  1. Dude got overpaid and got more than some better off ball LBs like Tranquill. Solid player but I’m good without him at that price. Guys like him unfortunately fit the types of players you let go in FA - Gibson, Samuel and Forrest all fit that mold
  2. This year, you also have Stromberg as another backup guard option. The depth is also better because you have more position flex among all the players. I strongly believe Leno/Wylie/Gates/Cosmi/Lucas is the best OL they can roll out there, at least for pass pro. However, Ron is going to avoid doing that as long as possible because doing so would admit incompetence as the FO head. Separate point is if the 2023 offseason is an audition for Ron as head of personnel, it is going poorly: FA Signings: Wylie - bust Barton - bust Gates - neutral Brissett - neutral Note: Abdullah Anderson has been the best FA signing relative to value Draft: Forbes - no brainer they should have taken Gonzalez Martin - can’t get on the field; probably should have taken Mauch Note: Zero contribution from other picks outside of special teams
  3. The key move there was signing a multi Pro Bowl veteran LT to a reasonable contract in FA without having to give up any draft compensation. That rarely happens. This OL has depth and better depth this year than it has in previous years. The issue is that the backups are comparable players to the starters (ex Paul vs Charles) or better (Lucas vs Wylie)
  4. At least with Philly, they will need to revert to their gameplan from the second game last year. The difference is that this year the Eagles have Jalen Carter
  5. From their Carolina days, Shaq Thompson is their quintessential pick. Rock solid long time starter at a devalued position who has never made a Pro Bowl. Jamin is version 2.0 of this
  6. Agreed but the mistake RR made was not drafting a guy in 2022 in a loaded off ball LB draft and letting him learn for a year to them step in as a replacement…kind of like what the Bills did with Bernard knowing they wouldn’t be able to keep Edmunds
  7. I don’t necessarily blame Ron for not addressing OT this specific offseason as much as I blame him for failing up to make up with Trent, releasing Moses for no reason, passing up Darrisaw for Jamin, taking Mathis instead of taking an Abraham Lucas, etc
  8. There are things to criticize him for but I am glad he is our DC after seeing the likes of Barry, Manusky and Haslett. There are group of guys like Barry, Donatell and Vance Joseph who keep getting DC gigs despite mediocrity. Jack’s defenses have mostly been top 10 throughout his time in the league. I hope the next guy keeps him around (If EB were to get the job, I could see him bringing his boy Joseph in because it is the Nepotism Football League)
  9. I wonder how much not having a veteran OL coach directly overseeing the OL is hurting us. I get Castillo is involved but he is also coaching the TEs and has other duties
  10. I enjoyed Ryan and Tiki but I generally hate when we are on CBS
  11. Kinda nuts that Elam, a recent first round pick, is inactive
  12. It speaks to Gribble’s ability that he was kept around after the regime change. I think we have a great group of scouts especially when you consider the results relative to how little the team was able to spend on it given how cheap Dan was. One or two agents in Standig’s survey complimented the job they were doing.
  13. They have apparently not been blitzing much so far this season and that cost them against the Jets as Zach Wilson is the worst QB in the league against pressure. Knowing Sam likes to hold the ball, I wonder if they bring 5 or 6 a lot more
  14. I don’t think it is just the ballhawking ability. I mentioned the character traits but I also think it was the football IQ they loved about Forbes. My guess is they saw him as a guy who was better able to pick up the zone match scheme. It is why they took Martin as well. It was either Cooley or Paulsen who pointed out how much better the secondary played in the second half in Denver once they shifted to a more vanilla scheme
  15. I wonder how much homework they did on Gonzalez in general given his borderline top 10 projection through the draft cycle. They must have spent a ton of time on Forbes given they knew he was going to be there when they picked.
  16. Given the disdain they have for his brother, I don’t know why the league office would give Jay a job regardless. I would think he could easily get a local radio show in this market but he seems retired given how much golf he is playing.
  17. I think their worries about Gonzalez were more about his mindset/mentality and they loved Forbes’s. Either way, I was distraught on draft night when they passed up Gonzalez for Forbes. It is very early but Gonzalez is going to be the better player. Assuming he can stay healthy, Forbes will make a Pro Bowl or two with a high interception season but he is always going to have a hole on his game as a run defender despite the want-to being there on his part.
  18. Still undervalued after. Look at the deal he signed with the Raves
  19. I might agree with you if they can get Sweat done before the trade deadline. If they don’t, then it becomes sketchy on whether you can retain Chase. The difference between Chase and the other guys is they turned down Chase’s 5th year option. That tells you what you need to know about where he stands from a priority standpoint. With Pitts, we are not talking about any TE but the most athletic TE in NFL and most highly regarded prospect in NFL history. This is a guy who had a Pro Bowl year as a rookie the last time he played with a real NFL QB. If you add him to an offense that focuses on their TEs more than most when it comes to the passing game, you take this offense to another level. It could be the same level of impact adding McCaffrey had for the SF offense.
  20. Came across an article suggesting we trade for Kyle Pitts as ATL continues to waste his value with their run heavy scheme. I actually agree with this thought if he costs a 2nd or even a 2nd+. If Chase can recoup some value the next few weeks, we are perfect trade partners as they need someone like Chase. If ATL lets Pitts go, they still have a starting caliber TE in Jonnu Smith.
  21. Heck Anthony Walker Jr looked pretty good. He was here for a visit. Could've had him
  22. Meh he is not a fit here. He does not have the athleticism EB looks for in a guard.
