Upcoming and misc. TV shows that don't already have their own threads

The movie version has served us well enough, and the other day I was looking yet again for a place to put an article on the upcoming "The Flash" tv series (joining Arrow on CW), so we'll see if this flies. :)

Once a show gets its own thread, if it does, then related stuff would go there---just like the movie thread. B)

'12 Monkeys' series gets 12-episode order from Syfy

http://tv.msn.com/12-monkeys-series-gets-12-episode-order-from-syfy/story/feature/

Producer of Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis film will executive produce show

By Tim Molloy

TheWrap

Syfy has ordered 12 episodes of "12 Monkeys" based on the Terry Gilliam film starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.

The show follows a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in the present-day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. The drama is slated to premiere next January.

It stars Aaron Stanford ("Nikita," "X-Men: The Last Stand," "X2"), Amanda Schull ("Suits," "Pretty Little Liars"), Noah Bean ("Nikita," "Damages") and Kirk Acevedo ("Fringe").

Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett ("Terra Nova," "Nikita") who co-wrote the pilot script, will serve as co-executive producers with executive producer and showrunner Natalie Chaidez ("In Plain Sight," "V," "Heroes.")

Jeffrey Reiner("Friday Night Lights") directed the pilot served on it as an executive producer.

Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven ("American Hustle," the "Dark Knight" trilogy), who produced the original film, and Richard Suckle ("American Hustle") will also executive produce.

"'12 Monkeys' is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock," said Syfy president Dave Howe. "We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects including the recently announced event series 'Ascension' and the second season renewal of 'Helix' from Ron Moore."

Always loved the film, so this could be good though syfy is so hit and miss, quality wise.

And here's a follow-up on the Flash news:

New Details on ‘The Flash’ TV Show & Its Impact on ‘Arrow’ Season 2

http://screenrant.com/flash-tv-show-series-story-origin-powers-speed-arrow-season-2-crossover

Just yesterday, the announcement seemingly came out of nowhere, and now there is a flurry of new information about Barry Allen’s introduction into DC’s TV universe and his presence in Star City during the second season of Arrow.

Read what Arrow producers Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns said during a conference call on how much we’ll see of Barry Allen, what made the character right for such an undertaking, superspeed, Greg Berlanti’s love of The Flash, and more.

It really started with Greg Berlanti.  The Flash was his favorite character, as a kid, growing up, and he’s obviously been a strong personal favorite of both Geoff [Johns] and mine.  So, when Greg approached us, one day, and said, “Hey, what would you think, if we did The Flash as a spin-off?,” all of us lit up.  Despite the fact that he’s got superpowers, I think there’s something relatable about Barry, of the big seven of The Justice League.  He got his powers by accident.  He isn’t a God.  He isn’t an alien.  He wasn’t seeking this out.  It came to him.  And his reactions to that feel very human and grounded.  I know that’s a word we use a lot on Arrow, but that’s how it really feels.  Oliver Queen is a very dark and tortured soul, and Barry is not.  I think it will be fun to see these two characters together because they both have distinctly different world views while both caring very deeply about right and wrong.

Yeah...Turn looks good to me. One of my newer favorites is True Detective. Those guys (particularly the leads) are doing superb work on that series, from casting of big and small roles to production quality across the board. And with a lot of on location filming and minimal use of special effects---even traditional "obligatory" ones for cop shows, like car chases and gunfights. Plus T Bone Burnett. :)

Excellent stuff.

The LeftoversThe Leftovers takes place in the wake of a global "Rapture"—which may or may not be the Biblical rapture—and centers on the people who didn’t make the cut that are left behind in a suburban community.

The Knick: Set in downtown New York in 1900, THE KNICK centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics.

Should I try to make a "combo" deal here (and re-title the thread) where we also discuss misc tv shows that don't have their own thread, but are no longer "upcoming" and have aired?

Or make a separate "misc tv" thread?

After all, TV shows are a very, very important part of our lives.

Help me decide. I have no orders on this matter, so I don't know what to do.

