Also remember my first year in Morgantown in Jan 1995 coming back from Winter break and we got 18 inches of snow over the the night before class. Was happy that classes were going to be canceled.

Yeah, I was wrong. 😆

Your college didn’t cancel classes after an 18-inch snowstorm? That’s insane!

A snow plow driver is on administrative leave pending an investigation after an incident along the Ohio Turnpike in Erie County involving more than 40 passenger and commercial vehicles.

Bomb cyclone prompts blizzard warnings from Virginia to Maine

Blizzard warnings are in effect for 11 million people from coastal Virginia to eastern Maine as a potentially historic winter storm is set to slam the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast beginning Friday.

Why it matters: The storm will bring hazards ranging from zero visibility amid hurricane force wind gusts and heavy snow, to coastal flooding that will erode vulnerable beaches and threaten property from the Jersey shore to coastal Massachusetts.

The big picture: The storm is expected to rapidly intensify as it moves from the Carolinas on Friday evening to a position south-southeast of Cape Cod on Saturday. A total of 75 million people were under some form of winter weather alerts as of Friday afternoon.

As the storm moves north, it will bring a swath of extremely heavy snowfall and strong winds, with one to two feet of snow or more forecast to fall from coastal Virginia to eastern Maine.

The highest snow totals are expected in Massachusetts, where Boston is predicted to see at least two feet, with up to 30 inches in parts of the metro area, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). This event may become the biggest snowstorm on record in Boston.

Homeowner tries melting snow with flame-thrower, sets house on fire

The Seymour Fire Department put out a fire on Walnut St. on Saturday night that was caused by the homeowner attempting to melt snow with a flame-thrower, responders say.

At 5:37 p.m., the Seymour Fire Department was dispatched for the reported structure fire.

Upon arriving, dispatch quickly discovered the cause: a flame-thrower.

The homeowner attempted to melt the snow from this weekend’s nor’easter with a flame-thrower and accidentally set the siding on fire. Flames were also found in an exterior wall. The fire was swiftly knocked down before they were able to enter the house again.

Next winter storm will stretch over 2,000 miles

As the second winter storm in less than a week sets up across the country, 21 states are gearing up for a blast of winter precipitation and dangerously cold temperatures.

More than 90 million people are currently under winter weather alerts stretching from the Rockies to New England -- over 2,000 miles.

The biggest impact will be in the South, where a crippling ice storm is likely. Places including Dallas and Memphis, Tennessee, could see icy roads and power outages amid dangerously cold temperatures.

Parts of the Midwest could see over a foot of snow; potentially the biggest snow in a century for some.
