Without reading through the past 50 pages of this thread, who is Sarah Hogan and what the hell is a "Coaching Chief of Staff?" Is this some sort of publicity stunt by the team to appease to remnants of Dan's anti-female/sexist reign, like when they stuck Donaldson in the radio booth?

i asked and got an answer.  Basically the Admin Assistant/Office Manager.  I know in my office the Admin assistant is the MVP she keeps track of all the minutia the rest of us cant  cause of our other responsibilities

Not at all. An article was posted detailing what she does. It’s a mixture of executive assistant, travel agent, facilitator, and fixer. She’s legit and other teams have this position or a similar one. In fact she already pioneered this job with Dan Quinn once in ATL. A key part of letting coaches and assistants across the league just focus on football, these sorts of position in high stress environments are crucial imo. And she specifically seems to be very good at her job and has a comfort level with Quinn

Yeah, it sounds like from the title that she's going to be putting on a headset and scheming up defensive adjustments at half time. My office manager is also our MVP, couldn't operate without her.

Is she the one Raheem Morris was gushing after he had gotten hired, only to have her come here?

That’s a bit misleading isn’t it. No family ties, but lots of familiarity. Different schemes, trees etc, but lots of familiar faces.

I think if anything its a lot of different folks not tied to each other, unusually so, with some exceptions.  It's what Hoffman and Bullock keep whining about on twitter ironically that they might be bringing too many people from different systems without having enough prior relationships where they are worried about the chemistry.

Pretty funny how it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Hire a bunch of people who have worked together? Nepotism / croney-ism! What Rivera did!

Hire a bunch of people who have mutual respect but haven't worked together? Too many cooks in the kitchen!

I can see that on offense. Not so much with Whitt on the D.

She was on the Falcons coaching staff, apparently Raheem Morris wanted to keep her, but we poached her away.

Chief of Staff, for most organizations, is a person who basically helps coordinate everything and picks up all the loose ends.  When I was at Deloitte, each practice area had a "chief of staff" and it was a big role/title.  Often they were Senior Managers on their way up to Director/Partner.

Typically, you attend every meeting, make sure everything is organized, help out where needed.

I'll say, I've never heard of it on a coaching staff, but it makes a ton of sense to have a smart person who knows football help coordinate everything.  NOTE: It is NOT an administrative position.  At least, that's not the way I ever understood it.

Chief of Staff has become a more popular title in the business world and it can be everything from a Special Projects Manager all the way to a Glorified Secretary. Very case-by-case IMO. But I can see how it would be highly value-add in helping Quinn "keep the main thing the main thing"

…what the hell is a "Coaching Chief of Staff?"

a very important role whose duties include:

refilling coffee

food runs

starbucks runs

dry cleaning

Phone gatekeeper

making copies

sending cryptic messages on social media

monitoring messageboards

breaking up fist fights

side chick management

other duties as needed…

Whitt specifically said that, which I agree with. However I am confident it’ll be cohesive.

Hiring qualified assistants who you’ve successfully worked with before isn’t nepotism. That’s how the world works.

A guy getting an assistant LB coach job or Quality Control opportunity or whatever due to his last name is nepotism. Sometimes those hires work out great and you end up with a Kyle Shanahan. It’s still nepotism, and it’s important to call out who is getting the opportunities—even if they ultimately prove themselves.

Yep I know, it’s this part that is misleading

The Commanders' new coaching staff, unlike the prior regime, lacks familiarity with one another. That's "by design."

It takes a village and everybody's job is important. I'm looking forward to having capable people in the building focused on their scope of responsibilities and helping make the machine sing. On paper, this is the best coaching staff we've assembled in over a decade. Let's hope it translates to results on the field.