MTV greenlights 'Shannara' fantasy to series

MTV is moving forward with its ambitious high fantasy show. In a quest to find its own Game of Thrones, the cable network has greenlit to series Shannara, based on a series of popular novels by Terry Brooks. Ten episode have been ordered.

The story is set in our world, but thousands of years after the destruction of  civilization. The tale is centered on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.

The Shannara saga was launched in 1977 with The Sword of Shannara. With about 25 books in the saga, it’s estimated to be the most popular fantasy book series in the world that hasn’t yet been adapted for film or television (Warner Bros. previously got the rights to develop a film based on the books in 2007). Producers plan to base the show’s first season on The Elfstones of Shannara, the second novel in Brooks’ series, a title the network describes as “a fan favorite which spent 16 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and is accredited with cementing the series place in the fantasy world.”

Yet behind the scenes, there’s a change in the project from its previous announcement when it was merely in development last year. Jon Favreau (Iron Man) was originally set to direct and executive produce the series. While Favreau will retain an executive producer credit, MTV says Favreau has a scheduling conflict, and now Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will direct the first two epiosdes and executive produce the series. Previously announced writer-producers Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) will remain on board. Terry Brooks and Dan Farah will also executive produce.

Is this going to be an anthology series?  Because there's a leap of time between Elfstones and the third book in the original trilogy.

And then another bigger leap of time between that book and the next series.

I would have thought the later series with Elf Queen, etc would have made a more interesting and continuous show.

Not that Elfstones and Wishsong aren't great books though.  I just wonder how they will adapt them into one show.

Danny McBride and Jody Hill, creators of Eastbound & Down, will be doing a new show called Vice Principals.

They will start shooting in NC in the spring for a premiere date next fall.

Any Kenny Powers fans should be happy. :)

Sounds awesome. Vice Principals? Oh man lol

Simpson case to launch FX's 'American Crime Story'

The FX is joining with "American Horror Story" producer Ryan Murphy on a true-crime anthology miniseries. First up: the O.J. Simpson murder case.

Each season of the miniseries, "American Crime Story," will focus on a different crime that captured the public's imagination, FX said Tuesday.

The 1994 murder of Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman, and Simpson's arrest and trial led to a prolonged media frenzy. The former NFL hall of famer and TV and movie star was acquitted in the case but is in prison for a hotel robbery.

FX did not announce the casting or air date for season one of "American Crime Story," based on a book by lawyer and TV legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. The fourth season of "American Horror Story" begins Wednesday.

I'm a fan of David Lynch and am really excited to hear Twin Peaks is coming back for a min-run on Showtime. Grantland has had a few good articles about Twin Peaks over the past few days. I'm not sure how it will turn out, but it definitely will be interesting to see.

No effing way!!!  Love me some Lynch.  I've seen 4 or 5 of his movies, he's a friggin genius.  I've seen the TP movie, never watched the show though, I'll definitely tune in

If you like Lynch's movies,  you should definitely watch the start of the series. You'll want to keep watching.  It did eventually meander off into less interesting paths and sort of fizzled out. I thought the movie was a bad attempt to wrap everything up in a tidy, little, disappointing bow. I am slightly skeptical of this, but also really think it has potential to be awesome. Showtime said they'll also be rebroadcasting at least some of the original series before the premier in 2016. I know it's on Netflix too.

It was considered significant news when an Amazon original series won a Golden Globe award (Transparent). Looks like they're keeping their foot on the throttle.

Woody Allen to Create His First Television Series for Amazon

Amazon Studios has signed Woody Allen to write and direct his first television series.

The “Untitled Woody Allen Project,” a half-hour series, has received a full season order from Amazon, with episodes to be written and directed by Allen. The series will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the U.S., the UK and Germany.

“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series,” said Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios.

“From ‘Annie Hall’ to ‘Blue Jasmine,’Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”

Added Allen, “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”

Looks like Fox wants to bring back X-files.

http://io9.com/fox-wants-to-bring-back-the-x-files-david-duchovny-and-1680262280

Seems like that's going to be very hard to capture that original magic of show.

Maybe FOX show should stick to original new programming.  They can find some good shows.  Sleepy Hollow and Gotham are 2 examples.
