deejaydana
424) My Old Addiction**---k.d. Lang ***here's a great tune, a cover of an earlier song from the early 90's. For some reason they retitled the name from "Chet Baker's Unsung Swan Song" to My Old Addiction. k.d. Lang has just a voice that can stand with any contemporary singer imho. Her voice is really the star of this song but the lyrics are really strong also.I don't know where you place this song regards genre (not that this really matters ultimately). It could be jazz I suppose. It's mellow but great nonetheless. I might get mocked for including this artist. So be it. I think she's just a great throwback to an earlier era of singers. Google the lyrics if you can---they're great. The title and the theme are supposed to be conveyed from the thoughts of Chet Baker, who was a wonderfully talented jazz player from an earlier era but also, like a lot of musicians, just terribly afflicted by drug use. Hope you enjoy it.

deejaydana
Agreed, djd (as usual with musical topics ). Was hoping maybe I'd get one to yah that you didn't know! I shoulda known better. I think this one hit me from the first listen because I have a family member who went thru some just terrible, terrible years of addiction. Thanks goodness he came through it all in the end. My old addiction Changed the wiring in my brain So that when it turns the switches Then I am not the same So like the flowers toward the Sun I will follow Stretch myself out thin Like there's a part of me that's already buried That sends me out into this wind My old addiction Is a flood upon the land This tiny lifeboat can keep me dry But my weight is all that it can stand So when I try to lean just a little For just a splash to cool my face Ahh that trickle turns out fickle Fills my boat up five miles deep My old addiction Makes me crave only what is best Like these just this morning song birds Craving upward from the nest These tiny birds outside my window Take my hand to be their mom These open mouths would trust and swallow Anything that came along Like my old addiction Now the other side of Day As the springtime of my lifestyle Turns the other way If a swan can have a song I think I know that tune But the page is only scrawled And I am gone this afternoon But the page is only scrawled And I am gone this afternoon

Going Commando
425. Bold As Love - Jimi Hendrix This is by far the best recording of Bold As Love IMO. It's an instrumental outtake that wasn't released until 2000. It's my favorite piece of guitar playing from Hendrix. Careful listening to this. You might have to change your pants after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-2RsW0YeZo
mbws
426. Sleepwalk - Les Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH8vjxFIUC4&feature=player_embedded#! I know it was written and released in 1959 by brothers Santo & Johnny Farina, but Les had a way of making any song he played so emotional. Still like the original, but Les is More! Captain Wiggles
427. Cello Suite No. 1 in G major (Prelude) - J.S. Bach I prefer hearing it played on a classical guitar though.

Nice. That's really pretty. He really plucks out those notes in a way that's somehow visceral and smooth. It's almost like a pizzicato thing. Mr. Sinister
This is more than likely my last song, unless this thread goes awhile without getting bumped. Figured I'd go with my favorite genre (house) 428.) 69 Percent - Marshall Jefferson & Serge Imhoff 69 percent...great way to live life. Not too high, not too low. Mr. Sinister
Oh SNAP!! You took it back to the old school house music. Schweet!! Yessir. I had to make sure that true house is represented. Although there is a lot of good house still out there today, this is house in it's purest form. You can't beat that. Absolutely sick song. Perfect progression. Jumbo
429. That's Life---Frank Sinatra If I'm annoying by going too often, I apologize and this will be my last. I caught the end of an old movie and thought of this song. It really seemed he, his genre, and this tune, should be in here, especially given the last word of the thread title. Seconded. Looking back on my list, I think I did okay. I probably should've swapped out Daylight (Coldplay) for Speed Of Sound, Don't Panic, or Clocks. Oh well...
