbaugh disciple, gives off those vibes but it seems like the Lions are positioning him to take over as OC once BJ leaves Detroit)
  20. And he was also Snyder’s chief outside advisor and gave us Ron. I hope Harris is not listening to him
  21. Honestly, Forrest has kind of been a disappointment so far. He lacks the football IQ Kam has and is more of a box safety vs a deep half safety, which he has played more of. With Reaves out too, we will get to see what Quan is made of
  22. I think this OL may be a good starting tackle and a better OL coach away from competence. Took a look ahead at 2024 FA and it is ugly. Getting a first round starting tackle with a high chance of being a Day 1 starter should be the top priority assuming Howell shows enough promise and we don’t end up in a position to take Williams or Maye. To me, that means being aggressive and trading the 2nd and more picks to move up.
  23. I was initially thinking that but I think it is also coaching. It is telling that Forrest has regressed quite a bit this year and Butler doesn’t seem to have developed much. Also telling Martin is even less ready to play than Forbes based on what we saw in preseason. The safeties have also been responsible for the coverage busts. Until the SF game last year, there were a stretch of games where the D played very well without Holcomb (who was lost for the year relatively early). The guys playing well or relatively well are Fuller, BSJ & Curl, the higher IQ vets who are less dependent on coaching I highly doubt that our lead secondary coach Visselmeyer will have a job in the NFL next year. If I recall correctly, JDR plucked him from the HS ranks after coaching his son EDIT: This is one of the worst lead position coach resumes I have ever seen:
  24. Bostic is a great example of a highly intelligent player that is a coach on the field who just can’t play the game himself
  25. Folks around the league would better understand firing Ron at 2-9 vs 2-3. At 2-3, you look like you have a fast trigger as an ownership group. They are not going to fire Ron before the end of the season unless there is a massive nosedive and/or Ron loses the locker room
