Most of New England's incompetence in pass block win rate is actually generated from their QB play and scheme, because Onwenu, Strange, Andrews, and Brown are all good linemen who are definitely capable in pass pro.  I'm judging strength for an OL with more weight given to the quality of the individual players on it, more so than their team win rate stats because those can get a bit janky.

Mac Jones isn't good but gets rid of the ball uber fast.  2nd fastest after Tua according to metrics.  Heck I heard Logan defend this defense for not getting pressure against the NE offense by saying yeah its versus NE they get rid of the ball fast, tough to always get pressure on them.

Cleary though some teams do get pressure regardless.  So per what you said, NE is dead last in pass block.  PFF ranks them low, too.  But that's because of their QB/scheme?  And they are an example of why a good O line doesn't translate to success?  That last point doesn't compute for me.

I do agree with your point that an O line ALONE doesn't equal success.  Of course it doesn't.  We've seen that here on and off during the Dan era. You need a Qb, play makers and an o line.  I get your point that they should be better than what they are.  But they clearly aren't this season.  Injuries are part of that it seems.  And injuries kind of help make the point.

It was interesting to hear Logan Paulsen on his latest podcast talk about what he'd want from a new coaching staff.  He mentioned a strong O line. Interesting to hear it from him considering, he's been arguably the biggest defender aside from a few stagglers on the board about this O line being passable.  But he cited the Eagles and they have done a really nice job building it and he'd want that here.

Nothing else will matter if the Patriots’ offensive line stays like this

Weapons, scheme, playcalling, all of it is a moot point if nobody can block.

As it always goes, Mac Jones has taken the lion’s share of the blame for the offense’s current state of “Here lies Beavis: he never scored”, followed closely by the receiver corps that seem uniquely ill-equipped to operate a Bill O’Brien spread-and-shred offense. It’s a lot more fun to blame the pass-catchers for everything, what with the whole “Mac needs his Stefon Diggs/JaMarr Chase/A.J. Brown/insert your favorite receiver the Patriots didn’t draft here” thing, but there’s a bigger problem.

The offensive line, which, to be fair, has suffered a slew of unfortunately-timed injuries and a comical lack of personnel continuity on a game-to-game basis, has made it borderline impossible for New England to move the ball in any form or fashion. They can’t pick up yards on the ground when they need ‘em, and every completed pass where Mac Jones doesn’t get tackled in half seems like found money.

As always, there’s nowhere near as many hard stats for offensive line play as there are for almost every other position in football, but there’s enough signs that are all pointing in the same direction that we can make some pretty safe assumptions.

Starting with this: when the Patriots pass, if you average together the Pro Football Focus grades, Sports Info Solutions’ Blown Block percentage, and ESPN’s Pass Block Win Rate, the offensive line is the literal worst in football.

Where is he projected to get drafted?

"There is a legitimate chance Legette goes from a complete unknown to a first-round pick, even with so many outstanding receivers in this class. Continuing to toy with SEC defenses is about the best way to secure legitimate draft stock." According to Profootballnetwork

He hits me as a slam dunk first rounder especially post combine.  Will see.  I'd love him to drop to the 2nd if he lands at our pick there.

I say there is no chance. I think he’s the best receiver in the class if Harrison doesn’t declare (he will I think). But he’s a stud.

Agree.  If he runs as fast as suspected considered his size and physicality and he plays physical too -- yeah tough for me to see him not in the first round.   If Harrison is out its a stacked 1st-2nd round for that spot, i wonder if that makes some of them fall.

some really good wide outs in this draft . I honestly know a lot in here like Terry mclaurin , but we be fools not to try and nab one of these guys in the draft. Big fan of Malik Nabers out of LSU .

Nabers is very good, too, I've been watching him on and off, I think I like Odunze over him.  But I got to watch the two back to back.  Odunze is so good at the catch point with contested catches even though he's lanky.  He's got sick hands in general.   Nabers is so explosive.

I love this WR class.

