If they don't have CP3, they don't win game 5.  They've got two shots, including a home game, to make an NBA championship.  That's all you can really do as management.

Kevin Love would be a waste on the Rockets because they have no use for his post play and he can't finish at the rim nor is a defensive fit (not athletic enough), and the 8th pick isn't a really valuable asset.

They got rid of Shumpert's and Crowder's contracts.

Golden State's management built a team that's already won two rings and is the favorite to win again.

Kevin Love is an 18 & 9 PF/C that shoots 40% from three.  Most teams could use that, especially one that has mobile, rangy defensive specialists at SF and C like Houston does.  They're paying 20 million a year for the much lesser version of Kevin Love in Ryan Anderson.  And an 8th overall pick isn't nothing, you don't think Morey could make hay with it?  Especially with a rookie contract Clint Capela and cap space to work with?

Shumpert and Crowder were much smaller contracts than JR Smith's and Tristan Thompson's and they took on far more money in exchange.  Crowder's contract is a pittance, one of the better deals in the league for a starting caliber wing who can hit threes and play defense.  Shumpert's only has a player option year for 11 million left.  JR Smith has two more at 15 million per and Thompson has two more at 18 million per.  George Hill has two more at 19 million per, that contract is an absolute anchor for the next two seasons.  And Clarkson's deal has two more for 13 million per.  That is an outrageous 65 million dollars per year over the next two seasons tied up in four replacement level rotation players.  Almost two thirds of their cap.  It's the reason Cleveland can barely hang with an injured, mediocre Boston team full of young players.  And it's the reason LeBron is probably going to walk this summer, because they do not have the flexibility to make the kind of moves that will give him a chance at another ring.

Golden State got lucky without even really trying to get lucky.  That doesn't have much to do with the management.  If the guy that the Rockets took in the 2nd round turned out to be a first team all caliber defensive player, things would be different.

In general, I don't see much demand for #8 picks in the NBA draft so, no, I don't think he could have done much with it.  Especially, not that would have put them in a better position where they only need to win one game to make the NBA championships.  When was the last time there was a big NBA trade for a pick that looked clearly like it was going to be about the 8th pick?  Once you get to the 8th pick in the NBA draft, it really is a crap shoot.

The fact that they are over paying for Ryan Anderson doesn't mean it makes sense for them to get Love.  The fact that they have Anderson, and he's barely playing is an indicator of how unvaluable a Love like player is against a team like GS.  Tucker and Ariza are plenty good shooters and Capella fills a role, and they're all better defenders than Love.  (And Anderson is a better defender when playing GS than Love.)

As soon as you put Love on the floor, the Warriors are seeking him out to attack and going at him repeatedly.

They could not have replaced Paul with Love and be winning this series.  They'd be worse on both ends of the floor.

Crowder wasn't a starting caliber wing for them, which is why they traded him (nor is Shumpert), and he didn't start in Utah.  The Cavs weren't going to fix their cap situation and trading Paul for Love and the 8th pick wasn't going to fix their cap situation.

(Just to be clear, that's a disaster of a trade for the Rockets.  It is a great trade for the Cavs.  But it doesn't really impact the Cavs cap situation at all.  Your logic in that respect doesn't make any sense.  The Cavs shouldn't make the trade because their cap situation is messed up.  Even if they make that trade, their cap situation is still screwed up.  They should make it because it makes them better.  However, they did help their contract situation.  They had 2 guys that aren't NBA starters making NBA starters money, and they traded them for 2 guys that are getting paid NBA starting money that are actually NBA starters.   Yes, they didn't totally fix the situation, but it is better.)

That's one massive choke if Celts lose game 7..

I don't believe LeBron losing this game will hurt his case for GOAT, but winning absolutely would help it.  We're nearly unphased now by these near or over 30 point triple doubles.  If he finally breaks 50 or more in a playoff game and pulls this off...

I love the Under, tho.

Wish I pulled the trigger on this.  It was up to 214.  No way they hit that the way both teams are playing.  Clank central.

Well, if the Rockets hit 3s like that it might.  I should've taken them +13....

I mean, there's three quarters left, but if this is how the Warriors go out, dude, KD should get out of there.  How can you have 4 all-stars, two of them being MVPs, and you're offense looks like that at home in an elimination game?

Dubs have made three Finals in a row with two championships and a win away from a 3 peat. No surprise that they don't quite have that killer instinct.

Rockets gonna make NBA Finals and Capitals in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Eagles won the Super Bowl. We live in bizarro world.
