What most folks don't realize is that, originally, after the chicken crossed the road, he turned right around and crossed it again. Prompting a question between two strangers who had witnessed the entire thing. "Why'd that chicken doublecross the road?" But just like Neil Armstrong's famous quote, the "double" somehow got lost in translation. Hence the now famous, and incorrect, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" question.