He's hyped on this thread including by me more than the average draftnik from what I noticed.  The exception being PFF which seems really high on him.

The more I watch, especially the receivers and O line, the more open I am to trading down everything being equal and depending who is at our pick.

I am not as high on the RBs and I gather TEs than some here.  But the WRs are fun and O line looks deeper than usual.

Darnell Wright went 10th. I think Fuaga is better. We can trade down 5 spots and get some good players, but 10 spots and the dream trade down scenario might not exist.

It's been talked about in the media and MAYBE it might be a ripe time to deal Terry McLaurin and Jon Allen.  We should be able to get some good picks for both players.  If your going to rebuild.  Go big and do it with a new GM and HC.

I've seen Fauga in the late first even early 2nd, but who knows how good the mocks are, this early they typically aren't hot.  I've been surprised from time to time with where players fall.  Combine often is a needle mover that helps budge some O lineman higher.

I don't really have a strong opinion yet on what they should do, I can argue different points for different reasons.

The Legette agenda grows.

Not even close to trying to rank these guys but my initial thought was Treylon Burks 2.0, who I still think is a good wideout just think he is in a bad offense and subpar QB play, which hopefully changes as Levis grows but he is a better prospect than Burks for sure to me.

Mock ranges in December do not mean much. It'll change rapidly once media gets face to face time with dozens of scouts and front offices at the Senior Bowl, then it'll change again after the same thing happens at the Combine. This always happens every year.

Guys thought of as Day 2 are suddenly mid-1st. Or borderline Top 10 are now in the 30's.

I've heard guesses that this years CB rankings and average draft position are expected to fluctuate the most in the upcoming months. I would guess myself, that OT is another for high variance.

Again, just spit-balling now more than anything but WR appears to be the deepest. OL looks good and IMO so are the QB's & DB's. TE, RB somewhat & Edge is weak to me thus far. DL might be pretty good too.

Big WR that are hard to tackle and show YAC ability in college are always getting hype. It usually doesn't work. I haven't scoped out Legette as much so can't comment, just speaking in generalizations.

Me too and I was an ardent DW supporter who wanted the Commanders to take him @16 from way before the draft even process began. Good lord I can't type for :)

Good points. Xavier is impressive but have only watched oh about 13 seconds thus far :) I do like what I see thus far.

After looking at this year's tape on the top 3 projected qbs I would rank them 1a. Williams, 1b. Daniels................ Maye a bigger gap from the top 2 who I could mix in with Bo Nix and Penix. Looking at it from a different point of view with Unique Strengths and what he needs to be succesful for his unique strength/

Williams - Unique Strength is devastating you when you look like youve called the perfect defensive play. His ability to buy time without running down field and directing guys who clearly know to keep running around elite. Someone else here referenced the play where bad snap over head and goes back and flicks it 40 yards down field was a sick play. He will need WRs that understand that he keeps plays alive and to not give up and he actually needs a really good OL for him to keep the initial rush at bay while he does his magic.

Daniels - Unique strength is his profiency throwing from 30 yards or so which I call no mans land as there isnt much room to throw TDs at that distance but he is elite at it with his touch. He will need Tall WRs to play with as he likes to give his guys a chance but he also put its on the money from that distance. He wont need as good of a OL as Williams bc his threat of designed runs will keep the pass rush at bay mostly similar to how RG3 operated before he got hurt.

My consensus is that for our current team Daniels would be the better fit even moreso than Williams bc IF we do take him we are still having to address the OL either with a lesser talent in the 2nd round or through FA.

For the record I would NOT pass on Daniels wherever we pick.

I wouldn't characterize Legette as a YAC specialist.  Metcalf to me is a good comp.  Contested catches AND deep threat because he's fast.

I recall some here were down on Drake London.  Big receiver who majored in contested catches.   @KDawg and I liked Drake.  He's off to a good NFL start considering the crap QB play he's received.  Drake though isn't fast.  Legette is fast.

Legette is a possession receiver who can burn. He is a contested catch monster. He’s exactly what this franchise needs.
