China
Social media companies under scrutiny over false, violent posts amid Israel-Hamas war As war broke out in recent days with a Hamas attack and an Israeli response that has left an estimated more than 4,100 people dead in Israel and Gaza, gruesome images and disinformation spread widely on major social media platforms. From repurposed video game footage masquerading as videos showing military engagements to imposter accounts spreading false information about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to violent and graphic footage flooding newsfeeds -- the fast-moving conflict and the volume of such posts have posed a challenge for social media platforms as they attempt to enforce rules against false or violent content. False or horrifically graphic posts have spread across X and Meta-owned Instagram and Facebook, as well as TikTok. European Union Commissioner Thierry Breton wrote public letters to TikTok, X and Meta in recent days warning them of the indication that their respective platforms had been used for the spread of "illegal content" in violation of the EU's data regulations around hate speech and disinformation. Financial penalties could result from the possible offenses, Breton added. In a post on X, on Monday, the company said it had paid close attention to the outpouring of content on the platform related to the Israel-Hamas war. There had been over 50 million posts globally on the Hamas attack on Israel in the two days after the attack began on Oct. 7, X said. "As the events continue to unfold rapidly, a cross-company leadership group has assessed this moment as a crisis requiring the highest level of response," the company said. "This means we're laser focused and dedicated to protecting the conversation on X and enforcing our rules as we continue to assess the situation on the platform." In response to the letter from Breton, X CEO Linda Yaccarino said on Wednesday that the company had labeled or removed tens of thousands of pieces of content related to the Israel-Hamas war. "We continue to respond promptly to law enforcement requests from around the world," Yaccarino added. In response to a request for comment from ABC News, Meta pointed to a statement released by a company spokesperson after receipt of the letter from Breton: "Our teams are working around the clock to keep our platforms safe, take action on content that violates our policies or local law, and coordinate with third-party fact checkers in the region to limit the spread of misinformation. We'll continue this work as this conflict unfolds." Click on the link for the full article

Nothing bad would ever happen if he became a dictator that tried to overthrow this country…. Sorry, I meant president…if it wasn’t the most rigged election ever, by him and his cavfefe catchers. I meant Biden.. oops Russia wouldn’t be attacking Ukraine either. I just wish he was president when we all got COVID. I know he would have stopped thousands of people dying in this country. furthermore, if he was president in the summer of 2020, Bidens America wouldn’t have had any protests. All hail Trump! China
The Secrets Hamas Knew About Israel’s Military The 10 gunmen from Gaza knew exactly how to find the Israeli intelligence hub — and how to get inside. After crossing into Israel, they headed east on five motorcycles, two gunmen on each vehicle, shooting at passing civilian cars as they pressed forward. Ten miles later, they veered off the road into a stretch of woodland, dismounting outside an unmanned gate to a military base. They blew open the barrier with a small explosive charge, entered the base and paused to take a group selfie. Then they shot dead an unarmed Israeli soldier dressed in a T-shirt. For a moment, the attackers appeared uncertain about where to go next. Then one of them pulled something from his pocket: a color-coded map of the complex. Reoriented, they found an unlocked door to a fortified building. Once inside, they entered a room filled with computers — the military intelligence hub. Under a bed in the room, they found two soldiers taking shelter. The gunmen shot both dead. This sequence was captured on a camera mounted on the head of a gunman who was later killed. The New York Times reviewed the footage, then verified the events by interviewing Israeli officials and checking Israeli military video of the attack. They provide chilling details of how Hamas, the militia that controls the Gaza Strip, managed to surprise and outmaneuver the most powerful military in the Middle East last Saturday — storming across the border, overrunning more than 30 square miles, taking more than 150 hostages and killing more than 1,300 people in the deadliest day for Israel in its 75-year history. With meticulous planning and extraordinary awareness of Israel’s secrets and weaknesses, Hamas and its allies overwhelmed the length of Israel’s front with Gaza shortly after dawn, shocking a nation that has long taken the superiority of its military as an article of faith. Using drones, Hamas destroyed key surveillance and communications towers along the border with Gaza, imposing vast blind spots on the Israeli military. With explosives and tractors, Hamas blew open gaps in the border barricades, allowing 200 attackers to pour through in the first wave and another 1,800 later that day, officials say. On motorcycles and in pickup trucks, the assailants surged into Israel, overwhelming at least eight military bases and waging terrorist attacks against civilians in more than 15 villages and cities. Hamas planning documents, videos of the assault and interviews with security officials show that the group had a surprisingly sophisticated understanding of how the Israeli military operated, where it stationed specific units, and even the time it would take for reinforcements to arrive. The Israeli military says that, once the war is over, it will investigate how Hamas managed to breach its defenses so easily. Renegade7
Word in the street is Iran doesn't want a larger conflict, but between rock and hard place if they let Hamas get annihlated and do nothing about it. This is steeming from the reality no expected this attack to be as successful as it was...reminds if 9/11 where it came out they didn't expect the towers to come down or us invade Afghanistan. Mideast teeters on the brink of wider war as Iran ponders its options https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/17/israel-iran-hezbollah-wider-war/ Israel needs to be careful here, as well as Hamas seemingly understood that much about their defenses, it would be equally shocking if they did not share this information with other Iranian-backed militia groups surrounding their country. Would this be the thing to finally turn against him?

NickyJ
The west can sit for a day and wait for Israel to claim responsibility or for them to come up with some sort of proof that Hamas somehow bombed a hospital full of Palestinian people. After that day, I'm curious what the west's response will be. 500 people in a hospital is something awfully huge to just shrug off and call collateral damage, but it's not like they're going to do any peacekeeping themselves to stop it. We don't have to...we could pull our carrier group out the area and put a pause on giving them weapons if it's confirmed Israel actually did blow up that hospital, not Hamas. Not holding my breath, just saying we could stop rushing to help them defend themselves would be a big deal by itself without getting more involved then we already are. Spearfeather
ISRAEL DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN DEADLY GAZA HOSPITAL BLAST, SAYS EXPLOSION CAUSED BY ISLAMIC JIHAD Quote The Israeli military blamed Islamic Jihad, a smaller, more radical Palestinian militant group that often cooperates with Hamas in their shared struggle against Israel. The military said Islamic Jihad militants had fired a barrage of rockets near the hospital at the time and that "intelligence from multiple sources" indicated it was "responsible for the failed rocket launch that hit the hospital." https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc11.com/amp/gaza-hospital-bombed-hospitals-israel-hamas/13929169/
