Brooks is going to have a lot of options for his rotations.  One thing I was thinking of was the benefit of bringing Otto off the bench and starting Oubre.  The one thing I worry about with Oubre (on the 2nd unit) will be his tendency to jack up shots.  That might not be the best thing for the guys on that 2nd unit.  However, if he's a starter, I don't think he would necessarily feel the need to look for his shot all the time and might even pick his spots a bit better.  Otto, for all his criticisms, is a guy who can mesh with any unit due to his unselfish nature.  That's not a knock on him or Oubre, but style wise, these guys couldn't be more different.

McGee is an uberathletic freak who looks and acts like a moron (repeatedly). But make no mistake, we would be a far better team with an athletic above the rim 7 footers who happens to be a simpleton than a medley that consists of a defensive specialist, an undersized mid range shooter, and a pick and roll specialist who won't dunk or play defense anymore. Javale should have a good year being surrounded by all stars.

We had a shot at both whiteside and Howard, two of the top above the rim 5's on the market and chose to stand pat.

Gortat and Mahinmi are way better than JaVale.  Nicholson is probably better than him.  JaVale proved he was a 10-15 MPG back up after we traded him.  He had no offensive skill and he wasn't a particularly good defender.  Just a good shotblocker.  If he makes the Warriors its a sign of desperation at the C position on their part, and I still doubt he'd actually play.

There is no if.  It's being reported that he has made the final roster.  I also think you're vastly under rating the value of "just a good shot blocker" to a team relying on Pachulia and Varejao as their center rotation.  As you've said, he's good for a hand full of minutes a night at best and in GS they don't even need that much from him.

Besides, the NBA is better with JaVale in it.  I hope he does see the floor every time I sit down and watch the warriors play.  Highlight or lowlight, he's fun to watch.

I feel like Steve severely underestimated JaVale. I'm not saying he's great, but he was serviceable here.  He got up to being a decent 10 ppg and 7 rbs per game.  Not too bad.  Good shot blocker also.  Yes, he turned the ball over a lot and made some mental mistakes, but he wasn't that bad.

People want to blame the struggles of wall's early career on the likes of McGee, Young, and Ves. It's classic EG scapegoating. That combined with the shaqtin antics has left a permanently bad taste in the mouth. I liked Nene, and would have rather kept him than Marcin, but that's another story. Anyways, I fully blame the lack of development of two of them on our FO and their insistence on allowing career losers like Flip (RIP) and Randy run and control the development of the players. The reality is that Wall is a speed demon with unmatched vision and passing ability. Clearly, having a 5 on the team that can sky for oops would be better than a guy who goes for lay ups. It's not that hard.

Does Tristan Thompson have an offensive game? How about Dwight Howard? What about whiteside? Hell, what about deandre Jordan or Brow? In the modern NBA you don't need your 5 to have an offensive game. I mean look at plumlee out in Portland. He needs to be able to: rebound, defend the paint, defend the pick and roll, catch oops, and have soft hands. I hated Ves, but he could at least do two of those. McGee could do three of them. Marcin has soft hands, good footwork, and some vet savvy by way of illegal back screens. But above the rim play? P&R defense? Interior defense? Top tier rebounding?

I guarantee McGee has a great year and ends up with a ring by the end of the season.

He'll end up with a ring because he's playing on the most stacked team in NBA history but he'll be their 15th man and never see the floor in the playoffs.  He might play 5 or 6 minutes a game for them this season.

JaVale was not good.  Marcin is a hell of a lot better player than JaVale in every meaningful way.  Better PnR finisher.  Better post game.  Better shooter.  Better passer.  Better at running the floor.  Better defender.  Better rebounder.  JaVale had no skill.  No hands.  Oblivious defender.  Soft rebounder.  Unprofessional clown in the locker room.  Wall couldn't stand playing with him and dumping him for Nene was the biggest factor in turning the team around from being a laughingstock.  He is a marginal player who has barely clung to a spot in an NBA rotation ever since we traded him.  The only reason he's still getting work is because he's 7' tall.

My God I can't believe we're even having this argument now.

So, are the Wiz (in you guys opinion) going to be any good this year? Playoff team? Seed?  Im out of market and really only watch when they play the Heat or the rare National Tv game.. Seems the defense slipped last year?

if they stay healthy, they top out where they've been before: a middle seed playoff team with a chance to win in round 1

Whatever happens, we can rest assured that Grunfeld will be back to see us through the next phases.

Well, first McGee had serious injuries the past 4 or so years that prevented him from seeing the court. But I only brought him up regarding his potential years ago when he was here, and how a guy with that type of skill set is better suited for the modern nba and our team. Quick question: is Marcin / Mahinmi better than having Thompson, Howard, whiteside, Jordan, Brow, porzingis, or even plumlee? I would have to argue that it isn't, and we had an opportunity at at least 2 of them this past offseason, but chose not to over signing Mahinmi/Smith.

Depends on injuries to injury prone players. If wall/beal stay healthy all year, we are good and make playoffs. If either one gets injured, it's the same old song.

Wall and Beal combined for 34 points and 20 assists in those two quarters they played.  They just eviscerated Lowry and DeRozan.

I'm buying in.  50+ wins and the three seed.  ECF loss to the Cavs.

Wall and Beal make the AS game and Wall gets second team All NBA.  Beal gets votes for MIP.
