MissU28
I was reading through my old "poinsettia" thread that I assume got ghost-bumped, and it made me think of another word that I have had pronunciation arguments about with others. A few weeks ago, my friend said the word and pronounced it "on-rey"... I was like, huh???? What word is that? We asked another of our friends how SHE pronounces it, and she said "on-rey" as well. Now, I don't normally say this word, but I always thought it was pronounced "or-nery", mainly because of this clip: VF5PyeMG8Lo A search online tells us you can pronounce it either way, but I hate "on-rey!" Am I dumb for getting my pronunciation for this word from The Waterboy? Well, how do YOU pronounce it?

MissU28
Maybe it's a California thing to pronounce it "on-rey". Though I could swear I heard someone else say that word recently, and he pronounced it "on-rey" as well- and I was disappointed.
Forehead
I pronounce it Orn-er-e. The only person I ever heard pronounce it on-rey was my grandfather, who was a rancher in New Mexico most of his life, and used it to describe cattle that were giving him ****. Conn
Why would anyone even pronounce it "on-rey"? There's an extra "r" in there that you're skipping if you do that...no reason for it to be silent. Weird.

HailGreen28
Jeez don't go all nuke-u-ler on us...Nuclear = "nuke-lee-er". Simple. Now how about this (courtesy of Gallagher, of the sledge-o-matic fame)? How do you say ONE? Where's the "w" in ONE? It isn't there. And then you look at TWO, and there's a "w" you don't even need! English, ugh.

renaissance
I've always pronounced it on-ree. I first heard the word from my sis-in-law who is from New Orleans so I don't know if that makes a difference.
