It's been a brutal 2 weeks for the Caps and the fans, they need this one. And a game like this will only make the Rangers more desperate to overpay for a Patrick Kane rental. For the Caps, a win today and tomorrow puts them in the second wildcard spot. I'm not getting carried away - I know this team is flawed and needs a major retooling. But they're not dead yet. He's making money with a teammate chasing the all-time goal title and could help him make it. And he's making a strong case for keeping him today. The question is whether we can afford him now. But also, another thing to consider is that at the end of the season, he'll be a UFA. Which means that even if we trade him away, he can sign with any team... including The Capitals. He could always work out a hand-shake contract with GMBM to go pursue the cup (remember that he wasn't with us when we won, so he doesn't already have his ring) this season, and then sign back on with us in Free Agency. Everybody wins that situation: He gets to go for the cup, we get picks, and then he comes back to us next season. Plus, the Caps need to get younger. Everyone wants to trade players but maybe bring them back for what reason, I have no idea. The Caps haven't been good most of the season and all the UFA are 30+. Ekholm, who in my opinion Jensen is somewhat comparable to, just brought in a nice haul for Nashville.
