The Redskins need several things to make the playoffs next year. The most obvious things would be QB and offensive line. Well here is an extensive list of next year's free agents. Who should the Skins get, who should they avoid, are any of these guys the missing pieces the Redskins need? If I missed anything let me know.

(I did a Google site specific search and didn't see anything just like this ... hopefully I didn't miss anything.)

And people keep saying the Redskins will get rid of Campbell at the end of the season. Ok who's gonna take his place off of that list?? What QB in college will be able to come in and start immediately?? This is why I say the Redskins will resign Campbell and might still draft a QB.Kinda like how the Charges did with Brees and Rivers consequently making a decision down the road after we've evaluated them.

We must sign at least one free agent for our o-line. We cant build our entire offensive line through the draft ther are just to many holes to fill and to many other needs we have on the team.. Jared Gaither is worth a serious look. He would fit in nicely at Tackle for us.

I'd actually like us to take a flyer on Troy Smith if they don't put a high tender on him (which they might). Obviously I wouldn't want to hand him the starting job, but if we signed a veteran FA to compete with him while we rebuild the OL, it might be more beneficial than spending a lot of money on a first round QB who might get manhandled behind the offensive line we have now. I like what I've seen out of Troy in preseason and some regular season snaps and I think he might just have enough pro seasoning to be an effective QB.

If he doesn't work out, go QB next year in round 1, with a much better OL. I think this might be a better route to take. Thoughts?

Because Troy Smith is actually athletic. Jason Campbell cant throw behind this line and his pocket presence sucks. His escapability is pretty bad too. At least with troy we get a guy who can pass well on the run and run really well. Draft Olineman and in FA and also get a RB and troy would be servicable. Good defense + rungame + mobile qb is better then what we have now.

Campbell is the better passer but he is only solid with a great line. The reason you don't resign Campbell is simply his history. I also have a feeling he will want to go somewhere during FA.

Why take a flyer on Troy Smith .. A guy who has shown he is if anything much much worse than Jason Campbell rather than taking a flyer and rsigning ... oooh i dunno Jason Campbell.... the FA market is going to a lot worse than this list suggests ...

You really think Campbell wants to come back here? If he gets an offer from us and the same offer from another team, you don't think he's going to split? You don't think it will be a huge hit to his pride to have to come back here and either a) sit on the bench and watch a rookie start or B) start for a year while the rookie takes half of the 1st team snaps in practice? You really think Campbell is going to be down with that? Not a chance.

Anyway, some good RB's out there. Sproles would be nice. But lets not get it twisted, he's not an every down back. I think I'd rather have Leon Washington than Sproles anyway. Somewhat similar and Washington can carry the load better than Sproles can. I definitely wouldn't mind Pierre Thomas. Only 24. Nice. Good call on McClain too. He'd be a nice replacement for Sellers. And he can carry the rock.

Real good at all the other positions too. I know we don't need one but TE is absolutely stacked. OL and WR too. Real nice. The only one that sucks is QB. But I think that's pretty normal. If you have a good QB, there's no way you let him hit free agency.

I'd look to sign OL from this FA list, and maybe draft a few as well.

Then I'd try to swing a deal with San Diego for Volek or Whitehurst, or better yet with Detroit for Stanton, or maybe Tampa for Josh Johnson.

It's way too early to tell whether we could draft an elite QB this season say with a top 6 pick -- but even so, I think with any kind of creativity we could instead be able obtain a few top-tier O-linemen, for Brennan and whatever QB we decide to bring in. We've got at least a 2-year rebuilding project with our offense.

Mainly we do need a decent-passing QB to assess our 2008-2009 WRss, develop their skills, and determine whether they are really worth keeping. Campbell's not the right QB to allow us to assess them and Collins probably won't be here next year.

So, if we failed to trade for one of the QBs, then I'd look at Clemens as another option. Ramsey would never come back here.

As for RB/FB, I agree those are two other areas we need to look at -- but a lot depends on what kind of system we have here next year. Frankly, signing any RB with over 4 years experience is essentially investing in the downside of their career. So, maybe Leon Washington from this group ... and that's a strong maybe.

I like the idea OP, but we'd be best served looking at this thread after the season as many of the name we'd like will be re-signed by their respective teams. Some great options at RB for instance, but I doubt any of them hit FA.

I guess the short answer as of now is any of the linemen we could pick up that are big and young, and Pennington maybe wouldn't be a bad pick-up for a year or two to throw in the QB mix for experience, and help bring Bradford along. :fingersx:.

Hail.
