Cat Rides Vacuum, Smacks Around Dog

Midnight Judges

Do you live in an apartment building? That's the only real reason I can think of that someone would not let their cat out.

I know many cat owners (like my sister) think that their cats would never come back if they let them out, but it's simply not true. Cats are very territorial and stay very close to their house (within one block, actually) unless looking for or chasing sex. Even in that event, they return home with no problem.

Most house cats live as prisoners to over-protective owners though, which I think is very sad. :(

I take him out every day when I supervise him.

I have coyotes in the hills near my house. The cat is like a kid to me. No way I would put him in that situation where he's at risk.

Average life expectancy of an indoor cat is 14 years. For an outdoor cat it is 4.5 years.

When I first moved in to this condo, there were a few outside cats here. One used to say good morning to me every morning as I went to my truck to go to work. Coyotes behind where I live,(complex borders the Hi Ute Ranch and there's a lot of open space there),took care of them pretty quick. Especially once the female had her big litter of them. I heard the last cat get nailed one night. Pretty horrific sounding actually.

Wow. My parents live on the edge of a large forest/park. Their cats are all mainly outdoor cats and they all have historically lived to be over 15. The last one to die made it to 22. I have never lived in coyote territory and can certainly imagine this would be a great danger to cats though.

I have always chosen quality of life over longevity for my cats but then I don't live in an area were there are such fierce predators. Foxes are about the most dangerous but cats seem to be big enough to defend themselves.

both cats and dogs are like boats or swimming pools.... they suck to own but it is nice to have a friend that has one. I am perfectly happy to occasionally play wiht them if ohter people are reponsible for cleaning up their nasty ass fur all over the place, and carting around their fecal delight (and take that responsibility seriously!)

I grew up with both cats and dogs, and always assumed some day i would get around to convincing my wife that we should have one---- she never had pets as a kid, and we BOTH understood that i was "the pet guy" in our relationship... until... one day out of the blue my wife dropped:

"you know, perhaps a cat or dog would be nice now that the girls are a little older..."

really, TOTALLY out of the blue on sunday morning while we were both sipping coffee and reading the paper. My reaction::: my eyes glazed over as 30 years of images shot before my eyes: me waking up with cat hair on my pillow and in my mouth/cleaning up dog barf in the hallway/paying $1200 for an obstructed bowel/inserting my finger into an animal's rectum to apply ointment to continue bowel treatment/etc etc etc... it was straight out of a movie, images flooding my brain like in clockwork orange, faster and fasrter and faster.... and in about 5 seconds i realized THERE IS NO WAY I WANT A PET. i NEVER wanted a pet. why would ANYONE??? and our roles immediately flipped.

both dogs and cats suck.

I keep a litter box but my cat rarely uses it. He goes outside and get this- I've never seen a pile of cat poop on a lawn. Ever. They are ninja poopers in nature.

It's because they eat their poo, mmmmmmmmmmmm:pooh::munchout::mmm:

The Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to shock them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I even decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. ****s!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and Snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously Retarded.

The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the Guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an Elevated Cell, so he is safe....

...For now....
