If his chinstrap had held fast I don't think there is any way he would have made it out of there without a major neck injury. I hope that Browns player was ejected from the game immediately. That facemask looks pretty intentional to me. Besides, the photographer said he "violently twisted his helmet". That should be an ejection, a fine, and a possible suspension.
