Capt. Kaos
Lay down my dear brother, lay down and take your rest, Won't you lay your head upon your savior's chest, I love you all, but Jesus loves you the best And we bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight. In the attics of my life, full of cloudy dreams unreal. Full of tastes no tongue can know, and lights no eyes can see. When there was no ear to hear, you sang to me. Take a snip of this then play a little riff, don't be afraid to try Don't need no airplane to get off the ground there's more than one way to fly Have a little taste, Baby, don't hesitate, every hit don`t have to be a song Gonna take you to the cosmos, Baby, and boogie with you all night long See that girl, barefootin' along, Whistlin' and singin', she's a carryin' on. There's laughing in her eyes, dancing in her feet, She's a neon-light diamond and she can live on the street. May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true. May you always do for others and let others do for you. May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung, May you stay forever young. I could do this all day

Lombardi's_kid_brother
The best opening to a song is the combined snare beat and organ note that starts "Like A Rolling Stone." I have listened to that song approximately 256,000 times and I still get a jolt from that. Having said that, the single best opening lyric is: "It's Quarter to Three/There's no one in the place/'Cept you and me." I think it is fact that it is a triplet that makes this song. It makes the underlying rhythm of the song a sad waltz. The words themselves are great. In total, it's just brilliant. From a rock song? Probably: When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside, ya' gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide Oh, Hulkster. America needs you again. Rudechain
Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men, Uncle Sam needs your help again. He's got himself in a terrible jam Way down yonder in Vietnam So put down your books and pick up a gun, We're gonna have a whole lotta fun. And it's one, two, three, What are we fighting for ? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn, Next stop is Vietnam; And it's five, six, seven, Open up the pearly gates, Well there ain't no time to wonder why, Whoopee! we're all gonna die. Rudechain
And one from Sabbath Generals gathered in their masses Just like witches at black masses Evil minds that plot destruction Sorcerers of death's construction In the fields the bodies burning As the war machine keeps turning Death and hatred to mankind Poisoning their brainwashed minds Oh lord yeah! Ellis
I'm such a huge fan-boy of Jane's Addiction. Back in the 80's and 90's, Perry Farrell's lyrics were outstanding. A few I still love that got the songs going... Mountain Song -Coming down the mountain! -One of many children -Everybody has their own opinions! -Everybody has their own opinions! -Holding it back, it hurts so bad -I'm jumpin out of my flesh and I say Aaaaaaah!! -"Cash in!!" Summertime Rolls -Fell into a sea of grass -And disappeared among the shady blades -The children all ran over me -Screaming, "Tag... you are the one." No One's Leaving -Blacks call each other a brother and a sis -Count me in because I've been missed -I've seen color changed by a kiss -Just ask my brother... and my sister

Dylan knew how to start a song. Someone's got it in for me/They're planting stories in the press With your mercury mouth in the missionary times They're selling postcards of the hanging They're painting the passports brown The beauty parlor is filled with sailors The circus is in town Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son” Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
Thinking Skins
dag, this thread really took off. I figured it'd get 10 responses or so. Anyway, here's Lauryn Hill's contribution I wrote these words for everyone Who struggles in their youth Who won't accept deception Instead of what is truth It seems we lose the game, Before we even start to play Who made these rules? We're so confused Easily led astray Let me tell ya that Everything is everything Everything is everything After winter, must come spring Everything is everything
