Like 3 faces I don't recognize. Could be the basis of an online quiz. Is this a real Democratic primary candidate?

John Oliver did a bit on this on Last Week Tonight. While discussing how crowded the democratic field was getting he showed a collage of them all and then after a few seconds pointed out that it was so crowded you didn't even notice that one of the candidates with a pic in the collage was Steven Tyler of Aerosmith lol

Tbf...even Steven Tyler couldn't identify himself out of a large group. I mean...unless he's the only grandma in the group.

One day there will be a left-leaning Democrat who can be successful at messaging and not succumb to the labels they are given by the GOP which in turn makes them abandon half of what they are campaigning on.   We've been over this before but for all the "I would never vote for a socialist" stuff being said, the same people sure as hell seem to support the actual policy positions of said "socialists"  It is just more an example of people being tuned out or just being fed misinformation.  Basically the right-wing's version of identity politics.   Trump supporters sure enough cheered extra hard when Trump was campaigning on "the gov't should take care of health care"

For the 2020 election specifically, I really don't care who the nominee is.  Any of them are better than a career criminal turned reality TV host turned President.  However in the future, as the Democrats as a party begin to shift, they need to get their messaging down.

Give it 9 years,  by the 2028 election. The millenials and post-millenials will be the majority voting block by then. That's when a Sanders type could win.

Milwaukee beat out Houston and Miami for 2020 Dem Convention.

If I were a Democrat I'd be worried due to people like AOC and Omar.  They're taking things to a new level we haven't seen before.

I dunno. What did Omar actually say? I thought she said something like "Israel is greedy/all about the money" something like that.... Israel isn't really helping being the region together and is basically antagonziing palestinians. Not racist.... Personally, i think republicans should be all about not giving special tax breaks to companies like Amazon... so again, what AOC said regarding the NYC project is fine, no one complains when someone calls out an NFL owner for wanting the local governments to help build a stadium... and on breaking up Amazon, (or other large companies) i was somewhat against it but her arguments for it are pretty well thought out.   If some of the democrats would give up on amnesty for all and "taxiing the evil rich people till they are poor" i think they'd get a lot more support.

I'm not sure Pelosi and Schumer know how to handle them yet.  This was quite evident with the passing of the "hate" legislation last week.  It should have named Omar specifically but they chickened out.  Sad.

Indeed, I saw an interview with Warren where she played the "both sides" card...

It wasn't that blunt, but that is certainly the gist of a lot of what democrats propose....

Oh.  I guess it was those pesky quote marks that threw me off.

So can you point out where this proposal has been made in a less blunt manner?   (And I hope you know how much it pains me to have to defend the Left.)

For example...

I would also argue that whenever the say "demand the rich pay their fair share" because the truth is rich people already pay a lot of taxes and are, as a point of fact, paying "their fair share"... I agree they should pay more than their fair share, but acting like they are not paying their share implies rich people are stealing from the poor. Eg, Demonize.

1.  We need to do something about how this site blocks bad words.

2.  I didn't see any part in that article where she (or anyone else) has suggested taxing the rich until they're poor.  Could you do me a solid and quote that specific part please?  Thanks in advance.

Lol...great op-ed.  Look at this sweet quote!  😂😂😂😂

These days most “dark money” goes to liberals and progressives, not Republicans, the alleged party of wealth. Do Democrats really want to destroy the billionaires who bankroll their movement?

You are entitled to your opinion on what a wealth tax is. I am entitled to mine.

Your opinion?  Based on your own article, her tax wouldn't start until assets hit $50 million.  So are you saying she would tax them until their assets are $49 million and that is considered poor?

I'd kill to be that poor.

Really?  That's the hill you're gonna die on?

You could always just admit you grossly over-stated the position of even the most far-Left Democrats.

This is so much the problem today.  Instead of arguing the merits of, what are they called........oh yea, facts, we just use gross hyperbole that makes the other side look worse.  Who gives a **** if it isn't even close to true!

Please, can you even make an attempt to defend this opinion?  Getting called out on being just straight up ****ing WRONG and spreading lies can't be hidden by the veil of calling it an opinion.

Hillary had one thing right when she mentioned the basket of deplorables.  Do you all have butter and rolls in that basket?

You shouldn't demonize people that are successful. Or pretend like they don't "pay their fair share" or campaign on continuously taxing them 3 or 4 times on the same money. So, tax them till they are poor. Yes. But, my main point in the OG post was that some of AOC's ideas weren't terrible.

You should read up on Warren Buffett's adjusted tax rate compared to his secretary.

Can you tell us what Warrens’s propsed tax rate on wealth over $50 million is. As in, she wants income in excess of $50 million taxed at what percentage?

The whole idea of “fair share” is ludicrous anyway.  This is a democracy and when the majority of Americans recognize that the wealth structure is out of balance and the country is running huge deficits due to declining tax revenue, we are entitled to vote to raise taxes on the wealthy...particularly if they have spent the last 30+ years acquiring massive fortunes while paying historically low tax rates.

”Fairness” has nothing to do with it.  We’re talking about the health and future of the nation...period.

She wants an INCOME tax AND a wealth tax. A wealth tax is IN ADDITION to the income tax.

Eg, you paid taxes on the income you made each year for the past 10 years, and you saved enough money, bought a house, whatever, and now your total assets are over 50 million. The sum of those assets are taxed (at 2% - 3%) on top of your income tax for this year.

@thegreaterbuzzette (not terrible meaning, i thought they were interesting but did not have enough information to come to a conclusion)

Well according to the cited article, it was a whopping 2%.  Oh the humanity!  Bill Gates is gonna end up in section 8 housing with crazy proposals like that.
