I saw this show on the Tsunami on History channel this weekend, and they said that the tsunami was caused by this 9.something earthquake in the Indian Ocean. What happened was, one plate was pushing into and under another large tectonic plate... something called subduction.

Anyway, they said that the shift in the plates in the earthquake that caused the tsunami was so large that it actually slowed the earth's rotation making the day longer... in microseconds, but still cool.

what is this talk of the 4th dimension?

from relativity theory

easy way to think of it is if you wanted to meet someone somewhere, you'd have to tell them what time in addition to where, right?

So where (three dimensions of l,w,h) and when (time). so, 4 dimensions

And if you buy string theory add several more

I think you've been watching too much Lost...or Donnie Darko...or I.Q:

We're wasting time! Serve already!

That's ridiculous! How can you waste something that doesn't exist?

Time doesn't exist? Since when?

I wouldn't know. If time doesn't exist, then there is no ''when''.

You hear, Liebknecht? Another crazy theory.

Then tell me the correct time, now...You see, you can't. Because as you're telling me, the future has become the past, therefore there is no present, therefore time doesn't exist!

Zoony said it nicely... basically dimensions are just how we experience the world. We experience length, width, and height... but we also experience it in time. People argue that time is therefore the 4th dimension.
