  1. Just very strange that the transmission completely fails as soon as I get it back from the dealer after extensive engine work. subaru transmissions are usually rock solid. Anyways, we had to go up the ladder a bit. After haggling with the gm, he spoke to a supervisor and now they are replacing the transmission essentially for free. They honored the extended warranty we had purchased (we had croses the mileage but not year barrier). Some very good business practice there and it is appreciated. This is the subaru near the Scarsdale exit fyi.
  2. They are saying that the transmission failire is a seperate coincidental failure from the previous timing belt issue. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed if I were a mechanic and I'd had some young lady's car for 3 weeks and it appeared in the shop right after I fixed it.
  3. 2012 subaru forester with about 117k miles. It was bought new and maintained on time at the subaru dealership. The car broke down a few weeks ago. We took it to the dealership and after a week and a half of taking the engine apart to determine the problem, they said that a bolt had broken internally, affecting the timing belt, and causing some engine damage. After a total of 3 weeks, we got the subaru back. The next day the car broke down and the analysis is that a full transmission replacement is necessary. We have 3k left to pay on the car and it'll cost over 6k just to get it going again. I think it's a reasonable expectation that a car bought new and maintained properly should last more than five years and I feel that the dealership is at fault here, either through their repairs or just a sub standard product.
  4. How is porter doing? I don't get to follow the wizads much cuz I'm out of market but I saw some flashes from his play last year.
  5. Someone needs to make a .gif of the ending there. The Harry Henderson one from their 08'loss was pretty good.
  6. I wonder how soul crushing this game was for the cowboys. Not near redskins level of losses, but it was pretty bad.
  7. Ive wanted to be a soccer fan for a while.. outside of the world cup anyways. I had a talk with a Brit today and decided I am a Liverpool fan. Know little to nothing about them.. but that is now my team for Great Britain soccer purposes. I do reserve the right to change my fandom in the short term.. until I find a team that fits me.
  8. bone tomahawk.. not for the faint hearted. pretty good overall.
  9. No clue. Both have looked pretty solid, especially last night. That run from brown was one of the more impressive runs I've seen in a while though. Has me leaning towards him.
  10. Recency bias in this thread for sure. Lebron is probably the most athletic nba player ive ever seen (he can do nearly everything as well as anyone else in the league), and similarly to mj, I don't think he has an equal in the nba. But we can start the lebron > mj talk when he gets a comparable amount of rings. Being super talented doesn't mean a lot when the guy you are comparing him with ALWAYS got it done.
  11. Sometimes upon reaching movies I realize just how good some of them are.. the prestige is an example.
  12. The reach for his gun is questionable but it seems like he is resisting arrest. But I've only seen the video.
  13. Ive done this a bunch of times. Pork shoulder has so much fat that reheating is pretty easy.If it is already pulled, just toss it in the oven at under 300° until it is hot to eat. I'd put a couple tablespoons of bbq sauce in there with it or just spray with apple juice every so often, but you dont have to. Pork shoulder is very forgiving. Easy to cook (temp wise), reheats well, and freezes well.
  14. Wow. That guy Nigel Farage sounds like a total douche in the last video posted. I understand getting your point across, especially in something that is groundbreaking for the UK (leaving the EU), but acting like that is just bad business.
  15. The UK just landed a haymaker on the EU. If the UK prospers, it shows others that the EU is unecessary. If they allow similar trade to what the was allowed while the UK was part of the EU, it also shows the the EU is unecessary. They essentially have to work against the UK at this point.
  16. Exactly. They will assault the UK in the short term on all economic fronts. It pretty much has to happen if you want a strong EU. I expect this will open up favorable trade conditions to those willing to trade with Britain due to EU stonewalling. The US should be in on it.
  17. Interesting stuff. If I were British, I don't think I'd like the EU dictating what my country does. Yet at some point, you've got to be able to work with other countries and this is a huge slap in the face to the EU and I don't see them playing nice for a while. It will no doubt cause a recession in Britain and likely the EU as well. Can Britain make it through at least a temporary recession until things stabilize? We will see.
  18. Man would love to go to the USA/Argentina game tomorrow but the tix are just too expensive. Don't think I'll get a chance to see this kind of matchup for a while.
  19. Lol. Who is the mvp? Not curry. Been saying that for years.
  20. First time slow smoking on an upright charcoal grill over the weekend. Piece of cake. Came out great and a 10.5 lb pork shoulder was gone in about an hour. We had a whole salmon and had it raw, slow smoked, grilled, and cold smoked over the weekend. Tossed in some fresh green onions and sweet basil along the way. Really hard to beat fresh salmon.
  21. What's the method to smoking on a standard upright charcoal grill? I plan on smoking a pork shoulder and some salmon. Anyone have experience smoking on this type of grill?
  22. I have an offset smoker as well and experience the same leaking around the smoker (mine is a decent Oklahoma joe smoker). It doesn't seem that big a deal to me but I do think a sealant would help keep Temps more consistent for longer periods of time. If you get the fire hot you should be able to easily smoke at above 300° though. For chicken Ill generally shoot for about 350 and over the course of an hour it will drop back down to 300. At which point I'll stoke the fire and throw some more wood and sometimes more charcoal on it. Check the meat and repeat the process. I'm sure there is a more efficient way to do things but this is working for me, it just requires babysitting. Keep in mind "if youre looking, you ain't cooking".. there is a bigtime heat drop off every time your open the bigger door.
  23. Taze, skinsfan is spot on and I feel like you weren't drinking enough during this process. Gotta note though that these are burgers. You aren't in a high stakes cooking comp. Grab a beer and get the coals going and open the vents. Spread the coals out under your cooking surface and throw the burgers on. If the fire feels hot as your standing there and the meat sizzles on the grill you can bet you'll have some good burgers on the way. It really is that simple. There is no need to be a perfectionist in this case. No stopwatch or temp gage either. If you are unsure of the meat internal temp use a meat thermometer or just cut into one of the patties.
  24. I think ive mentioned it before, and though my pork shoulders get rave reviews, the best thing I've cooked on my grill was this recipe while I was doing a 12 hour pork smoke: 1 Cornish hen 1 link of boudin Few dabs of butter Stuff the boudin and butter in the hen. Tie up the legs and throw it on the smoker. Baste every so often with garlic salt, old bay, and a butter mixture (you can add whatever spices you want). Shouldnt take but a few hours if you're at a low temp. Comes out so moist and the skin gets buttery, crispy, and a little smoky. The boudin just takes it to another level.
