(Although one of the most surreal sights came when it was first sponsored back in the early eighties by the Milk Marketing Board. Now with cable/satellite carrying Fox Soccer and GOL! TV and the new station coming soon, it'll become more popular in the states.

Gibbs Hog Heaven
This is REAL heartening to read. I don't know if the MLS will ever really threaten the traditional North American sports, but if you could get it right, you'd have one HELL of a cash cow on your hands whomever did. North America is the one great Continent still relatively left untapped as regards soccer. And it could be just be the greatest of them all if anyone could find the key ingredients to making it successful on a scale befitting the size of the Country. Hail. In two consecutive years we've had big soccer games capture American attention. More than ever it's easier to catch a game on TV. I live in rural america now and pick up basketball is nonexistant. Once known as "the cradle of quaterbacks" they keep having less and less pee wee football teams. But soccer is growing. We can't get enough qualified coaches to keep the local academies growing. I see more soccer goals in backyards than basketball nets in driveways.

Gibbs Hog Heaven
Not that I've much interest, but I'm in the house bored so it's on as I type ..... England are currently 3-0 up in Moldova as you'd expect. But I'm confused ..... This #4 with Gerrard on his back, who was sat as a deep lying, holding midfield play-maker the first half, breaking up attacks and setting England going in the opposite direction. Was that a mirage? I mean, reading this thread of late, we've been told he can't play any role other than an attacking midfielder or right midfielder. It is most bizarre and confusing. Maybe it's a dream and this is still part of it, shrugs. Hail.
Kilmer17
Ive never understood why the European Federation plays their qualifying in this manner. Why not eliminate most of the minnows in an early round?
Gibbs Hog Heaven
Ive never understood why the European Federation plays their qualifying in this manner. Why not eliminate most of the minnows in an early round? Some B/S notion of fair play and giving everyone an equal chance in the same format. Forget the fact that you'll have 4 or 5 Nations sat with 0 wins after 8 games. At least they had their shot the same as everyone else. That and the fact more games equals more money. Kilmer my good man, the way UEFA works is a continued mystery to everyone. Hail. *Edit* Point in case, 5-0 England now. Away in Moldova. Hardly breaking sweat. Edited September 7, 2012 by Gibbs Hog Heaven

Go on and hang your hat on this one. ---------- Post added September-8th-2012 at 09:41 AM ---------- and based on this dominate performance by England, we can also deduce that the Lampard/Gerrard partnership works! *ignores almost a decade of it not working* I really want Colombia to qualify for the World Cup. All they have ever really needed was a great striker and now Falcao is there scoring for fun. That was impressive over Uruguay.
Rodriggo
true, Moldova are a great powerhouse of European football. Go on and hang your hat on this one. Don't think he was boasting. Still trying to recover from the 4-0 Colombia hung on us. Having to switch b/w 8 or 9 utter **** streams and our scintillating play, it was a memorable Friday....here's to Tuesday against Ecuador. AsiaticSkinsFan
Don't think he was boasting. he was. Its an ongoing discussion me and him have over Gerrard. I disagree about his qualities as a central midfielder (ie, I dont think he can play it at the top level. But he was a great footballer and was great out wide or as a support striker) because of all the deficiencies he has. Gibbs Hog Heaven being the Liverpool fan he is believes that Gerrard has been a world class central midfielder. Still trying to recover from the 4-0 Colombia hung on us.Having to switch b/w 8 or 9 utter **** streams and our scintillating play, it was a memorable Friday....here's to Tuesday against Ecuador. Calling it now, we don't win. I saw the score and was like wow. That was a really bad result for Uruguay, but South America qualifiers are always dope like that. All they have ever really needed was a great striker and now Falcao is there scoring for fun. That was impressive over Uruguay. Yeah, they took care of business but honestly they're only good enough to be fighting that 4th/5th spot with us. Really should've been 2-0 but Uruguay found a way to make it special. Now we're complaining about the heat when before it was about the altitude....truth is Uruguay has been on the decline since they threw two points out the window at home to Venezuela, almost did again against Peru, then the debacle in London 2012 and now this. Cavani is in dreadful form and he continues to start and play huge minutes. At halftime, down 0-1 Uruguay hadn't played a bad first half. The adjustment was more than obvious...Abel Hernandez for a horrid Cavani and see what happens. Instead Tabarez, the Uruguay coach, changes the line of 5 scheme to a 4-4-2 by taking out a defender who was playing well, Victorino, for a defensive midfielder "Tata" Gonzalez who is completely worthless....5 minutes later, it's 3-0...well done, Maestro. ---------- Post added September-8th-2012 at 10:00 AM ---------- He wasn't Coates play man? Hail. No, he's sitting behind Lugano and Godin...though Lugano, who didn't get included by PSG for Europe is in limbo and his play yesterday reflected it. I mean, not 2 minutes into the game ******* Falcao is by himself in the middle of the area...1-0 Colombia....embarrassing. Coates still has to improve for me....he is "goofy big" and is terrible in space, more than most center backs. ---------- Post added September-8th-2012 at 10:01 AM ---------- he was. Ha! Yeah, you're right...boasting about Gerrard but not about England against Moldova. I misunderstood.
