CNN: 2 Ebola patients returning to U.S.

So we can take his word that he showed no symptoms during his entire trip through all those airports/cities even though he was lying about being in contact with ebola patients in the first place?

No.

However, I'm more comfortable taking what was reported to hospital staff about symptom onset because at that point, he was truthful at recently coming from Liberia.  I also think that if the CDC had any evidence or reason to believe he was remotely symptomatic on his flights they would be closely monitoring everyone on those flight manifests, which they currently are not doing.

The Drudge Report is unbelievable right now.   It's Fear Porn.

The downside of freedom of speech...

That type of "reporting" is just so unbelievably irresponsible.  I wish the FCC would address the crap that's splayed across television at least.  That type of fear mongering is a threat to public safety, IMO.

Come on man. He's not trying to ram his beliefs on anyone, just quoting a Bible verse. :) No need to start up a religious debate in here. Whether one is a believer or not, a few verses and prayers doesn't hurt anyone.

I'm in the medical field and have people closely linked to me who are involved in this work. My sister is a virologist for the US Army. If this gets any worse, no doubt she will be called for help.

Quoting bull**** Armageddon prophecies from the comfort of the couch is disrespectful to the people who are working hard to protect these jagoffs well being.

Easy man.  I was just trying to weather a storm before it breaks out.  No need for anyone to go at each other in this thread like a lot of people do in the others.

I gladly stand by my brother. What a sad delusional response to him simply posting that. If you don't believe don't. Just know that the time is coming.....

Lets not start the religious debate in here guys.  Toss prayers out for everyone involved in fighting this disease both sufferers and all the US doctors, volunteers, etc.  No need to start talking about the end of the world and what not.

It's not aimed at you, but nut jobs deserved to be called out. This kind of thought process can be really really dangerous in situations like these. You don't want a small segment of your population to actively welcome this as a sign of God.

N.E., I'm not welcoming it, I still have a few family and friends whom are still atheists(still working on them).

Just find this interesting that's all.

But if it makes you feel any better, I'll change my Avatar to Tyrion(but I would be copying visionary).

Bobby Jindal: Ban travel from Ebola nations

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Friday called on the Obama administration to impose a travel ban on flights to the U.S. from countries with Ebola outbreaks.

“We should stop accepting flights from countries that are Ebola stricken,” the Republican governor said in a statement.

“President Obama said it was ‘unlikely’ that Ebola would reach the U.S. Well, it has, and we need to protect our people,” he said. “But the Obama administration keeps saying they won’t shut down flights. They instead say we should listen to ‘the experts.’ In fact, they said it would be counterproductive to stop these flights. That statement defies logic. How exactly would stopping the entry of people potentially carrying the Ebola virus be counterproductive? This seems to be an obvious step to protect public health in the United States.”

Jindal becomes one of the most prominent voices calling for a travel ban, which the Centers for Disease Control and some public health experts have said is misguided, impractical or both.

Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) also sent a letter to Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the Center for Disease Control, asking the CDC to recommend that the president invoke his authority to impose certain travel restrictions.

“The health of our citizens should be the main priority of our government,” said Poe. “Fortunately, there is a law already on the books with the very purpose of containing the spread of diseases into our country. The time to invoke this law to ensure Americans are not exposed to this deadly disease is now, not after the disease is spread even further within our borders.”

Earlier Friday, CDC Director Tom Frieden appeared on the morning talk shows to argue that a travel ban likely would “backfire” and make it harder for health officials to fully root out the virus.

“Even if we tried to close the border, it wouldn’t work,” the director said on MSNBC. “People have a right to return. People transiting through could come in. And it would backfire, because by isolating these countries, it’ll make it harder to help them, it will spread more there and we’d be more likely to be exposed here.”

So, how can restricting travel from infected zones to the US cause an increase of exposure here in the USA?  It can't.  And if POTUS can activate a travel restriction to protect the USA, legally, which he can, then it needs to be done now.  To me it's the obvious answer, the current action or lack there of has allowed it to spread here against our will.

Furthermore, do the majority of the people over there want to be helped?  I keep reading that they think we are trying to kill them and don't want us there and they wont listen and keep further exposing themselves to the virus.

Obviously their government wants us there.  But if the people there dont and wont help us help them, then what other alternative do we have?

I hope this Duncan asshole survives, then they ship his ass back to Liberia to serve time there in prison.  I keep reading how they are going to try and confirm if he knowingly lied.......please.

If you are over there and know this disease is killing people and you are caring for someone that has the disease.  You know.

Pretty sure the people over there want our help.  I've read numerous articles interviewing people on the street being very upset the western world hasn't done more.  Also, Ebola treatment units are at capacity and Ebola victims are left dying outside the front perimeter, waiting for a bed to open up.  Of course there are crackpot theories about this being a virus of ethnic cleansing, etc., but for the most part, Ebola victims and the people over there want help.  That's at least what I've gleaned from the reports I've been reading.

Here's one I can remember reading.

Well they sure aren't helping things by attacking doctors and aid workers while accusing them of bringing the disease on their country/denying it exists http://www.latimes.com/world/africa/la-fg-attack-ebola-guinea-outreach-20140918-story.html
