Just look at this article to see how bad we had it before our run: https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/nationals/2019-nationals-injury-timeline-lengthy-list-seemingly-grows-game This year, besides having to replace Rendon, Soto isn't playing and now Howie is dealing with back tightness. On top of that, the new pieces haven't really found their places in the lineup yet. The offense is a mess and I don't see it improving until at least Soto comes back.
