SC_RedskinsFan
That's a womens activity, right? If you are scared to try it just say it, you dont have to make fun of it because you fear it!
Koolblue13
http://vimeo.com/backtoawake/whywebreathe This is a fantastic video about why we do yoga. If anybody is on the fence about it or just curious. It's a little fruity in the beginning for most of you people, but well worth the hour to watch it. For those of you saying yoga is only for women, it makes your body work much better, puts you more in tune with your body, gives you a lot more endurance and the ability to read a body better as well as having more control over it, so while it's not exclusively for anybody, it does benefit women in a number of ways. Elessar78
I heard a guy making fun of pilates and yoga a few weeks ago on the radio. The basic point was it's stretching. Simply stretching. Instructor at core class incorporates pilates movements. They're not easy. I do the "power" stuff, like squats, deadlifts, bench, pullups, dips, etc but I've found the classes challenging because they work your body differently. They focus more on slow movements and holds rather than explosive movements. I don't really believe in stretching. I do dynamic stretches after warmed up but I've read stuff where static stretching reduces explosiveness in sports performance. I'd be open to anyone who can verify or debunk this. Psychologically, I could probably use the calm and focus that yoga provides.
Bang
I'd like to try it.. i have NEVER been very flexible. Even the most basic of poses will be a challenge ~Bang
PleaseBlitz
I do it a lot. I started after I was in a car crash and ****ed up my back. Car crash thread here: http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?153718-Hit-amp-Run-advice. I have 2 herniated disks in my back. Keeping my core strong and my hamstrings flexible essentially keeps me from being crippled. You can find a free 1 hour routing every week here: http://yogatoday.com/videos/this_weeks_free_video

elkabong82
So for a complete newbie who's wound as tight as a guitar string, is this something to try?~Bang There are a bunch of good beginner videos on youtube. Take it easy starting out, don't overdo it or try to stretch as far as the people in the videos go. You'll eventually get there. Just like PB I have a herniated disc, and stretches and yoga along with PT exercises fixed me up. Yoga I do 3 times a week, stretching I do every day. Hersh
So for a complete newbie who's wound as tight as a guitar string, is this something to try?~Bang Yes, but go to a class to try instead of on a video since every yoga place I've been to offers a free first class. They will be able to recommend the best starting class for you. Plus, the yoga studio will have mats, blocks and straps, all of which you'll need along with the required motivation of beautiful women doing yoga. As someone who has awful flexibility as well, it's been very helpful to me and it definitely helps old injuries feel better.

Koolblue13
Yoga is great to get into even as a beginner. Find a good beginner class and talk to your teacher about how you feel Bang. Saying you don't want to do yoga because you're not flexible, is like saying you don't want to go to dinner, because you're hungry.
Stadium-Armory
I do. I live in Boulder county after all, so its mandatory. The **** is not easy! And the benefits go beyond stretching. Strength, stamina, balance and some say detoxification. Most importantly, I feel like a million bucks afterwards.
HogNose
I've gone a few times with my wife at the YMCA. They have the gentle yoga and the power yoga. I prefer the gentle yoga because it's much more relaxing, slow paced and the music is more mystical. All I need is a hookah. It's much harder than I thought.....but maybe that's because I'm not very flexible. ---------- Post added March-30th-2013 at 08:33 AM ---------- Yeah, I love being in a room full of soccer moms who are put off by the guy who takes the class in order to check them out. Good times. :pfft: You are correct. I get those strange looks from some of the soccer moms like I'm some dirty pervert. When they know I'm with my wife it lessens the sting. :pfft:
