Does Rob Jackson make Orakpo expendable?

I don't know why don't you ask Matt Cassell. You're comparing Apples and Oranges again.

Because that's where the "debate" has gotten, it's ridiculous and I am going to point out as irrelevant comparisons that have been made here. People have their opinions, cool... Trying to haggle all day long over the past and all these "what ifs" is for the birds. I'm sure our coaches are completely onboard with the mindset that whatever was last year or the years before matters....

Oh wait, they nor any realistic fan are. It's the here and now, which Jackson played very well- proved he CAN catch and make a play. People want to dig up stats and kick a dead horse, he had 29.5 sacks over the course of 3 years... So I use a stat and show how in one play in a second string, practice squad, hasn't made the team in 5 years, blah blah blah blah blah... Actually CAUGHT a ball and has more INT's than their future HOF"er's career.

Continue on with a constant kicking of a dead horse and bleeding your man-crush gets a response with as much care.

It's pretty simple. Snorfle guffick blemph, and if you stop and look at the reality of gizloople scrunt taboorri and notice that we have kerpoppled dervistenplud the meepstedat in the past, it's hard to argue. People like to just colergizput.

Quoted for truth. That's Jumbo, always right to the heart of the matter.

Can we just enjoy the fact that, for at least one more year, we can have our cake (Orakpo) and eat it too (Jackson) for reasonable cost?

How can you say that? In 1979 gas was 2 blue crayons and a twizzler. DUH

No, I think we should take who is a defensive end and pass rush specialist and put him back to his original position where he could excel and where he belongs. RAK could have been another Dexter Manley if he would have been put in his original position, instead of made to chase around and try to cover WR's and TE's.

More proof Haslett is a complete idiot.

Just so I understand, That wasn't the Patriots in the Super Bowl last February? FYI...These are two completely different situations. The Patriots were up against it financially (The Skins will have $18Mil of space whe B.O.'s deal expires) and they had other starters' contracts coming due (See: Wilfork, Vince). On top of that, they fleeced an old man in FUBU gear and a wax pencil from the Jack Tatum days. :cool2:

I never said anything about the state of the team. Their defense though, has been pretty bad since they got rid of Seymour.

Rak played linebacker in the 4-3 under Blatche. When we drafted him Zorn, Cerrato, and Blatche put him at LB.

People tend to forget that he played defensive end AND SAM linebacker his rookie season. Rak was always a hybrid guy, even coming out of UT he was described as a tweener.

I feel like I'm one of the few that has been overall disappointed by Rak's production. He seems like a guy with the size and speed to be able to be putting up big numbers but is still struggling to adjust to the 3-4 OLB. Then I see a guy like Aldon Smith just tear it up last year, and to a lesser extent, Rak's teammate #91. Rak seems to only have one rush move and if that doesnt work than he cant get to the QB. With all that said, I still think the guy is a talent and I DO believe he can improve.

You do know that almost every player in the 49ers front seven is superior to ours ?? Aldon Smith was not getting double teamed last year. Most likely wont this year. Just Smith eats babies

if anything I would trade jackson, especially if he has a 10 sack season an plays light's out get a 3rd or 4th rndr would be nice!

How about we keep rak and jackson and rush all 3 on passing downs ?

Oh I know...no debating they're superior. Just stating that he as a rookie already seemed to make the transition much easier, as did Kerrigan. I have nothing against Rak and think he is a fine player, just not that 12-15 sacks a year guy everyone was hoping/expecting.

Can't argue with Aldon's sack numbers but. He was a situational pass rusher however. At this point he is not the complete LB Rak is. Not saying that he can't be but literally all he did last year was pass rush. It's hard to say how good Rak was going to be this year but he was flashing A LOT in the 5-6 quarters he played.

while i agree with your statement about haslett, rak was already a LB in 2009, a full year before the new coaching staff. blame greg blache for putting him as a OLB in a 4-3

This response is less a response to you and more to this thread, but why can't we be happy with a fine player? Even if he isn't the dominant pass rusher we were hoping for. Why are we on ES always looking to get rid of somebody?

Chris Clemons.

Just saying.

Yeah it's like we are the new Cardinals in the NFCE, lol. Players repeatedly leave and become Pro Bowlers or at least start for several seasons elsewhere. Orakpo would end up on the Pats, Bears, or Chargers and have 2-3 15-20 sack seasons in a row.

1.We already dangled Orakpo when trying to trade with St.Louis this offseason.

2.Orakpo will be a FA after 2013 so time is now to figure out what you have in Jackson

3.Teams like the Steelers let LBs walk and have replacements all the time

4.Kerrigan is playing like our best LB right now. How much do you pay Rak when Kerrigan will need a deal shortly after? Bruce has already shown he wont just overpay to keep people. Best LB will be the highest paid LB.

5. Jackson over the years has always came in and produced so sunday was not a surprise.

6. People in the organization have wondered what they really have in Jackson

7. How much if any is Jackson a fall off from Rak has already been discussed at length in Ashburn,

8. Anyone notice how quick the team removed Orakpo from redskins.com backround once he was injured? A day later they had London up there.
