Santana_89
He was a decent receiver for us last year and I appreciate his contribution, but some of you are acting like it's going to be such a huge loss In his 10 year career this was as close as he came to posting 1,000 yards in a season. :ciao: Jabbar
Koolblue13
I don't really understand this. He was our most productive WR last year.... He didn't break 1,000 yards as our only WR last year. He became our #1 because of injuries to the couple guys in front of him. Those two are healthy and we brought in two in front of him. He would be our 6th or 7th WR and cost #2 money and we have a $18 mil cap hit. Get it?
jivelikenice
I appreciated his efforts but the signing of Morgan sealed his fate here. Its a good move and I'm glad that Shanhan won't allow vets to block young prospects from getting on the field.

HailToTheRedskins14
Not a huge deal here, but I would've liked to keep him. I think he's pretty darn solid. And having a good possession WR, even if only for a year, can help the confidence of a rookie QB. I don't remember too many drops from him. He wasn't explosive, but I think he's well worth a roster spot. This is just based on talent alone. If finance is a reason for the cut, which I'm assuming plays a part, then so be it. Not a huge loss, but I think his play last year definitely earned him a spot. Oh well!
Rypien1191
Garcon, Morgan, Paul, Hank are in...... Austin/Banks/Moss/Robinson fighting for 2 or 3 spots.
DogofWar1
He was very good, but, to put it simply, was made redundant. And considering how Bruce is probably jumping through hoops and doing voodoo rituals to make the cap numbers add up, that 2.65M is big, and his redundancy made that 2.65M too costly. I do hope he finds another team though, and succeeds there for another few years. We set him up for at least a decent contract with another team. Timmy Smith
When the reports first surfaced 10 days ago or so that he was going to be "either traded or released," I groaned. Why would anyone trade for him, knowing he was going to be released? Shame we couldn't have snagged even just a 6th or 7th round pick in like the 2016 draft from someone for him. War Paint
Funny how many fans of teams like the Cowboys joked us last season about not having any weapons on offense, yet today those same fans are wanting to go out and sign Gaffeny because we released him lol. pjfootballer
Looks like the number being taken away hit him personally, so maybe it's not too laughable. It's obviously not the entire reason he was cut, but it was part of it. More of an issue with him and the fans, not the coaches. Like I said, I don't think Shanahan came into Allen's office and said, "Bruce, we have an issue. Griffin wants #10 and Gaffney won't give it up." "That's simple Mike, let's just cut Jabar. Problem solved." Again, coaches don't give two rats asses what number players wear. I think some of our fans have been pretty childish about the number over the last month or so. A number doesn't make a player, but in all fairness to athletes, some of them are pretty superstitous about things like this.
Missouri_Skins_Fan
Garcon, Morgan, Paul, Hank are in...... Austin/Banks/Moss/Robinson fighting for 2 or 3 spots. Disagree.. Garcon, Moss, Morgan, Hankerson are locked in @WR. Austin, Armstrong, Robinson, Kelvin Bolden, Dwayne Frampton, Darius Hanks, Sam Kirkland, Lance Lewis, Kerby Long will fight for the remaining minimum of 2 & maximum of possibly 4 spots available. (some will get placed on PS if eligible --Austin or Armstrong) Niles Paul is moving to TE & will make team. Brandon Banks is specifically a KR/PR specialist and will make team. Redskindon2
Jabar will be snapped up. He's a good chain moving receiver with pretty good hands. Thanks for the season! If Miami is listening to you..they better jump on him cause they got nothing at receiver.
rookieskin
Disagree..Garcon, Moss, Morgan, Hankerson are locked in @WR. I agree with everything except that Banks is guarenteed a spot...... I hear that we are considering utilizing RG3's speed as a returner, and we aren't afraid of him getting hurt cause wee have Cousins waiting in the wings..... SittingBull
I wouldn't be so sure that Banks makes the team. I think his days are numbered if they find a suitable replacement in camp.
authentic
I felt like this was coming ever since his twitter meltdown (not that I'm suggesting that was the reason).Anyway, thanks for the season, Jabar. 1. Garcon 2. Morgan 3. Moss 4. Hankerson 5. Robinson 6. Paul* 7. AA/Austin I think it's possible we only roll w/ 6 and AA and Austin are both gone. More depth at other positions now, and I'm expecting Robinson to take over Banks duties. *I know Paul has been working at TE, but does anyone know if he'll be listed as one or still as a WR? He's a TE now.. but will probably see some WR snaps.... BTW don't forget about A. Robinson. the tealeaf guys say that he could push Austin and Banks off the roster. He's been working his rearend off this offseason. ---------- Post added May-1st-2012 at 01:20 PM ---------- I wouldn't be so sure that Banks makes the team. I think his days are numbered if they find a suitable replacement in camp. see post above... don't forget Aldrick Robinson.... ---------- Post added May-1st-2012 at 01:22 PM ---------- Garcon, Morgan, Paul, Hank are in...... Austin/Banks/Moss/Robinson fighting for 2 or 3 spots. Moss's chance looks good right now, and AAA still has speed. Paul is more like a TE than a WR at this point, so that leaves Austin/Banks/Robinson fighting for that 6th spot.. I'll give it to Robinson. Where did you hear that? This seems highly unlikely and reckless. Guys plan for huge hits on returns because they gather steam. Why would we put our brand spanking new, franchise, 3 1sts and a 2nd costing, QB into a situation where he could easily be concussed or worse? Please tell me you're joking, or that this was some stupid statement by a hack writer on a website.

Rabsuz
I think the front office handled this number 10 business terribly, I don't think Jabbar was cut for his number but it really can be misconstrue as that and I know Jabbar is probably feeling personally insulted right now. I think they could have handled the situation better.

skinsfan1993
It would be so funny if the only reason they cut him now, instead of keeping him through training camp was because of his number...
gbear
Cutting him now is how an organization should treat veterans who come to play for us, especially those who come on essentially rent a player contracts at a position of need. We needed a WR, and he came to play. He did so well, and when it didn't look like he would make our team we attempted to field options from other teams who might have wanted to trade for him to avoid bidding for him. This was always a long shot as the WR position can be filled for less than he was scheduled to make on his old contract which would mean a team would have to overpay against the salary cap for him and give up a pick. When the trade winds were found to be dead calm, the team released him now when he can still catch on with another team without missing any camp time. When it cost us nothing, we let him go to benefit him. It's how any classy business or organization should be run.
