Probos
I think he's a more than serviceable "change up"/3rd down back, just not a work horse type. The new regime should give him a chance to compete for a job next season.
Rhymenocerous
Clinton Portis was averaging 4.0 ypc whent he oline was playing worse, he was injured, and zorn was calling plays. Why are wee trying to get rid of this guy again? 1) He's a team princess. 2) He's too slow. 3) He doesn't practice. 4) He trips over his own feet. 5) He's banged up and overworked. 6) He couldn't break a tackle if David Akers was standing between him and the end zone. 7) He has an above-all mentality towards everyone on the team except Snyder, including coaches and the FO. 8) He doesn't practice. 9) He doesn't practice. I don't know if you mentioned that he didn't practice. But, he doesn't!! Which hurts the flow of the offense. Imo But seriously, as much as I like him, he does look like he lost "It". I think with the uncapped year, this is a perfect time to BLOW IT UP!! I'd like to see a lil bit faster back. Someone that can hit the hole and turn it into 7. DGREENHULK
I've liked what I've seeb so far Ganther is tough and does a nice job of finding cut back lanes...Shanny will love that with his zone blocking run game but at most Ganther is our new BETTS we need a home run hitter back there maybe in the 2nd round and the new guy PJ Hill is like a younger TJ Duckett so the new coach will have some options at HB ...remember Shanny did darft Maurice Clarett lol

REDSKINZ-RIDEORDIE
I think he is legitimate, and I think we should go into next season with him as our #2 back next season, with our rookie RB as the starter.
Mania
I like Ganther, but as a backup. I could also see Bruce Allen bringing in Alridge. Shanahan made the recommendation to Cerrato to pick up Alridge as he was on the Broncos practice squad. He claimed he was the fastest guy he ever saw with a football, of course his fumbling would have to be fixed.
DB44
Loved his hard running ability. Something we didn't see all year! Portis and Betts I think are toast. I'd keep Ganther.
Mad Mike
He's a solid backup but he's not starter material. He's just too slow. At some point we need a true franchise running back.
Leonard Washington
Ganther should hang around during the offseason/preseason to see if he can build on his off the street performance of 2009. I like his running style and if he can get better with more practice, I'm all for it. As of right now he's not 16 game starter material.
Peregrine
I don't think Ganther has shown enough to make him a feature back. I think we need to put a priority on finding someone, and having Betts as the #1 back. Ganther can be a #3, because I just dont see any other teams picking him up if we dropped him. Destino
3.4 yards per carry isn't a starter. That is less than Rock, Mason, and Portis. Then again with Mike Shananananahan coming most likely he might be a probowler in a year or two, hahaha

darrelgreenie
So let's get the debate going-- is Ganther legitimate? Should he be retained this offseason? Should he compete for the starting job next year? I think Ganther is a good back but not a starter. I think that Rock can give us everything that Ganther(and Betts too) plus Rock is better receiver and a great special teams player. Depending on Portis health i would go with: Portis, Rock, then draft a speed back/3rd down back type and spread the carries around.
tex
all i know is this team needs to bring in a number 1 running back because they are currently lacking in that department. Shanahan will find somebody to plug in there.

Chicken Fried
We should keep him as a backup, but I still want Toby Gerhart. He is too powerful to tackle.
Darrell Green Fan
Gaither is an NFL back IMO but not starting material. Honestly guys like him are a dime a dozen. But with this team and it's lack of quality RBs he should make the team and play a role next year. I'd like to see them sign someone like Chester Taylor who can buy us a few years until we have the draft picks to take a rookie RB.
mcarey032
I don't know if he is legitimate or not? I know that with Betts, he seemed to underperform when Portis was healthy. When Portis was out, he seemed to step up his game and play better. Was it because he was getting more reps as a starter and when he is the back up he wasn't getting as many touches during practices? Was it that he wasn't expected to carry the load while Portis was healthy and he didn't have to do as much? All these things were factors when talking about Betts. Betts is a decent third down back, but we should look to upgrade because while betts has been solid, we don't have a guy even like Melwede Moore who on third down who can get us that first down conversion. HigSkin
Ganther could be that change of pace back along with someone, like Aldridge in that scat role. I only mention this because Shanny is coming in here with a zone blocking scheme and seems to make ordinary RB's above average.
Darrell Green Fan
I wouldn't count on Betts. As fantasy football has taught us never touch a RB until 2 years removed from knee surgery. And when you consider that Betts was average at best and getting up there in RB age I'm just not too optimistic about his future.

Betts is a decent third down back, but we should look to upgrade because while betts has been solid, we don't have a guy even like Melwede Moore who on third down who can get us that first down conversion. Betts is physically and mentally a primary-back type, he seems to need about 10 carries to do any good. Yeah, the fantasy I had was CP getting 13-15 carries per game and Betts getting about the same. Most specialists backs are scat backs who thrive on 2-3 carries a game, busting a big one, and/or a screen or two. They may run angry but would never be able to maintain that getting 15-18 carries for 6 games. Also, I've seen short-yardage backs and "slash" guys like Brian Mitchell. Although there are some notable exceptions (Brian Mitchell), few seem to be good at this role for more than a couple of seasons anyway. They either get to be primary (Turner), fade out or, on some occasions, just flame out.
