Dukes and Skins
Good move if not a starter will be very good quality depth for us
moondog
Good move by the front office. Montgomery was very solid for us in the the middle last year. Definitely not a very good guard but he can play at the Center position. If he doesn't end up being a starter he is excellent depth for us. RWJ
Good re-signing. Hopefully for depth. I still want us to sign Chris Myers from Houston, though.
Rufus T Firefly
(Mr Burns voice) Excellent. I was hoping we'd start to see some of our own re-signed.
jivelikenice
Hoping as depth as well....I'd be a little disappointed if we signed him to be the starter unless we're now going to focus on a guard in FA.
BeefJerky
Good job FO. Can either start at center, or be quality depth along the interior line. Keep up the good work.
Harwich Hog
These are the kind of guys you want to fill your roster with. Versatile, serviceable, dependable guys. Not going to make pro bowls necessarily but still have good impact. I wouldn't have a problem with him starting again next year.
terpskins10
I have a hard time believing he signed a 4 year deal prior to testing FA if there wasn't at least a very high chance he'd return as the starter. Fine by me because I think he played well, but I wouldn't expect us to bring in another starter at center now.

And it's not like he was likely going to be in heavy demand. A guy like that could easily decide to "test the market", not find a deal up to what his original team offered, and then not find that offer on the table anymore. I never really saw C as a big need. I would love to get a mid round guy like Blake, Jones or Brewster to compete with him and give us some nice depth.

TSO
Is this what our insiders were talking about when they mentioned that Shanahan and Allen wanted to make an example soon with a contract that would reward a high character guy?
SkinsHokieFan
Good move. Local guy from Centerville High School and also played at Virginia Tech. Will be a good "vet" to have in the next few years as I believe he is now

I think they were referring to the PD93 deal.

Then you have Will/Kory as very good guard/center depth and Maurice Hurt in that mix as well. Willie Smith can be a good swing tackle
SemperFISkins
Hrmm...kinda throws cold water on my "Jeff Saturday/Manning tag team to Washington" dream. That is unless he is a back up.

Just that I wouldn't do it, and I really don't see it as an 'obvious' move.

Oldskool
Nice signing. Hopefully we can get Chris Myers from the Texans in free agency and Monty can be part of the teams long term O-line depth. Also take note that, according to Pro Football Focus' metrics for pass blocking, Montgomery was average. Hurt was at the bottom in the league. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/02/21/2011-pass-blocking-efficiency-guards-and-centers/

For a guy who was drafted as a project, we should be encouraged by Hurt's season overall.

And there's the whole thing about the player wanting to up-root, leave one team and place and transition to another. Mind you Houston went to the playoffs.
