Footage from Jeremy Dewitte’s body worn camera released Thursday by the Sheriff’s Office showed him weaving through traffic at high speeds, crossing into oncoming lanes on two-lane roads, repeatedly stopping in intersections to direct traffic and shouting and cursing at motorists. In one clip, he’s shown pulling up alongside a motorist in Osceola County — whom he described as a “dumb white b---- in a blue car” — and ordering her to pull over while a siren blares. He arrived in Magic City in the 1960s on the lips of Caribbean exiles, who believed that evil spirits and demons invade the weak of heart. Among the pink-colored homes of Miami’s Cuban district, Little Havana, children played among the residues of dark rituals — little piles of cigar stubs, apples and severed chickens’ heads. By 1973, the year “The Exorcist” horrified theatergoers, it appeared the Devil had decided to settle down, like so many retirees, in Florida. Police and firefighters who raced to the scene found hundreds of hysterical high schoolers fleeing the building as if it were ablaze. The Devil, it seemed, was to blame. In a disturbing case report, doctors revealed the man suffered a perforated bowel as a result and was left critically ill. He had arrived at a hospital in Florida with life-threatening septic shock because of bacteria which got into his bloodstream through the injury. But only when a CT scan was performed did doctors find the tool responsible, which measured 8.2inches long by 1.1inches wide (21cmx3cm). After surgery, the unidentified man needed surgery to cut away rotting flesh from inside his buttock after it became infected. He survived, and is believed to be the first reported case of this kind. (AP) — Like snowbirds, there's another group that's moving to Florida for the winter: sharks. Shark experts say the coast of Florida is starting to heat up with white shark activity. OCSEARCH, a research group, says the annual migration to warmer waters off the Florida and Carolinas coasts is underway. The Palm Beach Post reports that eight white sharks tagged by the Utah-based research group were spotted from New Jersey to Florida in the last week. Three other sharks that had been tagged were detected Wednesday in waters on North Carolina beaches, and two more sharks —Helena and the 2,076-pound Unama'ki —made their presence known with toothy grins just west of Key West in September. The caskets, buried 3 to 5 feet deep, are part of a mid-20th century paupers burial ground known as Ridgewood Cemetery. Today, the one-acre site is open land with one small building, used for the school’s agricultural program. “These appear to be coffins or voids in the soil where coffins have decayed over time,” school Superintendent Jeff Eakins said at a news conference Wednesday. The announcement came during a meeting of the district’s Historical Response Committee, set up in response to news King High may have been built on a cemetery. This is the second time in less than three months that a forgotten cemetery has been found in the Tampa Bay area. David Paul Wipperman, 61, was arrested on Thursday on charges stemming from an incident last month, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. According to an arrest affidavit by the sheriff's office, Wipperman got into a road rage incident with the woman at around 5.40 p.m. on October 29, The Tampa Bay Times reported. During the incident, he got out of his Chevy truck and approached the woman, who was driving a Kia sedan. According to to The Times, the woman had rolled down her window and apologized to Wipperman for her part in the incident—but he responded by spitting the food he had been chewing at the woman. "The food struck the victim in the face and entered (her) mouth," the arrest report said, according to The Times. Wipperman then opened the driver's side door of the Kia and screamed at the woman and pointed his finger in her face, the newspaper reported. At about 2 a.m. on Friday, a man driving across the Courtney Campbell Causeway revved his engine and tried to bait a fellow motorist into racing him. Unbeknownst to the man with a need for speed, the driver he was trying to bait was a Clearwater police officer. The officer pulled over Connor Michael Proleika, 20, of Tampa, and arrested him on a charge of racing on a highway, which is a misdemeanor. Worse for Proleika, the arrest resulted in him violating probation on previous charges of grand theft and possession of a controlled substance, which are felonies. The officer wrote in the report that Proleika revved his engine and tried to “bait” him into racing. Proleika then took off and reached a top speed of 124 mph, according to the officer’s report. An argument began and Ortiz threw beer bottles and drinking glasses. The club’s front-door security restrained her and escorted her to a back room, the report states. As security and the club manager tried to calm her, Ortiz kicked the manager “directly in his genitals, while she was wearing high heel ‘exotic dancer’ shoes,” the report states. “After being kicked, the victim backed up a couple of steps and (Ortiz) reportedly kicked him for a second time in the stomach.” Police officers arrived soon after. They escorted Ortiz out of the club, at which point she kicked the manager a third time, the arrest reports state. About 90 minutes later, a man who had been a customer at the club arrived at the Largo police station to complain about the arrest, though the arrest had been made by Clearwater police. Largo police said Maxime Ducasse Cadet, 48, called their 911 center from the lobby of the station and was slurring his words when he did so. Officers confronted him as he tried to leave in a car. Police arrested him on a drunken driving charge after he did poorly on field sobriety exercises and took a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol count was 0.163. On Friday, the state’s Department of Law Enforcement launched a probe shortly after the ad was posted, WPTV and WKMG report. Since then, investigators have interviewed one woman they suspect to have posted the ad, but she denied any involvement. It's still unclear whether the post was real or a hoax. According to investigators, Susan Roscillo and Robert Kellogg trysted around 8:45 PM Thursday in front of the Capitol Theater in downtown Clearwater. They were both subsequently arrested on a felony charge of lewd and lascivious exhibition for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct in the presence of the minor. The victim, Clearwater police say, saw Roscillo “on her back with her legs up in the air and no pants on.” The septuagenarian was “actively masturbating Kellogg’s penis with her hand,” according to an arrest affidavit. (AP) -- What began as a dispute over making a sandwich culminated a day later in gunfire and criminal charges against a Florida fast-food employee. According to Palm Beach County sheriff's investigators, Destin Garcia, 18, and a co-worker were at the Subway inside the Palm Springs, Florida, Walmart on Black Friday. Because of the crush, the Subway employees were allowed to make themselves a free sandwich -- but the co-worker made a wrap, which was not allowed. That angered Garcia, investigators say, and he told the co-worker she would have to pay the difference between the cost of the sandwich and the wrap -- about a dollar. She walked away. Authorities say Garcia drove to the co-worker's home the next morning, where the co-worker's mom told him to leave. Investigators say Garcia pushed the woman, causing her husband to come outside. The couple told investigators that Garcia pulled a handgun, told them "Do you think it's a game?" and fired two shots near the woman's feet, causing fragments of the blacktop to strike her. The couple ran away and Garcia fled. He was arrested Sunday on aggravated assault charges and remained jailed Tuesday with bail set at $100,000. (AP) — The rumors swirled for decades: A dark history long lay buried under the grassy knolls and manicured lawns of a country club in Florida’s capital city. Over the years, neat rows of rectangular depressions along the 7th fairway deepened in the grass, outlining what would be confirmed this month as sunken graves of the slaves who lived and died on a plantation that once sprawled with cotton near the Florida Capitol. The discovery of 40 graves — with perhaps dozens more yet to be found — has spawned discussion about how to honor those who lie in rest at the golf course. And it has brought renewed attention to the many thousands of unmarked and forgotten slave cemeteries across the Deep South that forever could be lost to development or indifference. “When I stand here on a cemetery for slaves, it makes me thoughtful and pensive,” said Delaitre Hollinger, the immediate past president of the Tallahassee branch of the NAACP. His ancestors worked the fields of Leon County as slaves. “They deserve much better than this,” said Hollinger, 26, who is leading a push to memorialize the rediscovered burial ground. “And they deserved much better than what occurred in that era.” Wooden markers that had identified the graves have long since decayed.
