Tough situation.  Sanchez high pitch count forced early relief but Nats bullpen is not very deep ...hard to pin on manager

The lineup blew the game in the 4th and then Corbin nailed it shut.

Time for an absolutely exhausted Max to desperately carry this embarrassment for six innings and hope it's enough.

That is exactly why you cannot blame Davey for bringing in Corbin. This bullpen is a joke. Again, up 0-2 and can't just throw a strike.

Corbin wasn’t even bad. Hit his spots most of the time. Got ahead in counts. Combo of bad luck on weak hits and just good jobs by good hitters. This nonsense about it being a mistake to bring him in because he was bad in game 1 (he wasn’t) is just that... nonsense.

He shouldn't be absolutely exhausted. PItching tomorrow means he's on five days rest, one day more than normal. Even if you account for pitching one inning Game 2, the extra day off should make up for it.

Win tomorrow and we get Stras in Game 5 to add to his legend.

when you have a ****ty bullpen, these things happen. it was not realistic to think something that has literally plagued us all season would not rear its head when it matters most

Burning up your starters for long relief appearances is playing with fire.  And if you're scared of your pen, why not leave your starter in when he's dealing and his pitch count is still good?

Throwing a starter out there in a relief appearance and letting him drown is just mismanagement.

Leaving Suero out here to drown when you've got a fresh pen is also mismanagement.

I have a feeling he's going to get shelled. How long can  they expect to keep this up with the shaky pen and spotty hitting?

His OPS the third time through lineups is horrendous and they were already going yard on him.

Corbin and the offense screwed the season, not Davey.

Sanchez has horrible numbers the 3rd time through an order

Lord knows I am not Martinez's biggest fan, but he did nothing wrong tonight. Managing with our bullpen is like a boxer with a broken hand. You can still throw the punch, but its going to hurt bad. You have to try experimental **** because standard practices are no longer an option

Ha maybe, but he was done and the point still stands.. that stat is useless and I wish they'd stop using it for any justification

I do agree with you W/L record for individuals in a team sport is beyond moronic. Hate it in MLB, hate it in NFL, etc.

Sanchez was already at 87 pitches and their bats were starting to come around. The Nats have no pen (see Suero). Corbin failed and creates a cascade failure.

in large part, baseball has reduced its importance. Pretty much since King Felix won the Cy Young with like 12 wins that one year.

people who know the game dont put much stock in that stat, its mainly a talking point for old heads who dont want to move on. Saves is going the same way.

Sanchez’s numbers third time through the lineup are not good.  Muncy had homered.   The Dodgers aren’t taking chances with Ryu eilther

You still have to use them though.  That's what they're here for.  I understand they suck and are difficult to trust, but you still have to do it.  Being afraid to micromanage the pen and avoiding doing so is a loser's approach in the postseason.  How can you win that way?  Using starters for long relief appearances is not what they know and it kills you twice over when they struggle.  We didn't get burned by it before, but I don't think you should do it unless it's an elimination game or else your pen is worn out.
