An executive for an anti-animal cruelty group says her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after she accidentally left him in her hot car for four hours.

Robin Starr, the CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car as she got ready for work Aug. 19. She often took the dog to work with her.

Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.

The National Weather Service says the temperature had reached 91 degrees by noon that day.

The board of the SPCA says it still supports Starr, who has been CEO since 1997 and does not plan to resign. It was unclear whether she would be charged.

Pretty insane how she didn't notice a dog in her car on the way to work, but then again some people will forget a baby in the car.

Thought this was interesting.

Hopefully they will execute her. At least lock her up for a few years.
Wouldn't be surprised if the animals rights people demanded that. We do live in a society that doesn't believe in accidents anymore. Someone must be punished for everything or our bloodlust isn't satisfied.

You're something else.

A month or something ago, a woman who co owned a day care, forgot she had the neighbors kid in the back of her car and it died the same way. No charges were pressed, because it was an honest mistake.

It's a shame, but it happens.

Huge difference between this and taking you dog somewhere like the mall and keeping it locked in there intentionally.

kids are not referred to as "it". I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a dick, but that's a huge pet peeve of mine when people refer to other individuals as it.

as for the story, I think the SPCA, as opposed to PETA, does necessary and for the most part wonderful work. This seems like just as really sad mistake. I know I would be heartbroken if my last dog had died because of something I did rather than because of old age. I don't know why, but I think that if a really old dog died because of my own negligence, I'd feel extremely bad.

that is sad- and what a stupid husband to not tell her. I can't figure out how anyone could leave thier dog or kid in a car- and not know they were there.

It does seem farfetched to not notice a dog or child in the backseat when you drive/get out.

That said, perhaps the car was really a large SUV and the dog was in the back area?

Far fetched? Not at all. My dog goes to sleep in the leg area behind the drivers seat. Not to mention that when you go to work your often thinking ahead and not focused on what might or might not be in the back seat of your car. I personall have never looked into the back of my car unless I'm looking for something specifically.

It is an understandable mistake. It was an old dog and probably laid down and went to sleep as soon as it was put in the car. This one is on her husband for not telling her he put the dog in the car. Accidents are accidents and should be treated as such. We need to cut people some slack for being human sometimes.

I concur. Also the dog was 16 years old, blind, and deaf. The dog was probably sleeping in the back and never made a peep.

Sad story. I feel bad for this woman.

If I remembered the gender I would have used it, but technically, isn't everything an "it"?
If veiled references to Vick are going to be used it would be nice if intent became part of the discussion.

A- not thin

B- Funny

C- Vick earned 100% of it. Get over it.

Agreed. The same goes for the lawsuits.

Then how is her husband stupid?

for putting the dog in the car and not telling the wife. Unless I read the article wrong...

nope, it says he put the dog in the car. I imagine that if he had told her- she would have known the dog was there.

Like the people w/ 6 kids, who go to walmart and leave the baby in the car. The dad had a few kids who needed to pee- so he goes in thinking the wife will get the baby. The wife goes in the store with the other kids and thinks the dad has the baby. How the hell do you forget your baby????
