I’m going to say something controversial today. The whole analytics only shoot a three or at the rim thing, leads to a lot of bad shots in the playoffs. Watching guys dribble into a waiting crowd of defenders at the rim when they could have launched a 5 foot wide open pull up is not good basketball.  We’ve created a situation where low post players shoot from further away from the rim than guards (when not attempting a three)

I'm analytics person in general.  And I think analytics generally fails in playoffs for every sport.  What is the best course of option and what the stats say somebody should do based on a game against the Wizards and the Nets in a game in Nov. has no real bearing on the best course of action in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

(To take it to baseball, the large scale stats on the value bunting that would include a game in May between the White Sox and Marlins really has no value and no bearing on whether bunting up a run in the 8th inning of game 7 of the World Series makes sense.  Similar in the NFL with 4th/3rd down conversion rates.  Using the stats last year from games between the Giants and Commanders to decide if you should go for it in conference championship game is nonsensical.)

But then you get into a case of if you don't do it in the regular season then doing it the playoffs isn't generally going to be successful.  To me if you're a mediocre team trying to pile up as many wins as possible during the regular season to make the playoffs, you should strictly adhere to analytics.  If you're a team that has legit championship aspirations, you have to get beyond the analytics and think about how the game is going to be played in close playoff games and what you'll have to do to execute to win then.  And sometimes that's going to mean not following the analytics.  Telling guys to make mid range shots in the playoffs when they don't do it all season is bound to fail (and make the stats for taking mid range shots in the playoffs even look bad).  Really good teams should recognize that in the playoffs, most 3's are going to be tightly contested and so are shots at the rim.  The best shots might be mid range jump shots, but then actually run some of that in the regular season so their players are comfortable with that in the playoffs.

Just like you can't ask a guy to bunt in the 8th inning of game 7 of the World Series if he's never bunted all year.

After the game, Beverley wouldn't allow ESPN journalist Malinda Adams to ask him a question in a group interview in the locker room. He said it was because she didn't subscribe to his podcast. Beverley told her to get her microphone out of his face then eventually asked her to leave the interview circle.

On his podcast Wednesday, Beverley said he had asked that of reporters who interviewed him ever since he launched his podcast. Beverley said he told Adams that "it was never my intent to disrespect you."

the NBA is getting far too lenient with players going at it with fans. The fact that they bundled his being rude to a reporter with his assaulting a fan is disappointing. He hit a woman with the basketball for no reason, and then when he got it back, hit another fan with it. This in my opinion is far worse than being rude to a reporter. Not saying that was ok, it wasn’t, but being rude and assaulting paying customers are not equivalent.

That they only suspended him 4 games is unacceptable.

Bob Myers is so overrated. Could have gotten Ant but nope. Drafted a bust instead.

Are you referring to James Wiseman?  Anthony Edwards went first overall in that draft to Minnesota, so Golden State couldn't have drafted him.

I didn’t like the Mavs chances tonight but when Luka gets some help they’re tough to beat. Bet they regret letting Brunson walk though. They don’t get enough criticism for that. He’s a far better player than Kyrie today.

Not going to get carried but lol. Miami did win a game.

At risk of incurring some ribbing from @Die Hard when the Celtics win this series in five, the celtics can be inconsistent in the post season. Won’t matter against the Cavs. Will matter against that Minnesota buzzsaw.

Article came out saying Wolves actually tried to switch position with the Warriors but Warriors said no because they wanted Wiseman.

Especially given the contract Brunson was willing to sign initially. It was for like $12 million per over 4 years. Dallas messed that up.

Knicks had tired legs at the end of the game. Pacers should run them out of the gym on Sunday afternoon. All those minutes might be catching up to the Knicks just a bit.

Wolves need to keep it close and chip away little by little.

Wolves defense looks a lot different when grabbing on screens, hand checking, and running into driving players gets called.

The refs set the tone early that such defense wasn’t going to fly and Murray suddenly looks like Murray again.

NBA has to change the replay system for clear out of bounds mistakes. It shouldn't cause a team to have to challenge let alone lose a timeout. Ridiculous.
