@nickeatman: Just talked to Garrett... he said its 50-50. Bryant going to see hand specialist now. My gut tells me he won't be on IR

I guess like RG3 yesterday, it's a wait and see game.

He's done. Everything in Dallas is escalated by soft players.

People like Fletcher can play with broken everything. We break toes, fingers, eyelashes and are put on the I.R.

Yeah, but if he's out for the rest of the year it's not going to be because he's unwilling to play through the pain. If it was just a question of taping up his pinky I don't think there would be any issue.

Yeah, if it's a matter of fixing it now or causing permanent damage it shouldn't be a debate. The guy has shown the potential to be *elite* if he can keep it all together.

Not to belittle losing depth, but that list can be whittled down to relevant players:

42...Barry Church, Toledo, 6'2", 220, 24, 3rd season, UDFA

50...Sean Lee, Penn State, 6'2", 245, 26, 3rd season, 2nd round 2010 (This was a HUGE loss)

54...Bruce Carter, North Carolina, 6'3", 233, 24, 2nd season, 2nd round 2011 (big loss)

67...Phil Costa, Maryland, 6'3" 314, 25, 3rd season, UDFA (oline is always important)

32...Orlando Scandrick, Boise State, 5'10", 191, 25, 5th season, 5th round 2008 (one area the Cowboys have depth)

And it goes without saying having a player, even a PS player, die during the season is a horrific tragedy.

I heard on the radio today that they are letting Dez make the choice to play or not. Just seems strange to me, seems like a doc should be making that call.

Seriously. To boot, Dez doesn't exactly have a sterling record when it comes to decision making. :ols:

By leaving it up to Dez, the Cowboys are putting him in a situation where he only have one option and that is to play. If he selects season ending surgery, he'd come off as being soft. What the Cowboys/Jerry Jones is really saying is "if he's a gamer, he'll play through this."

Dez Bryant: 'Have to break my leg to keep me out'

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000109674/article/dez-bryant-have-to-break-my-leg-to-keep-me-out

Dez Bryant doesn't sound like a player who will let a broken finger end his season with the Dallas Cowboys.

"It would take more than this to take me out," Bryant said via Scout.com. "No way. They'd have to break my leg to keep me out."

Tony Romo sits to pee

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Bryant wants to play through the injury, and his comments certainly seem to back that up.

Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Bryant's playing status will be up to him. The Cowboys owner said Bryant risks permanent stiffness in the finger if he puts off surgery until after the season.

"Dez will be the ultimate decision-maker as to whether or not he wants to continue to try to play with a lot of protection or whether he should have surgery," Jones said during his weekly radio show. "The reason for the surgery is because you could have life-lasting stiffness there."

Didn't think of it that way. I think you're probably right. I think it's kind of selfish of Jerry to put these last 3 games above Dez having stiffness in his hand for the rest of his life. Let's be real, they are not making the playoffs.

I highly doubt that the doctors are going to let Dez play, if it's going to hurt his future.

He won't be cleared to play. Simple as that. Right now, it seems he WILL play.

Yeah agree with DM72 here 100%. It's like when JJ try to talk Ratliff about coming back early from his injury.

One thing that is VERY clear... JJ isn't looking out for the playes' best interest... That's for sure...

Cowboys are giving Dez no choice to play with the injury...

You believe a doctor should have a final decision on whether a player could `risk` life-long ``STIFFNESS``in his finger? First of all, it`s ALWAYS at the discretion of the patient. Doctors don`t have a final call on anything, ever. They may suggest/recommend a course of treatment... but they cannot force you to do anything.

Realistically, the final call is made by the coaches. It doesn`t matter if Bryant wants to play if the coaches believe he`s a liability in any way. He`ll play if the coaches believe he can contribute.
