The gay and lesbian community of Minnesota has issued a letter of apology to recently resigned Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch for ruining the institution of marriage and causing her to stray from her husband and engage in an "inappropriate relationship."
Koch, [former communications chief Michael] Brodkorb [who is widely suspected of being the other party in the affair], and their fellow Republicans campaigned this year to put a constitutional amendment on next year's ballot to define marriage as the union between a man and a woman, thus forbidding gay marriage. Sadly, the amendment comes too late to prevent Koch from straying from her own marriage.
The letter:
Dear Ms. Koch,

On behalf of all gays and lesbians living in Minnesota, I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for our community's successful efforts to threaten your traditional marriage. We are ashamed of ourselves for causing you to have what the media refers to as an "illicit affair" with your staffer, and we also extend our deepest apologies to him and to his wife. These recent events have made it quite clear that our gay and lesbian tactics have gone too far, affecting even the most respectful of our society.

We apologize that our selfish requests to marry those we love has cheapened and degraded traditional marriage so much that we caused you to stray from your own holy union for something more cheap and tawdry. And we are doubly remorseful in knowing that many will see this as a form of sexual harassment of a subordinate.

It is now clear to us that if we were not so self-focused and myopic, we would have been able to see that the time you wasted diligently writing legislation that would forever seal the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman, could have been more usefully spent reshaping the legal definition of "adultery."

Forgive us. As you know, we are not church-going people, so we are unable to fully appreciate that "gay marriage" is incompatible with Christian values, despite the fact that those values carry a biblical tradition of adultery such as yours. We applaud you for keeping that tradition going.

And finally, shame on us for thinking that marriage is a private affair, and that our marriage would have little impact on anyone's family. We now see that marriage is more than that. It is an agreement with society. We should listen to the Minnesota Family Council when it tells us that marriage is about being public, which explains why marriages are public ceremonies. Never did we realize that it is exactly because of this societal agreement that the entire world is looking at you in shame and disappointment instead of minding its own business.

From the bottom of our hearts, we ask that you please accept our apology.

What the hell?????

Wow......what a cheap shot......ouch! talk about kicking someone when they're down.

How utterly graceful. Right in time for the holidays - extremely effed up.

You think that this was OK? That was downright sadistic, heartless and completely uncalled for.

:puke:

A lot of my friends and many more that I know in my religion are gay and I cannot believe that they would condone this kind of disgraceful behavior.

This might have been an excellent time to bury the hatchet and reach out to someone who was hurting and try to offer some comfort. Instead, it was an opportunity to exact revenge.

Great job, if that was the plan.

I love it. Think it's awesome. Another in the endless tributes to the extreme versatility and proficiency of conservative-flavor hypocrisy via their cherished embrace of the unassailable link between morality and heterosexuality and their tireless efforts to keep the gays from polluting the decency pool.

Stuff like this makes me smile. :)

I fought for marriage equality in MD the past year + and it's a difficult battle.

Not me, it makes me sad that some people are so shallow, vengeful and catty - perhaps a little mercy and kindness would do wonders to build bridges and further your cause. This isn't how you do it.

The gay community really dropped the ball on this one - way to take the high road.

that was kind of them

I don't understand people sometimes. This isn't my way. If someone is hurting, whether they are friend or foe, it's time to help out - not time to be a schmuck.

You really have to be a conscience-less degenerate to screw around on your spouse.

To do it while trumpeting the sanctity of marriage is exactly the kind of disgustingly hypocritical whoring promiscuity that I would never want influencing my kids.

This woman is the worst kind of trailer trash.

But hey.. at least she was screwing someone of the opposite sex, and presumably someone she knew,, so as far as the usual anti-gay crowd slips go... this is a step up.

It's fun to see the gay community stick it to her like that, but unfortunately the people who would STILL support this trash won't get the irony they're trying to point out.

Yes, no gay person would ever cheat on their significant other.

I don't support her political views - I support her because she's a person who did something dumb, and now her enemies are dancing on her grave. To me - that's pathetic. These people who have done this are lacking in humanity.

Calling someone trash is beneath you, Bang. I really did not expect that out of you.

After this I don't see how she could ever make a religious argument again. Consider what she's done from her perspective as a Christian. She went out arguing that marriage involves God in some way. All while cheating. If you believe in a God you'd have to think that act of blatant hypocrisy to advance her own career would be seen as a terrible insult.

Anyone who sits in judgment of others must face judgment themselves. People who judge this woman - will also face judgment.....unfortunately.

no point, just more snark to go with theirs

I do find it amusing when people try to argue they are entitled to a thing because of others failings.:)

They're entitled to it because they're human beings and citizens of a country that guarantees them the pursuit of happiness.

I find it amusing when people who pretend to be all about America fail so utterly in it's most basic principles.

Check that. No i don't. It's ****ing pathetic.

Her failing has nothing to do with why they're entitled to it.

Her failing is more proof why no one should listen to those who spew hate in the name of religion. Ever. No one should ever listen to any human being who tries to tell anyone what "God" thinks. They don't know, and as is evident, are not worthy of knowing even if that myth was real.

Her failing is more of an afront to the institution of marriage than anything else.

Her failing is an insult to anyone who ever took their marriage vows seriously.

Her failing is yet another on the list of those who demand to tell others what to do when they can't do it themselves.

Amen brother!

I've written and deleted 20 different things easily pointed out.. but it all comes back down to.

HOW hard is it to be nice to others regardless of what trouble they might be in or what they believe.

HOW hard is it to be nice to others by DEFAULT without judging them to be less worthy than you.

Just try it, its Christmas eve and tomorrow that baby in the manger would tell you to be nice to others also.

He spoke UP to people! and they understood.

I might not belive in the 'God on Earth' but i do believe if we acted like Jesus in his interactions with other people we would be a perfect society.
