  1. Quan does not offset Forbes is Forbes sucks but it would be nice to walk away from this draft with at least one plus starter and one average starter albeit at low value positions.
  2. I think if you can get a 2nd and a 5th for Sweat or a 2nd and a pick in 2025, I probably do it. If it comes to it, I can see Toohill as a decent starter who can get you a few sacks, play the run well and play coverage as an extra backer if needed. EDIT: The backup plan is that there are a bunch of starting caliber EDGEs in FAyou can get a for a fraction of what Sweat would demand - Epenesa, Armstrong, C. Harris, etc.
  3. I hear you. The saving grace is that Cody Mauch has apparently been pretty bad (43 PFF grade) and O'Cyrus Torrence wasn't a schematic fit. If the next regime gets to work and fixes the OL in 24 and Quan pans out to be a stud, we won't lament the pick as much as we are now. On the OL, generally, I think we are a stud tackle and an insertion of Stromberg away (with the implication of Wylie moving inside) from having at least an average OL assuming they can bring a legitimate OL coach who can teach them the basics like how to deal with stunts.
  4. Paul and Larsen are inactive on game days. Larsen because Stromberg has passed him and Paul because he lacks “position flex”
  5. I don’t worry about this with Stromberg. He can handle the mental load, he is highly intelligent. Rookie centers should be able to play guard too. Look at Jurgens and Dickerson - both guys are guards who were college centers. The issue with Stromberg playing guard is he doesn’t have the physical strength yet to play it at an NFL level
  6. I really wanted Banks with our pick the whole process (I assumed Gonzales wouldn’t be there). How nice would it be to have either guy? I am getting the sense that Quan is a guy who makes big plays. Had a sack called back in ATL, forced a fumble on teams and showed off that 40 inch vert with that PD. He should absolutely get more PT - not the right guy to take in the 2nd given need but I am intrigued. Hopefully he pays off for the next regime. I see the elite potential Given Gates’s struggles at center, Stromberg needs to show what he has sooner than later. I’d be shocked if Daniels makes the 53 next year
  7. Stromberg is not a guard. The guy is a center and deserves a shot at some point this season
  8. This actually wouldn’t surprise me. It seems that in the league, teams are way more willing to give first time OCs a shot than DCs. The league is littered with retreads in DC roles, probably why Joe Barry has a job. I think the reason why is because so many HC hires are offensive guy who retain playcalling duties
  9. I believe the reason they don’t ask hard questions is probably losing Ron and his close lieutenants as sources and that type of unofficial access. However, I don’t get why some of the guys who don’t break stuff like Michael Phillips don’t ask the tough questions
  10. The most marketable players are the 1 year rentals. Lot of talk about Chase and Sweat and get why but the following guys are options to move as well for mid round value: - Fuller - Curl - Brissett - Samuel The following could bring back low round value: - Any of the three rotational DEs - maybe a 7th or swapping a 6th for our 7th - Charles - if a team has a major injury issue on the interior - Gibson You may argue to just sit and wait on the comp picks but I’d rather get picks sooner
  11. I'm kind of with you. I think with a more aggressive DC who is willing to supplement the front 4 with more blitzes, these guys can really go off. Ultimately, Chase is proving that he is worthy of a top 5-10 LTD now. The issue is if Montez wants that too - I think of him as more top 20. Yes there is something to this. When I look ahead at pending FAs, there aren't many that i want to go pay and spend the $ on. I ultimately think we need to solve our OT, TE and LB needs through the draft https://www.nfl.com/news/top-50-nfl-free-agents-in-2024-tee-higgins-headlines-deep-receiver-crop-pass-rus
  12. The exception is if both come together in a package a la Schoen and Daboll or Lynch and Shanny
  13. He is justified. Ron basically did what Payton did to Hackett without saying it out loud directly like Payton did back in 2020
  14. No doubt in my mind Jay was a better talent evaluator than Ron is. From stuff he has said, he also understands the strategy piece of personnel like taking certain positions certain rounds. It says a lot that McCloughan called Jay a better talent evaluator of any HC he has worked with
  15. Bradley Chubb + a 5th went for a 1st, 4th and Chase Edmonds last year. Your valuation is too low based on how both guys are performing this year. The only X factor is if other EDGEs at that caliber are on the market and the only guy who comes top of mind is Burns
  16. The info on “who gets the tag” is irrelevant. New GM makes that call. For all his warts, I’d rather have Chase.
  17. That Mathis stat is wrong. He did play last year before going down in the Jax game
  18. I don’t think you have to worry
  19. He is a complete troll when it comes to Taylor. Ignore it
  20. Doubt it. Lucas is a good pass blocker. Hopefully he kills it to strengthen his case to start over Wylie
  21. I buy it more if we are talking back half of the first round vs the first half given that the bust rate seems to increase quite a bit at premium positions in the back half. To your point, if one piece can put a team over the top potentially like the Bills with Kincaid, I get that I am generally ok with teams going to town on non premium positions starting with the 2nd. Not entirely related to this - With the Lions specifically, they used their first 4 picks on non premium positions. What is interesting is that the 2 2nd round guys are the ones delivering a lot of value so far (LaPorta and Branch). Campbell is off to a slow start if we go by PFF and Gibbs, for some reason, had just not seized the backfield
  22. The slow start for most TEs is another reason to generally avoid them in round 1 if you are trying to maximize the value of a first round rookie contract. When you pair the lower expected ROI you get in at least year 1 with the lower spread between positional AAV post rookie contract with the rookie deal, financially, it does not make a ton of sense. I feel off ball LB fits this too.
  23. Is Mims your 3rd guy? I really hope his makeup checks out. I’m starting to get as leery of Georgia linemen as I am Alabama linemen.
  24. Better hope his dad wouldn't take a job here in a meaningful way. He was a terrible position coach and DC, which is why he is in the CFL. On another note, you could pair Slowik with Adam Peters. The two spent years together on the 49ers and there is probably a working relationship between the two
