The Official Washington Basketball Thread: Wizards, Mystics etc
justice98 replied to BRAVEONAWARPATH's topic in The Tailgate
So they're gonna have $100m in cap space in 2024. I didnt know the number was that high. In theory, they can add 2 max free agents next year. Say, Jaylen Brown and Domantas Sabonis (just pulling names that will be on the market). Or they could build with assets, remain nimble and flexible and supplement with a big free agent down the road to get to the next level. In theory, of course, they're not gonna do any of that. But they put themselves in a position to have options, which is what you always want. But what they'll probably do is use all that cap space to take bad contracts to stack up all the assets we were complaining they didn't get from Beal and Porzingis. They basically had to clear the books, THEN get the assets, rather than clear the books and get the assets at the same time. -
This is like every draft, after the first 5-7 guys, I have no idea who the rest of these people are.

Poole's gonna get off for 25ppg on this team. There's nobody else to carry the offensive load. -

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that 2026 pick swap might be in play. By 2026, this little experiment in Phoenix could be done with. I'm not convinced Beal seamlessly fits in and it all works out. And Durant misses 60% of the games. -
So now, there's all this talk of where Jokic is in terms of all-time centers. But when I look at the center position in the NBA right now, it's him, Embiid, and then a bunch of dudes. When compared to what other guys had to go against, it's not even close. Not any depth to spesk of in terms of all-timers. The 3rd best center might even be Porzingis. Not much in the way of HoF caliber talent to bang and compete against. Of course he's gonna dominate these people. But to be fair, I dont think Jordan had much in the way of competition either and I don't hold that against him. Probably Drexler and Reggie Miller were the 2nd and 3rd best SG during his career, which isnt impressive to me.

Winger has one arm tied behind his back if he has to agree to keeping Unseld Jr on as head coach. You're still not doing it right if he doesn't have authority to make a change if he wants. Now, he may think Unseld Jr is the right man for the job, which would make me question him right off the bat. -
If you don't make a habit of skipping, then fine, whatever. I'll assume something cane up. But when skipping these OTAs is your move, that's a red flag. It's supposed to be business, but hard not to take it personal when they decline your 5th year option, denying you millions of dollars, and don't seem like they have a ton of faith in you. If this was a petulant move of protest on Chase's part, it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm curious why Booker and not Tatum? Booker seems to have even less of a case, IMO.

Tried to give them a shot, but they're a rough listen for me, so I dont. But they appeal to a certain demo that likes their schtick.

The home/road alignment is unpleasant. Don't have 2 consecutive home games until week 17 and 18. And 4 out of 5 on the road in the middle of the season.

Good for them. People said they were crazy, Wembley was too big, etc. I think the biggest crowd WCW ever got was 60k in the Georgia Dome. So AEW could challenge that, if not smash it. -

I think Kremer's been worse. He's getting crushed. Bradish had the one meltdown against the Red Sox, but has been dealing otherwise. -

I oddly actually get more annoyed with who they dont get as an UDFA than who they dont get in the draft. lol -

Bottom line is we have no idea what they were doing. But the fun of the draft is ignoring that. lol -

I love some of these highlights where the guy runs uncovered against no resistance. They had a highlight for Antoine Green and nobody bothers to cover him at all and he jogs off the line to his spot on an out route and catches an easy lob. They showed some legit stuff highlighting his skills, just didn't know why that one was in there. lol The defensive version is the guy being left completely unblocked and having the RB run right into him. -

Seems more like a Heinicke ceiling. You'll hear a lot of moxie and mental toughness talk, because if you're gonna be small in stature, you better have a live arm or run around like a maniac. 4th rd seems pretty high for him, IMO. -

This FO doesn't take anyone obvious, other than Chase Young. I'd pay admission to sit in on their war room just one time. -

It still won't be high enough. I'd be very surprised if, even in the worst case scenario, they're not still in this 14-18 area of the draft again next year. They won't bottom out to wind up in the top 5 or anything crazy like that. Ron's MO is keep the floor at middling (problem is the ceiling is middling too). -

I see no reason to continue with the Chase Roullier experience, other than the dead cap of $8m isn't nothing. I think Gates/Stromberg/Larsen should be your center mix. I guess Gates has position flex at guard, but I don't see 4 centers on this team. That's what makes me think Roullier has to go. The next best cut candidates are Fuller, as you say, but then Leno and Logan Thomas. They didn't draft a Leno replacement, so he's probably good. I still think Thomas is on the table. As far as Fuller, I hope they don't. But his low dead cap makes it plausible. I just don't wanna see a whole lot of Dantzler and Holmes. St. Juste, Fuller, Forbes, roll them out there at corner and let's make it tough on these WRs. And then Fuller can walk after the season as an UFA. -
With this Shake Toney news, definitely puts DE in play I'm the draft.

Why would Johnny No-Trade Clause waive it to go to Orando?
