I feel like getting JMU in the bowl conversation has the potential to bring a lot of positive press/elevated ratings to the bowl process with no real downside.

You have to marvel at the NCAA’s ability to consistently wrong about almost everything.

At the very least, the NCAA is being consistent here in denying any and everyone these waivers.

And fwiw, I think the rule is dumb and needs to be eliminated.

I get it and it sucks..but didn't JMU agree to this when they moved from FCS to BCS?

Of course they did.  It sucks for them, but that's the current rules.  Maybe it will spark change, like adding additional ways to qualify for bowls/playoffs during the first two years besides there not being enough 6-6 teams.

I did a little bit more research on this.  BTW The Athletics has done really good reporting here.

First, and correct me if this is wrong, but JMU is likely to get a bowl game because of the lack of 6-6 teams.  Per The Athetic:

James Madison is a second-year FCS-FBS transition team, meaning it is not eligible for the postseason this year, unless there aren’t enough 6-6 bowl teams. Despite the denial, JMU is still likely to reach a bowl game due to a lack of enough 6-6 teams.

Further, I initially thought that a 2 year bowl ban was ****ing stupid, if a team moves up and deserves a bowl game anyways, they should get to play.  However, after reading all of the transition rules and why they exist, I think they kind of make sense.  And certainly my default position is the rules are the rules and if everyone knows the rules going in, then they should play by the rules.

End of the day, hopefully JMU gets the bowl anyways.

Might explain why Michigan folded.

Sources told ESPN that university leadership this week has shifted its tone from the stern rebuke of the league's sanctions to a growing acceptance that the football program might be dealing with significant NCAA infractions that could include a failure to properly monitor the program on Harbaugh's part.
