Dan T.
[Re: The name "Wendy" originating from Peter Pan.] I'm pretty sure this one is a myth too, I've seen a bio on Dave Thomas on the Food channel and they showed pictures of his first daughter Wendy. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the others are myths too :2cents: I didn't know if that one's true, but Peter Pan predates Dave Thomas' daughter by many years. The character first appeared in 1902, and the most familar Peter Pan story, featuring Wendy, was published in 1911. EDIT: I see others jumped all over that one before me. Otherwise, I agree that at least some of these might be myths. The "rule of thumb" one has been disputed often. There are other explanations for that phrase besides the one given.

DGreenistheBest
According to wikipedia, peter pan was written around 1902http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Pan This myth could still be viable, unless Dave Thomas is a lot older than I thought. Dave Thomas wasn't born until 1932. Therefore, Barrie's Wendy precedes Thomas's Wendy by more than 30 years. Wendy was born in 61, so that's almost 60 years, but of course you don't know how long Thomas was planning on naming her that. Her actual name is Melinda, so its possible the Wendy nickname didn't arise until well after her birth.

#98QBKiller
22. Leonardo Da Vinci invented scissors. From wikipedia: It is most likely that scissors were invented in 1500 BC in ancient Egypt.[1] These were likely shears with the joint at the far end.[2] Cross-bladed scissors were invented by Romans around AD 100. An immense stride in perfecting scissors was taken in 1761 when Robert Hinchliffe produced the first pair of modern-day scissors made of hardened and polished cast steel. He lived in Cheney Square, London and was reputed to be the first person who put out a signboard proclaiming himself "fine scissor manufacturer".[3] In a part of Sweden (now in Finland) an ironworks was started 1649 in the hamlet "Fiskars" between Helsinki and Turku. In 1830 a new owner started the first cutlery works in Finland, making among others scissors with the trade mark Fiskars. Fiskars Corporation introduced new methods in the manufacturing of scissors in 1967.[4]

I knew about most of those listed since we have a few of those fun/odd fact books laying around the house, but I had never heard about the champagne and raisins. Damn you:doh:....now I need to try this. I'm pretty sure this one is a myth too, I've seen a bio on Dave Thomas on the Food channel and they showed pictures of his first daughter Wendy.
