Chachie
Married with Children pretty much made sure it was OK to be as raunchy as you'd like in primetime.~Bang Yep. That and the fact that the family's not so friendly anymore.
EersSkins05
Dj beat me to it.Cable has changed network television. The wholesome stuff is on kid-centric channels like Disney Channel. Trust me, their programming is so wholesome it makes you want to puke. Very true. When I'm not watching something in my house, the TV is on Nick Jr., and let's just say I hate it. lol I wouldn't necessarily say that there are no family-friendly primetime shows though. The Middle (ABC) is a really good, really funny show that's somewhat like Roseanne in that it depicts middle-america problems and a slightly disfunctional (but loving) family. Modern Family (ABC) is exactly what the title suggests- a family show featuring new and changing family dynamics. Friday Night Lights (NBC) might have the most realistic depiction of a marriage on TV. Granted, there's plenty of stories of teen stress and strife (underage drinking, premarital sex, etc) but at the end of the day, the primary families involved are very loving. Switchgear
Phineas and Ferb is pretty good. My wife and I watch it with our kids. I can't really think of anything else, the other stuff on the Disney channel is crap.
Sticksboi05
There aren't any. 2 and a Half men and How I met your mother deal with horny womanizing males. They're all on ABC Family now. Family Friendly shows are now sports at night and ABC Family. ABC Family sucks though outside of Fresh Prince. FOX Family was much better. Yeah my family used to watch Family Matters, Home Improvement etc.
Sticksboi05
You could be on to something with the more tv thing. I remember growing up we had our main tv in our family room and one other tv in our play room that had nintendo hooked up to it. So I guess back then there were more family shows on since the whole family was watching tv together. Now that isn't the case. Yup. We had the main TV where we watched all our shows and a TV for the Super Nintendo. We had a tiny kitchen TV to watch game shows together after dinner. My 5 year old daughter actually loves watching the Andy Griffith Show on TV Land too. Too bad the commercials for their reality shows are not appropriate for kids. Chopper Dave
The garden-variety family shows of the 80s and 90s licked chode, and now they're dead. Or they've adapted. Look at Modern Family. It's not not family friendly, but it's not bland and ****ty either. All the shows mentioned in the OP other than Seinfeld and the Cosby were pretty much terrible, and honestly, have you ever watched Seinfeld? The only people in the family it's "friendly" towards are those mature enough for the material, and those too young to understand it.

Chopper Dave
Yeah I watched Seinfeld. I guess its a bad example. I was using it more as it showing a group of friends. But I do remember watching that with my family. See, I have a really objective perspective on it, because I've seen like 3/4 of the episodes of Seinfeld, but I never watched it in its original run, because my parents didn't (they have HORRIBLE taste in TV; as they've aged and I've developed my own tastes, I've started to question how I can even be their child. NCIS? Really? It's like if it's a crappy action/drama/comedy on CBS targeted at people 10-15 years older than they are, they love it). Given we're the same age, I can see how if you watched it as a kid, you wouldn't view it in the light of the dirty, filthy, obscene show that it is. I have plenty of shows/movies like that. Like I alluded to in my previous post, it's not inappropriate if you're too young to get how inappropriate it is.
More Complete
....Friends (also not a family show).... Agreed. Pretty immoral really. The characters stumble through dysfunctional marriages, sexual mishaps, and on again off again relationships. Friends was not for the family. But I did also watch Friends with my family. It sounds like you just watched some non-family friendly stuff with your parents, then. I've DEFINITELY got the worst story as far as that goes, though. Remember the movie Blown Away from the early 90s with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones? Google Blown Away. The movie in question, which is the movie my parents meant to rent, is the first result. The movie they actually rented, and watched almost the whole way through WITH ME, when I was SEVEN, before they realized their mistake and turned it off, is the second result. For those too lazy to Google it, I'll abridge it for you. Softcore porn starring the two Coreys and Nicole Eggert. Yeah. No wonder I'm such a ****ing weirdo. Lombardi's_kid_brother
Riddle me this: When was the last time anyone here watched tv in a group? The last time I watched tv with my parents was 1986, when I was 12. After that, I had a tv in my room with cable. As others have said, there is kid friendly tv now. It's just that no adult will watch it, because it is specifically aimed at a 10 year old. The Cosby Show was aimed at 10 year olds to 80 year olds. That's the difference. Of course, I had access to 11 channels when Cosby premiered. No show is aimed at that kind of audience now. It's all niche television. Dad is watching ESPN in the family room. Mom is watching HGTV in the kitchen. Sister is watching MTV in her room. Son is watching Disney in his.

I mean, the real Blown Away is rated R, so it was like, OK, whatever, cover your eyes, and then about an hour in it was like "this can't be the right movie, but we're an hour in" and about 10 minutes after that, it was like, alright, we're done here. Chopper Dave
Eggert "blown away wallGooglevideo that=win NSFW :obvious: I'll have to google it later for the fond memories. Honestly though, what still baffles me to this day about the whole experience isn't that my idiot parents let their seven year old son watch the vast majority of a softcore porn that they accidentally rented. It's that they obviously meant to rent the real blown away for a reason, and in 1994/1995, it wasn't like Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones weren't well-known stars, and it wasn't like Corey Haim and Corey Feldman weren't known washed up b-movie stars. So how the **** did they rent the wrong movie to begin with, and how the **** did they not, if not instantly notice it was the wrong movie, at least notice within the first, I dunno 5, 10 minutes? I was a Cosby Show Fan and Ireally didn't watch Seinfeld until I was bored overseas back in the day and AFRTS had a 3 hour block of it on. Still liked the soup nazi episode.
